The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

How is that bait? Are you American? Perhaps I’ve grown cynical after our political climate took a dive, but as a Black American, the good justice for all sunshine Supe thing, it can only exist on the screen, no longer real. It hasn’t been.

And to briefly talk about the Snyderbros debate once again. I myself left the BvS boards because it was just ill and ruthless to folks like myself who liked the movie. So no, it wasn’t just that toxic fandom with the issues. Both sides just made it none fun to talk about, which was a bummer.

I'm honestly concerned and quite perturbed over how this film is already going over.

It's pretty clear this is the next new, big target in the 'Manosphere'; where you either side with soy-boy beta male Gunn/Corenswet's 'wimpy' Superman or with Snyder's giga-chad, indestructible Superman (except that time he died).

There's an element of toxic masculine energy that pervades the criticism of this film, already. That I'm starting to see rumblings of even being excited and wanting to see this film or hating it and wanting it to fail is equal to a political statement and shows which side of the aisle you fall on.

And I can also see prominent voices online trying to manufacture a flop.

The amount of vitriol for this film I'm seeing already is unearned and feels forced too; but with an agenda behind it.

"The CGI is soooo bad..."
"Every character is a joke!!!!"
"He's so wimpy!"
"LOL DIAPERMAN BETA"

And the constant 'Laugh' reacts to anything to this film is tiresome.

I feel like soon most of YouTube will be making clickbait videos on how it's going to flop, how 'woke' it is, how Gunn is a tyrant who deserves to fail, etc.

It's a shame - but this film is looking to be a political and masculine line in the sand and the next big thing in grifter territory.

All because Gunn dared to do something different and Snyder can't keep going with his grim Superman.
I think, and I say this as someone who also needs to do this, you should stop following this stuff on social media like that. It is a super, super draining thing to engage with that benefits nobody.

In 24 hours the sneak peek on DCs official YT channel received 282k likes against 9.5k dislikes.

The dislikes make up approximately 3.25% of the votes, which indicates that, even with the cult in full force, the haters make up a VERY small percentage of the audience...not even 3.5%.

96.75% of the viewers who voted hit the like button, so despite how loud and pervasive the complaints seem to be, the vast majority of the audience digs what they're seeing.

Screw the cult. Bring on July 11th!!!

Minecraft is setting the box office on fire. Does the Superman preview have anything to do with it. It has doubled its opening weekend prediction……

No. It's a movie that appeals to a lot of folks 40 and under. A rarity in this market. Video games being the #1 form of entertainment for a a decade has taken effect.

That cult has always been a small audience.

They couldn't boost the directors cut of Justice League past Wonder Woman 1984's streaming numbers on HBO MAX. BVS was so bad with general audiences that the first ever live action major blockbuster crossover with Batman and Superman, something fans have waited generations for, and had Avengers level hype going into it, failed to cross that billion dollar mark upon release. That was obviously the general audience rejecting the movie, yet the cult keeps saying its one of the best CBMs ever. They have always been a vocal minority.

Double the box office predictions though, that is rare but atleast they put the Superman preview in front of it. Imagine what the Last of Us season 2 is gonna do next week…..

A local page I follow on Facebook had a video of people waiting in line for Minecraft wrapped outside the building. I had no idea the power of the Mines lol.

Whoever posted the stats of likes/dislike ratio for the new sneak peak... thank you! Can't wait for this movie.

Do you think it doubled because a bunch of under 25s showed up for a Superman preview?

No but I think Superman preview had some effect on the parents. I know nothing about Minecraft but Jack Black and Jason Momoa brought some fans to the box office as well.

Dude, Superman being attached to Minecraft is very very good for Superman but the idea it had anything to do with Minecraft's success is crazy talk. No normal person outside of fandom went to see Minecraft for the Superman preview. It's Minecraft doing Superman a solid, not vice versa.

Definitely, no doubt! It's just nice to have a current numerical gauge for just how insignificant they are when compared to the grand scheme.

I feel fairly certain the negativity is coming from Snyder fans, at least on twitter. How? Because I have been muting any page that posts #restorethesnyderverse for the past year, and the result - I have not seen a single negative post about this sneak peak on my feed. 🤷‍♀️

It's both sides. It got so bad on my OG Twitter (I just use that one for sports now) that I made a brand new account and started ONLY following accounts that made me feel good and talk about my main interests that I want to delve in. Right away, a DCU page made a post that specifically poked at Snyder fans, and guess what happened? Reposts, shares, bickering, fighting, more reposts. More shares, blahblahblahblah. That shows up on my feed regardless if I engage with it or not. It's so pummeling to see as a fan. That said, I've become so numb to it that I've basically just accepted the fan discourse and only talk about things that speak to me or feel I want to get a word in when defending something so ludicrously written.

What I have been seeing from the toxic Snyder fan lately is as laughable as they've ever been. Truly a dense bunch.

You are right though, the mute button was possibly the best invention that squalor has ever invented. Regardless, toxic fans aren't worth the time. Already spent too much time on people who only feed off their own mindless agenda. At the end of the day, these are comic book freakin movies.

I have to say I’m kinda obsessed with the way the fortress looks. I’ve always been in favour of moving away from the Donner aesthetic and vibe but Gunn is really making it work somehow. Singer made the crystals look so drab in Returns but here they look so vibrant and pretty and high-tech.

I’m really hoping to see some character interactions in the next trailer because if Gunn has nailed that, then any reservations I have for this will be completely gone.

This Fortress is eye candy. Everything about it is brilliant. This is exactly what I always wanted with how the Fortress and its Sci-Fi would work. I really hope Gunn spends a lot of time there. Everything feels refreshed.

That's huge that nobody saw coming. Great move by WB. Minecraft is on its way to really do big numbers. Point for Gunn.

It's not both sides. Have you ever considered why the cult is loathed by the majority of Superman fans?

For craps and giggles, I just opened "X" to see what sunshine and rainbows it was today and these were literally my first three feed posts.

I follow none of these accounts:

Sigh.

There's probably no winning when it comes to picking a tone for a superhero movie. If Gunn had gone darker he'd have been getting reams and reams of backlash for being too edgy, having chosen to do more or less a comedy he's going to get relentlessly battered for being too childish or MCU. Regardless of how fair either critique is, it's just inevitable in a fandom completely and utterly obsessed with fighting over tone.

It's both sides man. They both are at each other's throats. Do you NOT think I don't know why? We've been doing this for a long time. Either side is not innocent in the fight against each other. Discourse takes two mindsets. Again, I'm not condoning such behavior from Snyder fans at all. I know very damn well why. It's disgusting behavior. But DCU fans have taken their loathing and succumbed to that level many times. They add to it. It's plain and simple. I hate it all. I don't see the division ever changing. Though, hopefully Superman does well enough at the BO to eradicate most of those circles.

The studio is banking on reaching a new audience. Hopefully they prevail at such a feat:pray:

There is toxicity in all corners of fandom. There's already a faction of really nasty, hardcore pre-emptive DCU devotees out there who will probably grow in prominence in different directions whether the DCU fails or succeeds but they'll never be anything like the Snyder Cult. That was one of the worst things I've ever seen in any fandom and I've been in this game a long-ass time.

I kinda miss it, though. Every single day around ZSJL's release was unbelievably funny.

I do not think you understand because your empathy lies with the Snyder fanbase because you yourself are a fan. So you want to think better of the whole in general. But even as a Star Wars fan, I've seen nothing like the Snyder Cult. A group who wrapped their persona in bigotry to argue that a character they had no love for until they thought it represented their childhood teen mindset of what is "cool".

This is why others crap on the group. It is why so many have a deep hatred for it. Not all Snyder fans of course. But the Cult part made itself the tip of the spear and thus became the rep. It's unfair but it's reality. And this is why no, it's not the same when someone makes fun of the Cult. Because what they're pushing back against isn't some bad movie. It's a right wing movement cloaked in pop culture akin to Gamergate.

I understand. I also have ZERO empathy for the type of behavior I witnessed from the nasty Snyder fans. Zero. Neve have, never will. We obviously aren't on the same page with the semantics of all the behavior involved. We'll agree to disagree in that regard of the conversation.
