WELCOME..
TO THE CREATE-A-HERO RPG SEASON II

This informative pamphlet brought to you by:

First, A Few Rules and Guidelines:
  • You can create any superhero or super villain in this New Universe, as long as they: Are NOT deities, gods, or people such as Death. People like Thanos and Silver Surfer and Captain Marvel are okay, though...
Are true to the personality and abilities of the character, such as no Cyclops moving planets with his optic blasts, Dazzler defeating Galactus, or Aunt May as Galatus's new Herald...
  • Do NOT rip off existing heroes in comic universes. Come up with your own creation. If your character is too similar to one in Marvel, DC, or other comic companies, you will be asked to change it or come up with a new character.
  • Do NOT criticize another poster’s character. We are not all Stan Lee or Shakespeare. Constructive criticism is okay as long as it is not offensive. This rule applies even if a poster asks for feedback.
  • Your character should make sense. Wolverine doesn’t dance in the flowers. If you have a meek character, they shouldn’t be smacking other characters around.
  • Communicate with others in your arc. This is key to the fun. It doesn’t matter how many fights you win, it matters if the fights were written well.
  • The Game Masters have the final say in matters of character acceptance. You are welcome to alter the character to make it less powerful or more creative, but arguing with the Game Masters is not allowed. This is a game, let it be fun.
  • You are allowed two characters.
  • This is a working environment, so you can travel to different places using your powers or vehicles. Don't miraculously pop up unless you're a teleporter or such.
  • If you are new to the RPG, your first arc should be your origin arc. There are NO pre-established characters in this RPG - save for those established by players in previous seasons.
  • You can reside in any place in the New Universe. Note, however, that the main city is Lost Haven, Maine. This is where a lot of the action will take place. You can also travel off-planet.
  • Don't do anything RANDOM like chopping off board user's heads or what not, unless your a villain chopping off NPC victims heads, then whatever, go with it, as long as it's not technically RANDOM.
  • Don't be killing people without reason. You know your weaknesses and strengths, what you can do or can't. Dazzler will lose against Thanos one on one, but may be able to use her allies to help her out or she can run away.
  • If you want to take part in this, just fill out an app and your name and character will appear on the roster, pending approval.
  • You can form super villain gangs, superhero teams, alliances, the works.
  • There can be a number of stories going on at once, using different people.
  • Act like your characters; ASSUME their traits and personalities.
  • There are endless places to go and endless things to do: ENDLESS possibilities so get creative.
  • There should be MINIMAL cussing and swearing in posts.
There will be NO By-passing the censors. This is a Hype rule, and NO exceptions will be made for the RPG.
  • No obscene topics!
  • People who disobey these rules, some more major than the others, will get BOOTED by the Game Masters. If a Hype! Mod need boot you; do not bother applying again.

Uniform/costume: Briefly describe or post a picture of what your character's costume looks like

Origin Info/Details:

Hero Type (Select one):
Normal (Non-powered characters)
Brick/Muscle
Elemental (Select: Water, Wind, Earth)
Energy (What kind of energy? Ex. Electricity, Fire)
Psychic
Acrobat
Speedster
Gray Matter (Super-smart characters)
Shape Shifter
Mystic (Spell casters/magic users)
Supernatural (Divine agents, Vampires, werewolves, Cosmic deities)

1. Street Level (Ex. Punisher, Daredevil)
2. City Level (Ex. Spider-Man, Cyclops)
3. World Level (Ex. Flash, Superman)
4. Cosmic (Ex. Silver Surfer, Green Lantern)

NOTE: Having only one or two powers does not automatically make a character a level 2. The levels reflect how powerful the powers themselves are, not only the variety. A level 3 may be more powerful then a level 4. These levels serve to show where your powerful hero operates, as heroes this powerful may be cosmic wonderers or Earth-bound. Also, Game Masters will be wary of approving level 3 or 4 characters. An extremely well-thought out and great sample post will be needed to be approved for a high level character. Your post should be as powerful as your character.

Powers (Be Specific):

Attributes (Select one at each category):

Strength Level: Normal Human, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, or 100 tons. (Characters stronger then 100 tons fall under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters)

Agility: Normal Human, 5X, 10X, 15X, or 20X Human level. (Characters at 20X or higher fall under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters)

Intelligence: Average/Genius/Super-Genius (If another Level 3 or 4 stat is chosen with Super-Genius the character falls under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters)

Fighting Skill: Untrained/Trained/Mastered (If another Level 3 or 4 stat is chosen with Mastered the character falls under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters)

Resources: Minimal/Average/Large/Extreme (If another Level 3 or 4 stat is chosen with Extreme the character falls under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters)

NOTE: Even if all attributes chosen are Normal human when Super-Genius, Mastered, and Extreme are chosen for the final three attributes, this player is a level 3 or 4 character, such as Batman.

Weaknesses (If your stats chosen are deemed powerful enough by a Game Master with no weakness, the character will fall under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters. Even with a weakness, a Game Master may rule it as a Level 3 or 4 character):

Supporting Characters (Does your character have a significant other? A mother? Friend? Who are they, what do they have to do with your character?):

List a few reasons why you've created that character:

"Your first arc should be your origin arc. There are NO pre-established characters in this RPG. "

So does that mean we can't continue on from where we left off in season 1?

I suppose that should be worded better. That's a Season I rule that needs further updating.

alright, I think I gotcha. I'll post my Icon app in a bit

Create a Hero/Villain RPG SEASON II

Screen Name: NiteMare Shape

Character you have created: Scott Morse
Alias: Icon

Speech Color (actually say what you're using, don't go "Like this", or what not):
Blue Arial

Character Alignment: Hero
Identity: Secret to the public

Character Personality(Give information on how your character acts, what he/she believes in, how they handle situations): He is a man who doesn't fully understand himself. He grew up not too far from Lost Haven in Conway New Hampshire. It's a small ski resort town just several hours south of the city. Although he grew up a normal kid with a normal family, he is anything but normal. He has amazing powers that he doesn't fully understand. While he was growing up he hated himself, he was angry at the world for making him a "freak." He wanted nothing to do with his powers, he just wanted a normal life. However, as time went on and he grew older he learned to deal with his powers, and eventually he embraced them. He believes in fighting for what is right. He believes in protecting the weak, and making sure that they are taken care of. Overall, he is a good man with great power, trying to do the right thing.

Origin Info/Details: Scott Morse may seem like a normal guy, but he is anything but. Everything about him is a lie, his parents, his older brother as well as his younger sister. None of it is real. Although they raised him as their son, he isn't. In fact, he isn't even really human. Scott was the result of a secret experiment by an even more secret government agency that mixed alien DNA with that of a human. While he was a baby; he was cared for by a woman named Barbara Hill, who was a member of the top secret government agency known as the SHTTF (Superhuman Threat Task Force). What the objective of this experiment was is unknown. While going about her daily tasks at the project, Dr. Hill learned that the program had been terminated, all evidence was to be destroyed, and the baby known only then as SKT-17 (she affectionately called him "Scott") was to be eliminated. Having recently lost her own child due to the actions of a drunk driver who also claimed the life of Dr. Hill's husband, she could not stand the thought that this child who she began to see as her own, could be killed. She stole the child from the laboratory which created him, and fled to the north. She gave the child to a trusted friend, Jacob Morse and his young bride Elizabeth. Soon after, Dr. Hill was tracked down by agents of the SHTTF and killed. Jacob and Elizabeth took the young baby, and continued calling him Scott as they felt that there would be no need to change his name, seeing as that is what Dr. Hill had called him his whole life.

(Scott knows none of this, as his parents were never told the whole story by Dr. Hill. He was given a disc that holds the details of his origin by Dr. Jenkins, one of the men that worked on the project originally, however Scott has not built up the courage to actually look at it yet. He keeps it in a box under his dresser)

Scott was raised by the Morse's as one of their own children. He always knew that he was different, that he had these abilities, but he never understood why. As his powers developed throughout his childhood, he became increasingly confused and angry. This was a cause for concern for his parents, because they never understood exactly why their son was this way. Eventually he learned to deal with his gifts. At first he used his gifts for selfish reasons, often profiting from using them dishonestly (mostly in athletic bets). However, after an incident which left his brother crippled, he began using his abilities to help people. He went on to Lost Haven University graduating with a dual degree in history and education, and went on to be one of the more popular teachers at Lost Haven's Sherman High School. Unfortunately he found it nearly impossible to balance his teaching job with his duties as the superhero Icon. He ultimately had to choose his career as a hero over his teaching job in order to avoid a public hearing in front of the school board, which would have raised questions that Scott did not want to have to answer. After being forced to resign from his position as a history teacher, Scott begins preparations for the opening of his club, "The Hub," along with his good friend and (as well as DJ) Eric Dean.

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: 4 hours
Agility: 10X Human level.

Resources: Average (though he does keep a small percentage from merchandising just in case)

Weaknesses (If your stats chosen are deemed powerful enough by a Game Master with no weakness, the character will fall under rules of Level 3 and 4 characters. Even with a weakness, a Game Master may rule it as a Level 3 or 4 character): While nearly invulnerable, will succumb to enough punishment. Does get overconfident in his abilities. Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. He's a character that I have created and care for deeply, also, his supporting characters offer an opportunity for a richer RPG experience

2. I think I had a fair amount of success with him in season one, and looking forward to seeing how far I can take him in season 2

3. I believe that I can have a great amount of fun with this particular character

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: I believe that I can bring a good character as well as a bit of experience into this game. I do admit that I am a bit rusty, however that rust has worn off a bit, yet I found myself bored with my last character as he did not really fit into this game as it stands now.

Sample Origin Post (Minimum Four paragraphs containing dialogue):

"Hurry Up, get that money into the bags!" One of the masked assailants screamed to one of the others.

Four masked men had stormed into Centennial Bank demanding that all the money be handed over. Juanita Juarez crouched in a corner, trying not to look at the carnage on the floor. However, she didn't have to look at it, he knew exactly what had happened in the moments after the masked men entered the bank. Two security guards and a customer were all dead, killed in the hail of gunfire that erupted when the masked men made their intentions clear. Trying to avoid detection, she just sat there; huddled in the corner, hoping that this would all end soon.

"This is Captain Price of the Lost Haven Police Department. We don't want anyone to get hurt, just come out and place your weapons on the ground." A voice came from outside. The four masked man became agitated, prodding the tellers to hurry with the money.

The man who seemed to be leading the robbers went over to the large glass door and opened it a crack as if he were to begin negotiating a way out. Instead, he fired several shots at the police cruisers parked in front of the bank. The police returned fire, sending shattered glass all over the inside of the bank.

"Hold your fire d*mn it!" Captain Price ordered, recognizing the danger that the civilians inside the bank were in. He puts the megaphone he is holding to his mouth again.

"Hold your fire, there is no need for anymore bloodshed. We can resolve this peacefully, and without any more casualties." Then another shot rings out, forcing Price to get back behind the squad cars.

Realizing that the situation is getting worse, the lead masked man began looking around the bank looking for a way out of the bank that didn't involve him being in prison or a body bag.

"Jimmy, go around and check the back, maybe we can get out that way."

The thug that the lead masked man was talking to nodded and went out the back, and came back moments later looking alittle panicked.

"That's covered too, three maybe four units out there. We're trapped."

The lead masked man looks around at the hostages and sets his sights on Juanita Juarez, who is still huddled in the corner. He quickly moves over to her and grabs her by the hair, forcing her to her feet. "GET UP!" he screams at her. She lets out a cry as he forces her against the wall.

"Everyone up, NOW!" He screams at the hostages, as the other masked men corral the remaining hostages up against the same wall as Juanita.

"Alright folks, this is real simple. We're getting out of here, and you're all going to make sure that we get out safely. We're all going to walk out together, and your gonna be standing right in front of us as a human shield. If the pigs open fire, you'll be there to make sure that we don't get hit. And if you try to run, make no mistake about it, I will shoot you. Now, are we all clear on that?"

Suddenly confusion takes over as there is an explosion of glass, and what can almost be described as some sort of whirlwind inside the bank. The gunmen and hostages gather their wits and they see a man standing before them. He is dressed in a dark blue body suit with silver bands on the arms and legs, a blue and silver cape, and he has a thin mask that is the same shade of blue as his costume. The man just stands there as the gunmen open fire on him. The gunmen and hostages stand there in amazement as they watch the bullets just bounce off him.

"Oh no, this ain't hapening, this AIN'T happening!" The lead thug shrieks as he continues to fire his weapon until it runs out of bullets. Then the man fires optic blasts at the four masked men's weapons, knocking them from their grips. The man in blue grabs the first masked man and tosses him into a wall, obviously holding back as to not serious injure the man.

"That's enough guys, it's over. Give it up and nobody has to get hurt." He says to the other three men. They think it over for a moment, and then stand down.

Moments later the man leads the hostages and the masked men out of the bank to the police who are waiting down on the street. When he met Captain Price and the other officers they just stood there for a moment looking at him, not knowing what to make of this new player in the city.

"Thanks for the help son." Captain Price felt somewhat embarrassed at the hokiness of what he said, but it was all he was able to muster.

"I'm just glad I was able to help sir." Then in front of the police, and the media that had gathered at the bank, he just flew away.

Create a Hero/Villain RPG SEASON II

Screen Name: byrd man

Character you have created: Matt Byrd

Alias: The Blue Blur

Speech Color: Comic Sans MS, Blue, Bolded

Character Alignment: Hero/Villain Hero

Identity: Secret/Known Known

Character Personality: Confident, like most Jocks, but also got a taste of the real world so he's grounded. He knows what it's like to have the world on the tip of your fingers and blow away in the blink of an eye. He can be a kidder at times, but when the world starts to go to pieces around him, he can be the glue that holds his family together. He's very different than most 19 year olds in the fact that he understands the value of a dollar, coming from a family with a single mother, and doesn't cut corners very often. His experience with celebrity life has changed him. While he still obliges with the autographs, he sometimes wished he hadn't have become public with his identity.

Origin Info/Details: Matt Byrd was the star wide out at Central City High in Chicago, signing a scholarship to play for Florida his whole like was set, until the last game of his high school career. A slant play and one bum knee later, Matt now works at a local machine shop trying to forget about his glory days. Short on cash, Matt volunteers for an experiment conducted by Frytech on regeneration. After a shot of the experimental hormone, Matt's knee not only repaired itself, but his whole body grew muscle mass and adapted to fit and add on his natural speed, enhancing his reflexes and reaction time to superhuman levels. Phillip J. Fry, owner of Frytech, sees this as an opportunity and markets Matt as The Blue Blur, The Midwest's Fastest Crimefighter! Since then, The Blue Blur has become one of the world's biggest heroes, he's fought a video game geek, a giant dinosaur monster with Mantis, teamed up with Survivor in an effort to stop a roving gang of Disco fiends. It's been close to year since he first became a superhero. As his popularity starts to rise, things with him and Jennifer are starting to get serious as their inevitable wedding looms on the horizon. Top that off t.v. execs nosing around the Frytech studios, begging for a reality show starring Blurry. The future for Matt is so bright, he's going to have to wear shades.

Power Level:

3. World Level (Ex. Flash, Superman)

Powers (Be Specific): Superhuman speed, topping out around 2,000 miles per hour, superhuman agility and stamina.

Attributes: Speedster

Strength Level: Normal Human

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: Over 100 MPH

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: 5 hours

Agility: 20X Human level.

Intelligence: Average

Fighting Skill: Untrained

Resources: Large

Weaknesses: While he's fast, Blurry is still squishy. He can be harmed if he's caught.

Supporting Characters: The best damn supporting cast in the CAH, Anita Byrd: a Chicago Police officer. Jennifer Jones: Matt's fiancee. Phillip J. Fry: Owner of Frytech and contributor to The Blue Blur's campaign on crime. Dr. Brown: Resident medical advisor to Blurry and creator of the serum that gave him his powers. Bruce and Johnny: Technicans on the Blue Blur team, two of Blurry's friends, rapid comic geeks.

Three reasons why you have chosen that character:

1. I played him last season. Hell, I came close to winning the Best Hero award for all the RPGs. I got to come back.

2. Well, it's very rare one gets a chance to play a character they created.

3. See 1 and 2, that's really all I got.

Write two complete sentences using proper English grammar explaining what you think you can bring to the RPG: A kinda veteran of the RPG scene. As well as a new hero with boatloads of potential.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As much as I can.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards: Yup, just don't have any.

Fry: Owner of Frytech and contributor to The Blue Blur's campaign on crime. Dr. Brown: Resident medical advisor to Blurry and creator of the serum that gave him his powers.

That was the consensus when I last brought up the issue, so that's what it will be.

I'll include that in the first post of the IC thread - when it goes up.

Create a Hero RPG SEASON II Application

Character you have created: The Citizen
Alias: David McDonald

Speech Color: Red Trebuchet MS for David/Bold Navy Trebuchet for The Citizen

Character Alignment: Hero

Identity:Secret

Character Personality: David McDonald is a real man's man - the All-American guy that every dude wants to hang out with. In college, he was a loyal wingman - when he wasn't taking charge, that is. David grew up in a modest background, and he remains humble to this day. He has a strong Christian belief system, but he's very open-minded and progressive. As a former football captain, David knows how to inspire and lead people. As a former soldier, David knows how to take orders and work in a team. As a politician, he knows how to be diplomatic and fair to all sides of an argument. He's Lost Haven's poster boy, and the general public generally loves him.

Origin Info/Details: One night, at a Lost Haven museum, there was a break-in. David McDonald and his wife, Katherine, were in the museum at the time. Acting completely on instinct, David tackled the robber and wrestled away the stolen goods. The robber escaped into the night, but David had saved the artifacts. One of these artifacts was a mystical amulet that dated back to the Jamestown colony. The museum curator explained that the amulet was said to give magical powers to its wearer. David wasn't one for superstition, so he ignored the story. The next morning, David realized that he had accidentally put the amulet in his jacket pocket. The museum wasn't open yet in the morning, so David had to wait to return it. In the meantime, he decided to test out the myth. Needless to say, he was caught quite off-guard by the results.

Hero Type:Brick/Muscle

Power Level:3. World Level

Powers: Superstrength; Flight; Enhanced Healing; Mystical Aura - Light Manipulation, Empathy, Precognition.

Attributes Strength Level:70 tons.

Speed/Reaction Timing Level: 40 MPH.

Endurance at MAXIMUM Effort: 4 hours.

Agility: 10X Human level.

Intelligence: Average.

Fighting Skill: Trained.

Resources: Large.

Weaknesses: David is constantly in the public eye as a result of his profession, so it is very hard to lead a double life. His loyalty to the innocent can easily be manipulated against him, as he will not settle for unnecessary collateral damage. If, by some chance, he is separated from the amulet, he loses his powers.

Supporting Characters: David married his high school sweetheart, Katherine, and the two have been happily married for some years. David keeps in close contact with his family - especially his young brother, Alan, and his even younger sister, Hailey. David has a very personable secretary named Martha, and a constantly nervous PR consultant named Tom.

List a few reasons why you've created that character: With ElectoFlare gone, Spirit of America goes with him. As such, this RPG needs a patriotic hero - someone to represent the good, the bad, and the ugly about this nation, for better or worse. Furthermore, I wanted to create a character that's much more in the public eye and much better equipped (physically, mentally, and emotionally) than Mantis.

What can you bring to the RPG?: Fresh ideas and the commitment to follow through with them. I will try to bring the same writing quality to The Citizen that I brought to Mantis throughout last Season.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards?:

Sample Post:

"You're not saying..."

"I'm pregnant!" Katherine shouts excitedly while wrapping her arms around me tightly. I'm still in a state of utter shock. I mean, I'm so happy!

"I don't believe it!" I reply joyously before kissing her passionately. "I'm going to be a Dad?" I think back to my father. He was such a great man. I owe so much to Dad for everything he's ever done for me. He'll be positively ecstatic at this news! And I can't even imagine how Mom will take it. She'll love being a grandmother!

"I really do have to go, but I wanted to deliver the good news," Katherine explains as she hops down and adjusts her dress. "I'll see you at home?"

"Can't wait," I respond, my cheeks beginning to hurt from all the smiling.

After my wife leaves, I make my way to the window. The smile is still emblazoned on my face. As I look out at the beautiful city, I see hope dawning. This job can really bring something great. And with my private life going so amazing, I couldn't be a happier guy.

Damn, EBJ. I might bring Dr. Rock over here from Silver Age.

Sample Origin Post (Minimum Four paragraphs containing dialogue):

The light in the small apartment flickered on and off, briefly illuminating the gloom as if it was a silent flash of lightning.

"I must thank you, you know", spoke the man as he dipped his hands in the bowl containing red colored water.

Picking up a small hand towel next to the bowl, the man gently dried his hands.

"I had such a wonderful time."

The man's hands moved gracefully across the tabletop in front of where he stood in the dreary, run-down slum, passing over a series of knives and medical tools...all stained with blood and bits of flesh and hair.

"When I woke this morning, I had thought that today would be filled with nothing but tedium."

"But you certainly proved that wrong, didn't you Leon"
, the man smirked as he placed his tools inside a rolled out bag.

"No, thank you. I appreciate the offer, but I really must be going. I'm a very busy man after all. And I wouldn't want to keep my appointments waiting."

The man rolled up his tools and closed the bag. Putting the strap over his shoulder, the man turned and began to walk away. Stepping over a puddle of blood, the man came to a stop next to a person sitting in a chair.

Leon Carmody, a divorced father of two, worked the nightshift at the nearby hotel as security. He was usually very careful, but he did not notice the stranger following him home that morning.
Though the man was only a dozen meters behind him the whole time, Leon didn't notice him in the least. It was as though he was completely invisible to him, though that was not the case.
The man simply did not want Leon to notice him.
So he put the notion in Leon's mind to pay him no heed at all.

How unfortunate for Leon.

He had been dead for at least an hour now.
Naked and tied to a chair with barbed wire, Leon's wrists and ankles were a bloody and gruesome mess. Nonsensical symbols had been carved into his chest and back, and his eyes had been removed from his skull. His tongue had been sliced down the middle, now looking comically like the tongue of a serpent. And in his mouth rested a coin, a 1976 quarter that looked brand new.

"I had fun today, Leon", smiled the man as he patted Leon on the head as somebody would a dog.
"Don't worry though, we'll catch up later on."

"TTFN"
, chuckled the man as he reached for his dark purple bolero and trench coat, both which were resting on the coat rack, and put them on. Moving to the stereo system on the far wall of the room, the Man turned on the CD player and opened the drive. Reaching into his coat pocket, he pulled out a CD and placed it in the player. Pressing "play" and setting the player to "repeat", the man turned and walked away.

As the music began to play, the man stepped into the shadows of the corner of the room and vanished into the darkness...

It's ok. I'll make it as grotesque and painful as possible.
