The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

So did Gunn mean he wouldn't release another trailer after the 5-minute preview? Trying to clarify. I like the idea of keeping the film's plot more mysterious. It would be a historic moment if a studio only ever released one trailer for a major franchise. I like being surprised as much as the next audience member.

Since Gunn makes the trailers though, I still kind of would be hoping for at least a little something. But by most second released trailers, it always gives away way too much. I wonder if I would have liked Batman v Superman better--which I didn't--but if they hadn't released that one trailer where they revealed the trinity and Doomsday...sigh, maybe the film could have succeeded better than it did? But I don't think I would have liked the film that much better. God they gave the entire movie away. I thought that Comic con trailer for BvS despite being 4 minutes long was a damn good trailer. It showed a great deal of footage yet the plot remained a mystery until they released the next one...sigh. The suspense dropped after that.

I hate when trailers give everything away. And don't get me started on the Spider-Man Homecoming and Far From Home trailers for example. My God they revealed Ned finding out Peter is Spider-Man to Tony Stark asking Peter to give up the suit, and Cap's cameo...god d#$n it. Then for Far From Home...they showed us Nick Fury's first scene darting Ned, and MJ telling Peter she knows he's Spider-Man even though there was a twist in the actual film, but still...ugh. Son of a...

If Gunn does release a trailer, it better be the final one and he better be careful what he reveals. I'd like to think he would know what to keep unspoiled. But yeah, I still want a trailer as long as it isn't 100% spoilery.

No , that's not what he meant. And he was pretty clear about what he meant. They just released a 5 minute clip, so it'll take a bit more to get the new trailer.

I am guessing English is not their first language...

Saw some breakdowns of when to expect the official Superman Trailer if the studio were to follow Barbies stragedy, and it puts it around mid-May for a July release. Not expecting the trailer on Superman Day, but would be a great surprise nonetheless. We'll be busy that day regardless.

At this point, if it's not on Superman Day (and it likely won't), I'd expect it to be attached with the final MI in May.

Interesting this comparison.
At this point I think we'll get a new poster or character posters for Superman Day and a new trailer in May before "Lilo & Stitch" comes out.

Kate Bosworth's Lois was so painfully unlikable in Superman Returns it hurts.

I don't know whether it was her being miscast in the role or whether it was just the way the character was written & subsequently portrayed by her in SR because I've seen her in a few other things & her characters are a lot more likeable than I found her Lois.

She came across quite mean spirited if that's the correct way to describe it, towards Clark I felt in some of their interactions.

In this case Kevin Spacey.

People always compare Jeff Bezos to Lex Luthor, and I agree with that comparison. But specifically he reminds me of the Kevin Spacey Lex Luthor.

He actually does look like him, but more importantly, he seems like the kind of guy who would spend a few months plowing a 90-year-old until she croaks just so he could steal all of her money.

His plan doesn't make much sense, but then again he kept referring to selling Kryptonian weapons and I was like "where are they".

Most Lois’ on film come across that way. Or they come across as superficial and shallow, having schoolgirl crushes over Superman while treating Clark as a dork. That’s why Bitsie Tulloch’s Lois was a breath of fresh air. She was shown as being enamored with Clark because he is a good guy. She initially assumed that Superman was probably a meathead.

I still don't get the Bosworth hate. Unlikeable doesn't mean much bc her Lois never does anything bad that warrants dislike (aside from inadvertently putting the kid in danger). She was only very aloof with Clark, who's always mumbling his way into conversation with a working mother on constant deadlines and the only person trying to figure out Lex's evil plot. She was the competent/obsessive journalist Lois is supposed to be, she was sweet with her kid, lovelorn while still dignified... she didn't set the world on fire or anything, but I'd easily grade her as ok. I'd agree she was a bad choice only in that she had no chemistry with Routh... who never got to be too interesting as a romantic hero anyway. But skill-wise, I think Bosworth outacts him.

Bosworth was just too young to play Lois. Especially the version in SR. They needed a stronger more experienced actor in the role. Especially since Routh was also young and inexperienced and need a strong co-lead to anchor him (like Pine did with Gadot in Wonder Woman). It was supposed to have been Keri Russell. She would have been perfect.

Yeah she came off as a teenager pretending to be an adult. I don't hate her but she definitely did not fit the rules at all.

Doesn't help that the characters were supposed to be written as if they had considerable experience (of at least the events of Superman and Superman II + five years of Superman's absence), and instead they skewed as young as the high school/college kids casting of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in the Spider-Man movies. The more one thinks about Superman Returns, the less it makes sense.

There's such a whiplash in what it wants to be vs what it actually is.
