The Dark Knight The Composite Christopher Nolan Interview Thread

I disliked POTA but Burton managed to make a comeback with Big Fish, which is my favourite film of his. I loved Chocolate Factory and I can't wait to see Sweeney Todd. So what's this to do with Nolan's interview?

I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It's my second favorite Burton film of the past decade(right behind Sweeney). It stands out for me as Burton took his usually dark style and made a very colorful imaginative movie. I like the original more, but think Burton's version is terrific as well. And visually, this would be my favorite film Tim Burton has made. I'd love to see him do another movie in a lighter style. This proved he knows both sides of the fence.

Exactly. I loved CATCF because Burton seemed to deliver against expectations. I mean, the first movie adaptation is already a weird and subtly sinister film; Burton could've easily just amped up these factors and made it a disturbing gothic freakshow. But he turned out something colorful, fun, and actually cuter than the Wilder version.

That is actually not a bad choice - she has the looks and the manic energy that you would need!!!

Aww well... it ain't gonna happen but nice thinking.
Thanks, dude. I don't even know the character's purpose in the comic-books. All that I know is that I've seen a picture of the character and when I was watching Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, I noticed that she look like the character... a lot.

What worrys me in the interview is Nolan being evasive about the closing chapter. It would be awfull if he leaves open for any other shummy****ty to ruin this franchise... again. I hope he gets the need to tell us the story. We deserve it...

He was evasive about a second one too... I don't know that Nolan could up and leave this story arc he's set up.

My Favorite Burton movies have got to be Edward Scissor Hands and Big Fish, I liked Sleepy Hallow too but looking back at Batman89 and BReturns, well I dont know, I hate it when penguin rides that arcade game batmobile, and I dont liek when Batman kills all those people dropping bombs in B89 and Nicholson gets too much praise almost in my eyes hes a cool actor but his Joker was more hey its Jack Nicholson acting crazy more so than hey its the joker, I wouldnt take anything Nolans says to seriously though, he likes surprise and Harley Quinn wont be in it as Joker sidekick thats not to say DR Harley wont be at Arkham though, i mean if it was for spy pictures taken he would say scarecrow isnt in it too BUT HE IS, i mean look at how big begins was batmans origiin explaining every fLIcking thing and puttting a scarecrow origin, introduction to rah's and the league of shadows, and easter eggs too like mr zasz and a joker card, this movie will be more than just joker rising and harvey dent going through a hell of a year and becoming two face, there will be scarecrow being taken down mob wars and more easter eggs, he said hes showing how criminals and wackos deal wiht batman, i think by the 3rd movie it will be freaks vs mob, and batman in there too, and maroni wont die in this one, i heard two face is in a limo with him at the end and he flips a coin on killing him right there but it comes up good heads and he lets him off the hook, ,,,,, maybe thats where the last line will be?, i bet the "half" line is towards like vernon or something first before he gets maroni, nolan will surprise us though so he wants to let the least amount of info out as possible on this one, and he will do 3, i bet bale wouldnt without him, but who knows he could die even,,,

maybe maroni or the reporter who i garantee is nygma says he knows who batman is,,, i hear the plot twist has to do with the reporter so its a thought at least

oops sorry that last bit was in regards to the last line in the movie not liek maroni will know who batman is

Keaton was entertaining and funny but he never came off as this haunted avenger IMO. Of course you can blame the script for that b/c most of the time Keaton had absolutely nothing to work on.

But that doesn't change the fact that there never was any pain in Keaton's eyes whatsoever. And that inner pain is what really drives Bruce.

Here's an interesting analysis on Burton/Keaton's Batman:

Wow, that was a fantastic read. I think I want to go see Burton's films again.

Too much reading. This isn't English 101. :(

We deserve nothing. If Nolan leaves after two films coz he feels like the story is complete, then so be it, the series doesn't need a trilogy.

But...I doubt he or anyone could feel a story is complete with an ending featuring Harvey Dent becoming Two Face within the last open-ended act.

Apparently, in the third act, Harvey becomes Two Face and just begins his bad-guy spree of killing and isn't caught without any resolution to his story at all. If there is any truth to that then there is no way Nolan is finished after TDK.

i wouldnt be suprised if two-face doesnt come in somewhere in the movie.

You won't be surprised. Two Face is in the movie. How much, we don't know. I'm thinking minimal.

What has me happy is that I'm feeling very confident the J-man survives this film. Because Nolan called this movie the rise of the Joker in Gotham and although it could be Two Face, I just had this image in my mind of the last line being Joker laughing hysterically to end the film when Nolan refused to give up who spoke the final line.

The whole movie is founded quite strongly on the basis [of an idea] at the end of “Batman Begins” when Ra’s Al Ghul talks about escalation.

That was Gordon... Wonder why Nolan was thinking of Ras.

Two Face's appearance may be brief, everyone assumes they know how this film will end, in a cliffhanger, if Nolan genuinely take his films one at a time as he says he does and isn't committed to doing a third film yet (and who are we to say otherwise), there mostly likely won't be a cliffhanger.

I don't think there'll be much of a cliffhanger...From what I've heard from Nolan and Eckhart, Two-Face will be fully established, with a full developed backstory and character arc with Dent and a full resolve. The only difference here is like with Scarecrow, sort of, Two-Face is born probably late into the movie and his existence is never dealt with by Batman. That doesn't necessarily classify as a cliffhanger, IMO.

It's similar to the ending of Begins. A cliffhanger is where a resolve to a pivotal part of the main story is not made. The only thing that the end of Begins did was move future and new events into place, but and the same time, tied everything up that really mattered at the time.

I agree. It won't be like Matrix Reloaded or The Two Towers or something like that. There will be a closure but at the same it will be established that Bruce still has work to do and his journey isn't complete. Not a cliffhanger but a peek into the future and things to come.

It's not going to be that simple. Even if the script is all done when WB says yes, it would still have to be looked over, edited, discussed and all other things before filming can begin. Plus, you know, all the casting and set desgin and pre-production.
It's probably more of an outline than anything else.

Despite being in the strike, I'm sure a lot of writers are writing unofficially..
They can write - nobody has hidden cameras in each writer's house to bust them if they're writing. But they can't show anything to the studios, so essentially any new scripts/rewrites are on hold until the strike is over. At least Chris is busy working on TDK's post-production so he won't have to worry about the next script for a while (he's a WGA member too). Jonah was on board to write Interstellar for Steven Spielberg but who knows if he's started or is currently working on it or whatever.

I'm actually hoping that the strike will weaken WB's plans to make a Justice League movie though. :oldrazz: And my Stephen Colbert will be coming back next week, although he and Jon will be doing so without writers so it might be an utter trainwreck. :wow:

If someone created a female villain as twisted as the Joker or as complex as Two-Face, I'd be all for it. But comics are by and large written by men. And men tend to write women as sexy and alluring, not dangerous and threatening. I want a woman that isn't a sex object. Then I will a take her seriously as a villain.
I'm all for a female villain if she's just as smart and formidable as Batman is. No more of this "devious female villain with only her sexy allure to distract the hero" thing.

"Addressed the Harley Quinn rumor,"... Good god, I didn't realize there was a Harley Quinn rumor.
