Alias: Storybook Jack

Speech Color : I was thinking I nice dark purple.
Like this.

Character Alignment: Hero

Identity: Secret

Character Personality: Jack grew up with his heads in the clouds. He is a dreamer that knew in his heart that anyone could become a hero. Than he grew up, became bitter and disapointed for a long while. He escaped in his book and became very gruff.
Now he has found his hope again and when he is using his powers he has a lot of youthful glee, but he feels the need to hide that to those few close to him.
Than when he plays his persona's he feels the need to play up his characters a bit.

Uniform/costume: Jacks costume changes depending on what story he is pulling from. No matter what the costume he always wears a very classic simple black mask and somewhere the emblem of a quill dipped in ink.

Origin Info/Details: Jack was born with weak legs. They never quite worked right and by the age of seven he spent most of his time in a wheelchair. He escaped his world by reading and writing stories.
By the time he was a teenager his stories were getting noticed. He published his first novel at the age of 19. People loved his stories but Jack could never fully escape his reality.
After his third novel became a bestseller, Jack met a mysterious old man after a book signing. He came right up to Jack and told him he had a gift. He then handed him a gift. A very old key on a ring of ancient metal. Thinking nothing of it he went home to his apartment where he lived alone with his dog, Puck.
A few days later he was looking through his original leather bound copies of his novels. He found strange keys in each binding. Three keys to add to his strange gift. What else could Jack do but try them out....
What he found that not only did the key work on any door, but that the doors opened to the very worlds that Jack had created with his pen. Not only that, when he walked through those doors he could walk.

Hero Type: He is a little bit of everything but I guess
Mystic is the closest fit.

Power Level: City Level

Powers: Jack can create doors between the real world and the world from his books. He can do this with any door that has a key lock, or he can draw a door in a pinch.
As long as the door stays open Jack can pull people from one world into the other.
In the worlds from his books Jack has a certain amount of control. He can create new story elements and change some story elements. He can also change his appearance to fit the setting. He can also give himself new skills. (This does not mean he can make himself a master swordsman just a skilled one.) But once a creature from his worlds crosses over to the real world, he looses that control.
As long as the door stays open Jack can keep what ever persona he had when he went through the door. This includes the ability to walk, any skills the character had and gear he carried with him. Once the door is closed all of that vanishes.
Also as long as the door is open, elements from the story world will start to bleed through. The longer the door is open the more changes will take place.

It still amazed me how many people care about my little stories. I understand why they are important to me, because they contain my dreams and hope. Yet, the reasons they inspire others are lost on me. Its not that I am a stranger to the hold a story can have on your attention, but I never thought what I wrote was any good.
Yet here is a line of people wanting a few words with me and my signature on their copy of my silly little stories. Every time I agree to do one of these things I complain to my agent. I whine about how boring these things are and how they keep me from my writing. Than I get to the table with the stack of books and I forget about my complaints. Especially lately. Now that I know just how powerful a good story can be.
Next in line is some 14 year old kid with messy hair and the faint suggestion of facial hair. He holds onto his copy of Clockwork like its a bible. I smile at him and he just stares. I finally have to remind him that I need to have the book before I can sign it. He nods and hands it over.
With sudden zeal he forgets his nerves and starts talking a mile a minuet. "Did you hear about the guy that saved those kids from the burning library. He was dressed like captain Pellucid Joss from Clockwork..I mean write down to the cog boots and the flintlock that has the trick shots. I also hear there was a guy that looked like Bolo from your first novel...what do you think about that?"
His rant brings a smile to his face. I wonder if all the other costume heroes have this moment. The moment you hear a fan talk about your alter..not knowing they are talking to the man behind the mask. I sign his book and give him a little shrug.
"Not sure. I mean this superhero craze is pretty big right now. I guess I should feel honored one of those guys is so inspired. Not very creative though, but than again its hard to be original when there is a new costumed hero on every corner. Maybe if they make a movie about him, I should ask for royalties huh?" The kid runs than runs off.
I let the bookstore know I need to take a break. I pull my wheelchair back and start heading for the john. I remember the night before, saving those kids. The thrill of being a hero. I am a super hero. Will wonders never cease. I slip my hand into my pocket and feel for the keys. Wonder what trouble I can get into tonight.
