The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

A bit late to the party on the Superman front, but loved the new trailer & it's only made me look forward to seeing the film even more.

The only thing I didn't particularly care for in the trailer was Clark yelling at Lois.. now, before people bite my head off because I know some people can get quite defensive the second somebody doesn't like every single thing about the film they're public enemy number one, the context matters.

I imagine that interview scene is, well I don't imagine, it will be significantly longer than what was obviously shown & it hopefully gradually escalates to that moment. I'm don't particularly care for him raising his voice at her in general, however part of the problem with seeing such a condensed version of the scene in the trailer is that it makes Clark look like he has an extremely short temper.

If they have fleshed out & done that scene well it has the potential to be a powerful scene in the film, which they hopefully have. :fingerscrossed:

Aside from that, as I said, loved the look of everything else. Roll on July. :supes:
I agree with this sentiment. Hopefully the scene plays better in the movie.

If you know anything about the Lois and Clark dynamic, he was probably playing along nicely and she just started eating him alive left and right with smart, frustrating questions he knows he’d be asked.

Imagine doing the right thing and constantly being hounded and questioned over it. I don’t care if you’re Superman, it’s going to be frustrating. Plus it humanizes Clark.

It’s definitely an edited down scene where not as much context is provided. I think the full scene is gonna be great.

I don’t understand why people are upset by Clark showing emotion. Again, he’s not being abusive. People are allowed to get upset. If he was perfect in every situation then he wouldn’t be interesting. He’d be a robot. Seeing Clark express his emotions over saving people is fantastic.

Everything we’re getting is all welcomed change, you can actually tell this Clark Kent is in love with his Lois Lane

And they have chemistry believe it or not (this helps a lot)

he's probably frustrated that the woman he's madly in love with is also questioning his actions (even tho she's just doing her job).

it's the problem when you mix work life with your personal life :weeping:

these kind of arguments have happened with my wife and i.
where you're trying to get your significant other to understand your point of view, but they question you, then you both get so worked up, you both start talking over each other in your LOUD VOICES.

if @Black Narcissus were my neighbor, he would've called the police on me a couple times by now...!:peek::rofl::weeping:

警察!警察!jing cha! jing cha!

What do all of these grifters have to say about Thunderbolts...or New Avengers...or whatever the film is called now? all the positive press didn't do much for the box office.

Meanwhile Sinners keeps chugging along ;)
Means nothing either way. The film will either suck or it won't period.

While I love the Guardians films and GUNNS style, the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker (film and shows) are cringe worthy.

I didn’t even think that he was upset per se in that scene, it was more like him getting exasperated at Lois’ questions. And I’m sure that the scene plays out at 5 times its length and is more of a showcase of Lois’ abilities and talents as a reporter than anything else.

This Lois even rattles Superman with her journalism skills. That’s legit pretty cool.

Exactly. My SO and I are both passionate and hardheaded and so when we go back and forth it can escalate much like that plays out. Then one (or both) of us realizes we are being stupid and we calm down. My guess is Superman does the same thing.

And I would bet Lois is trying to trigger that reaction to show him how he can be rattled.

They’re just not used to seeing Superman showing any emotion because he had four straight film appearances where he barely cracked a facial expression.

EPIC shot! Dare I say the best that David has ever looked in the suit.

Now why wasn't THAT our first official image?

EDIT: There's even a shot of Superman in flight that they used for merchandising, I think. It looks like it's paying homage to the old Christopher Reeve photo. Even something like that would've been cool.

Yeah I don’t get Gunn’s line of thinking with that initial suit reveal. I think the suit looks at its best when it appears bright and pristine. It gives off the positive, hopeful tone that the movie seems to be going for. I don’t think it looks great when it’s burned and battered, so it’s kind of odd that he used that pic for the first look. I guess he was going for that “Superman never gives up or takes a day off” kinda vibe, but it’s just made him look depressed and tired.

i think gunn was playing with us with that first look and trying to set our expectations low.

so when we see the suit in its full glory like this, we are like:

So there are 2 versions of the Supes trailer going to theaters this week. One on M:I and one on Lilo & Stitch. I assume they’re basically the same, but with the latter having a few shots replaced to be less intense for the kiddos, which is what they did with the teaser as well, when they replaced the shot of Lex with the gun with him walking into the Fortress, etc. But that means there are likely still a few new shots to be seen!

Random question (and forgive me if it's been asked already), but why is Krypto full on CGI in this? Obviously I get the flying and the action sequences and all that, but they didn't use a real dog in other non-superpowered scenes?

Because rule #1 in Hollywood: never work with kids or animals. :o

If you’re already having to build a CGI dog for A LOT of stuff, it’s just more efficient to use that full-time. Working with real animals to get the shot just right is a massive time suck and then you have the added challenge for the VFX crew of having to match up with the real one. They did have a real dog on set for reference when they needed it.

It all makes sense.

The amount of detail they put in the dog is incredible.

It's not like Gunn doesn't have experience with such things before:
