The Clinton Thread II

His speech was political bluster and I could point to his 'victory' speech in Iowa to counter that. Time will tell, but I think Romney is a deceptively weak candidate. He has a lot of baggage of being a hypocrite and an easily labeled Gordon Gekko type (which can be bad post-2008), but most of all, he has the personality and charisma of a wet noodle.

You bring up his victory speech? I can play his singing "America the Beautiful" last night. If Obama released an ad of that and then showed his ten seconds of "Let's Stay Together," he'd crush him with the under-40 vote. ;) :oldrazz:

The sad part is, there is probably some truth to that last part.

Problem with that is, under 40 vote isn't going to show up this time. It's no longer trendy to be an Obama-maniac so they'll just stay home like they always do.

Most would disagree with you on that.

Depends on which Mitt Romney we get. If we get the Mitt Romney that we saw in South Carolina, I certainly agree with you. But if we get the Mitt Romney that we saw in Florida, I think he can be a very formidable opponent.

It's going to be very hard to label Romney as a Gekko-esque character when he has given much of his wealth towards charity, he doesn't hoard all of his wealth for himself, and when he was a part of Bain, he didn't come in to ruin those companies to make a profit the way Gekko did in Wall Street.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. Like really, really bad. Where the hell is Simon Cowell when we need him :csad:

The sad part is, there is probably some truth to that last part.
There is truth to it. Truman didn't win because of the Do Nothing Congress, he won because of Dewey completely failing to present himself as an alternative to Truman. Everything Dewey didn't do, Romney is doing.

The only thing that can save Obama now is if the economy improves enough in the voters eyes. If the economy improves, Obama has a chance. If it doesn't improve enough, with Mitt Romney providing an alternative to Obama, the voters will go to him.

I'm telling you an ad that begins with this:

And ends with this:

It's game over man. Game over. :oldrazz: :awesome:

Seriously, we'll see how strong Romney looks after he and Gingrich spend the entire month of March blooding each other. I doubt Gingrich will last to August, but he'll make it some time into March, at least. And every day will bring negative ads and attacks against Romney for the country to watch.

Mitt Romney is going to dominate February and continue to weaken Gingrich.

The only thing that is saving Gingrich right now is a lone Vegas casino magnate giving him $5 million checks. And without producing results, just like Jon Huntsman, Sr. felt with his son, the Adelsons are likely going to get tire of writing check after check after check.

:funny: Romney is a terrible singer, but honestly....I can relate. He reminds me of myself during karaoke.

Wow Excel. Only the most astute political mind of our generation could make sure a prediction. I am in awe of your brilliance.

:o Good. I know its common speculation, lets hear some opinions.

Well let's see, who do the Democrats have for 2016?

The Republican field is pretty full.

I don't think this sudden burst of Bill is a coincidence. Sure, I think he wants Obama to win. But

-Bill out there pumping up his popularity
-Hillary very popular, reserved role
-Hillary leaving office soon

Maybe I am looking into it too much, but I think the Clintons are getting ready for 2016....Thoughts?

No doubt. People been speculating this for a long time. Eh, I still would rather get a competent independent in the oval office for once though.

I'm not sure anybody is even going to want that job in 2016.

Obama Administration Throwing Hillary Clinton Under the Bus: SecState to Testify on Benghazi

Joke title aside, make no mistake, this is absolutely a case of the administration throwing the outgoing Secretary of State under the bus and scapegoating her in order to protect the heir apparent, Susan Rice, who has yet to testify, despite the fact that she has more to say on the matter and more answer for than anyone (aside from the President, of course).

I give Clinton a lot of credit. She is really taking one for the team and could really be hurting any 2016 chances if this turns ugly for her or if she becomes the administration's scapegoat.

She said in her interview with Barbara Walters that she is not looking at running in 2016, doesn't mean she can't change her mind....but as of right now, she isn't running. I wish she would change her mind....

Obama said the same thing in '05. I'd be shocked if Clinton does not run. Though more and more, I think if she does, she will simply become the Democratic version of John McCain.

According to CNN, Susan Rice has withdrawn her name from consideration for Secretary of State.

Interesting. The timing of all of this is at best suspect. Is Hillary refusing to take the fall for Rice and Rice knows it? My interest in her testimony has skyrocketed. Or perhaps Rice is about to be subpoenaed.

I have a feeling Rice is about to be subpoenaed.....and I just don't see her NOT TELLING THE TRUTH...I just don't think she has it in her anymore to cover for anyone, including herself...and that is why she withdrew.

About a few weeks ago, NBC's David Gregory said that if John Kerry was to take Hilary's place, he would get at least 90 yes votes from the Senate.

John Kerry has been on the short list from the start.....but the Dems in the Senate are not very happy about losing him. They are afraid Scott Brown could take his seat....

Doesn't the governor appoint someone to the seat until elections? Or does that vary from state to state? I believe the governor of Massachusetts is Deval Patrick, someone who could run for President in 2016 if Hilary doesn't run.

I know this if from a week ago, but as an update, apparently Clinton didn't show. They said she became ill, and took a tumble, getting a concussion as a result. I didn't recognize the name, but to my understanding an ex vietnam vet (not Kerry), is being put forward a secretary now (and already seeing Rep resistance).

Hillary was admitted into the hospital, I guess today, because she has a blood clot that's the result of her concussion.

I just heard that as well. I hope she gets better soon!
