The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Everything in the trailer looks pretty good but I really don't like Superman screaming at Lois. Kinda wishing that wasn't a thing.

I don't see the issue. He's not threatening Lois or belittling her. They're having a passionate discussion about right/wrong and saving lives. Honestly, I love the frustration from Superman here. Saving lives shouldn't be questioned, it shouldn't be political... and yet...

It also adds some dramatic heft to their relationship. Lois views things through a journalistic lens (and further, through the lens of the public), and it's bound to be at odds with Superman's more wholesome (if naive) view of how humanity should be. They're both going to have to move closer to the other's position in order to strengthen their relationship, and I think that'll be interesting to watch on screen.

Been having trouble with the SHH forums, so late to the Superman party:

Gunn delivered. Any Super-fan who watched that trailer and has any types of ill feelings or worry towards it simply doesn't care for the character. This is quintessential comic book Superman. It's honestly not up for debate.

When Gunn was talking about the Lois Lane and Clark interview, he mentioned it being 10 minutes long. At first I thought that would be way too long in cinematic minutes. Nah, give me that ENTIRE 10 minutes please, and thanks.

David was born to play Superman. Rachel is magnificent and will be the defining all around Lois. She's absolutely phenomenal.

John Murphy's score makes me cry every single time I watch. The power of the Williams theme has its own soul. The feels go straight to the heart. I like how Murphy gave it more bass. I can just imagine how that trailer will sound on the big screen.

Bring on July 11th. I've seen a enough. :legacy:

Ten minutes...sounds like something pretty early on. Maybe it's our way into the near of the story!

I honestly hope JG doesn't cut any of that. Not one second. Gunn is also proving he can do tension well. The drama and chemistry between David and Rachel are off the charts. I also just wanted to hug everyone's mother when Ma came into the frame, lol. Love.

The interview is the best part of the trailer for me and it's only 30s of it. Very ready for that.

It is unbelievably good. For as quirky Gunn can get with dialogue for B characters, the entire segment in that interview freakin slapped.

I, for one, couldn't get enough of the tension between Lois and Clark. One of the most relatable captures of their relationship on screen yet. We've all been in that situation before (I know I've have x100) where you are trying to have a cordial conversation with someone within a subject matter that you full heartely believe in where frustrations set in when your point of view isn't getting heard where ones intentions are squeaky pure. Spot on. David's Clark is already refreshing and new in that regard. That's what I'm looking for. Give me something fresh-fresh.

The color pallet and overall filters Gunn is using was throwing me off a bit for some time. I think it was because of all the All-Star Superman inspirations. I get that All-Star is apart of the marketing strategy (and rightfully so) but when it comes to the color grading, tones, filters, and visuals are concerned, I can't help but think of Superman: Last Son. Gunn's pallet reminds me most of that book by Johns than any other story.

i am loving all the visuals so far.
this feels like the superman movie that both fans and general audience can finally enjoy together.

superman needs to stop screaming at women though
men are always emotional...this is why they cannot be in leadership positions :o

joking aside, i also can't wait to see how the side characters play into this.
metamorpho!
gonna be cool to see ramona fradon and bob haney's names on the creator credit on the big screen.

Working through that type of challenging relationship will have its quirks. They always say: BRINGING WORK HOME IS A BAD IDEA, and this Lo is a baddie. You can see her getting giddy when Clark gave her the OK. He regretted that one quick lol.

For all those not liking Clark raising his voice to Lois, she's a strong independent woman. She'll be fine. If you're gonna use your one chance interview with Superman to poke and prod and try to get under his skin then don't cry when you do and he reacts. He didn't b**** slap her or anything. Just a heated debate. This is not the fun flirty Superman interview from '78'.

This^. Gunn is going to resort to Gunn-isms, we all know that, but I think he is surprising people and throwing them off by showing he can bring the intensity and seriousness.

When we first heard of him doing the interview, we probably all thought it would be in the vein of '78. The haters had their angst with this interview tee'ed up beforehand, ready to rag on Gunn and the fans for not being able to "move on" from Reeve. Instead, Gunn throws a curveball and does the opposite, putting a brand new spin on the interview, forcing the haters to move the goalposts. All of a sudden, they are suggesting Clark would never act like this and that the other Supermen would not resort in this type of emotional way. Suddenly, nostalgia matters. Funny coming from a crowd who begs for the fanbase to accept new takes on the character. Watching that irony has been enjoyable and, of course, annoying.

Also important to keep in mind that the actual scene is reportedly MUCH longer, so they've trimmed a ton out for the trailer (which you can tell by Clark's ever-changing positions throughout). I'm sure the discussion escalates far more gradually in context.

For those that have eagle eyes, is that Will Reeve on the building's monitor?

Doesn't look exactly like him to me (the jawline in particular), but we know he's in it and it could just be a weird screencap. So maybe lol.
DCU Updates reposted a tweet that says it's Lawrence J. Gilligan.

Did they trim it or is he jsut REALLY fidgety? He does have superspeed after all

It's trimmed and mixed up. The order of the questions and responses don't line up with whether he's sitting or standing. I get the feeling it'll build. He could be a bit on edge too but the trailer definitely chopped up quite a bit.

It’s definitely trimmed, but I do think they might cut back and forth to him sitting/standing in different positions throughout for comedic purposes as well. There WAS that description at CinemaCon where they showed a good bit of it and one person said that at some point while Lois restarts her voice recorder, he eats a whole stack of pancakes. So it would seem they play with that aspect a bit.
