The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

How is that bait? Are you American? Perhaps I’ve grown cynical after our political climate took a dive, but as a Black American, the good justice for all sunshine Supe thing, it can only exist on the screen, no longer real. It hasn’t been.

And to briefly talk about the Snyderbros debate once again. I myself left the BvS boards because it was just ill and ruthless to folks like myself who liked the movie. So no, it wasn’t just that toxic fandom with the issues. Both sides just made it none fun to talk about, which was a bummer.
I used the sarcasm smilie for a reason my man :)

I left the BvS board for much the same reason.

And yes I'm a Liberal American Jew who was born cynical...but that is why i love Superman.

That was your first mistake. :nono:

Of course. At the end of the day it's a choice to delve, we are a glutton for punishment. It's all apart of the dance. I've accepted the discourse, but that won't stop me from having my views on it. At the end of the day, I understand it is my choice to dabble in the nonsense. But I love this stuff, so..here we are.

Part of the reason we don't allow links there because it's gotten so toxic on top of its owner.

I only take a look when it gets certain attention, but the SW fandom ain’t no better.

I understand. I also have ZERO empathy for the type of behavior I witnessed from the nasty Snyder fans. Zero. Neve have, never will. We obviously aren't on the same page with the semantics of all the behavior involved. We'll agree to disagree in that regard of the conversation.
"Semantics". This isn't semantics. Do you think people laughing at the Snyder fanbase, poking fun, is in anyway similar to what the Snyder Cult did?

Just take your own advice and move on already, Darth  You are right.

I have given no advice. You were the one who said you wanted to drop it and I come back the next day and you're still going. Feeling the need to defend the worst of us.
If you want to keep quoting me, as I said many other times. My DM's are open.

I mean, there are Star Trek fans that are upset the new shows are woke. Nintendo is correct in doing whatever they can do to kill Smash Bros organized play. And hey, remember when Godzilla fans from one site invaded this forum and drove ViewerAnon away?

There is a strong, regressive population in all of fandom. I use comicsgate for more than just comics.

toxic star wars fans are the worse.

i grew up with the original star wars trilogy and it was probably the first thing i latched my fandom to.

i still have a soft spot for the prequels as well.

but the toxic fandom that's around it and how bad the sequel trilogy turned out (disney really had no plan) has somewhat tarnished my love for SW.

this is also on top of how vitriolic the fans were towards jake lloyd back when the phantom menace came out.

humans really do suck at times!

with the DCEU going down, at least there's still the comics, animation, and other canons i can still rely on.

and now there's this new reboot of superman with the all new DCU happening that we can look forward to.

with SW, there is only one canon. if they screw up the story where they write themselves into a bad corner then that is it.

i am still angry about how rise of skywalker ended. :really:

Literally the only thing i’m not liking from what I’m seeing thus far is the suit. I like the vibe, the colors; the tone; the music but i do not like this suit. I dont hate it but the collar throws me off. I never ever liked that on Superman. If he was sporting something like Tyler Hoechlin’s suit it’d be perfect.
Willing to reserve Judgment on the suit until i see it in full context REALLY looking forward to the film.

That above shot of the suit when the robots carried him in was all I needed to see. It looks really good, and I'm sure Gunn and his team are tightening up the suit shots even more. I'm in the boat of the more I see the suit as we go, the more it grows on me. We just need that one bombastic shot with David in action or glistening in the sun.

Star Trek fans who think it's too woke are too stupid to live. They literally don't understand Star Trek.

I'm honestly concerned and quite perturbed over how this film is already going over.

It's pretty clear this is the next new, big target in the 'Manosphere'; where you either side with soy-boy beta male Gunn/Corenswet's 'wimpy' Superman or with Snyder's giga-chad, indestructible Superman (except that time he died).

There's an element of toxic masculine energy that pervades the criticism of this film, already. That I'm starting to see rumblings of even being excited and wanting to see this film or hating it and wanting it to fail is equal to a political statement and shows which side of the aisle you fall on.

And I can also see prominent voices online trying to manufacture a flop.

The amount of vitriol for this film I'm seeing already is unearned and feels forced too; but with an agenda behind it.

"The CGI is soooo bad..."
"Every character is a joke!!!!"
"He's so wimpy!"
"LOL DIAPERMAN BETA"

And the constant 'Laugh' reacts to anything to this film is tiresome.

I feel like soon most of YouTube will be making clickbait videos on how it's going to flop, how 'woke' it is, how Gunn is a tyrant who deserves to fail, etc.

It's a shame - but this film is looking to be a political and masculine line in the sand and the next big thing in grifter territory.

All because Gunn dared to do something different and Snyder can't keep going with his grim Superman.
Don’t forget my personal favorite criticism that I have heard about the footage we have seen so far:
The EXTRAS are bad actors.

That still is one of the dumbest criticisms I’ve ever heard about a film.

I’ve decided to love and defend the SW sequels simply as a middle finger to the toxicity.

Justice for Rose
Justice for Finn
Justice for Rey

There. I said it.

This is why others crap on the group. It is why so many have a deep hatred for it. Not all Snyder fans of course. But the Cult part made itself the tip of the spear and thus became the rep. It's unfair but it's reality. And this is why no, it's not the same when someone makes fun of the Cult. Because what they're pushing back against isn't some bad movie. It's a right wing movement cloaked in pop culture akin to Gamergate.
Snydercultism is just modern Conservative Christian Nationalism in Ayn Rand and Heavy Metal drag.

It's both sides. It got so bad on my OG Twitter (I just use that one for sports now) that I made a brand new account and started ONLY following accounts that made me feel good and talk about my main interests that I want to delve in. Right away, a DCU page made a post that specifically poked at Snyder fans, and guess what happened? Reposts, shares, bickering, fighting, more reposts. More shares, blahblahblahblah. That shows up on my feed regardless if I engage with it or not. It's so pummeling to see as a fan. That said, I've become so numb to it that I've basically just accepted the fan discourse and only talk about things that speak to me or feel I want to get a word in when defending something so ludicrously written.

What I have been seeing from the toxic Snyder fan lately is as laughable as they've ever been. Truly a dense bunch.

You are right though, the mute button was possibly the best invention that squalor has ever invented. Regardless, toxic fans aren't worth the time. Already spent too much time on people who only feed off their own mindless agenda. At the end of the day, these are comic book freakin movies.
To be clear, when I said the negativity was coming from just snyderbros, I meant specifically the negativity about this sneak peek.

It wasn't a comment on the overall discourse.

I'm just saying, with snyderbros removed, I haven't seen any negative comments about the sneak peek on my feed.

I gotcha, HD! No worries

Sure. But as criticisms go, that’s pretty,
ENTERTAINING!

i don't see how that's dumb criticism at all lol.

Strictly talking about the movies, but my enjoyment of the DCEU has shifted quite dramatically since having kids. Pre-fatherhood, I really gravitated towards darker/more serious material. And the DCEU acted as a reflection of what I wanted out of comic book movies at the time. It was built for me at that stage in my life. Now…it’s less about me and more about them.

I never would have shown my daughter the Man of Steel or BvS trailers. Not because they’re scary or anything, but they just weren’t meant for them. I showed my daughter the sneak peek and she was so excited. And man, my own excitement rocketed through the roof at the idea of having a Superman movie that both me and my kids can enjoy. Being able to introduce them to something that I’m so passionate about is deeply meaningful at this stage in my life. And that matters more than anything else for me.
