The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I will never forgive Grace for ruining Han Solo’s death because she had to put an FU Kilo in her thumbnail that popped up on my television screen just before I was headed out to see the movie at 7AM opening day.:fuming::censor:

I have zero problems with spoilers so I’m just jealous people in other countries get to see it before me lol.
There are a lot of things I'm jealous of when it comes to other countries at the moment. :o

If it's something I'm excited for, I'm all about the spoilers. There have been a few times where I got within a week and not seen anything, and then I might try to avoid them. But that's definitely not the norm.

If you can't stop yourself going on social media or Youtube for a few days to avoid some turd spoiling a film/tv show for you, you might have an underlining problem with using it too much anyway.

Anyone have plans for Superman day?

To be fair, sometimes is a matter of being used to opening tabs or apps, you don't even notice you might get spoiled unless you make an effort.
I work with my laptop 95% of the day, sometimes just to take my mind off for a few seconds I open different tabs to read or listen different things. Those are the death clicks (?).

Did anyone else see a notice that the International date has moved up 2 days to the 9th July? Or did I imagine it?
I see this being reported all over the place like it's new info, but it's not. We already knew the release date was the 9th for a few countries. The website states 'starting from 9th July'. It's still only a few countries (not including the UK). Some get it on 10th. Most still 11th though.

IMDB shows full list if anyone's curious!

That's fair, I mean more for the people that would fill any void in work or time by opening their phone & browsing social media taking chunks of their day up.

Usually I make the effort if it's something I don't want to be ruined for me. Even if I did forget myself & open something without thinking, there's nobody I'm subscribed to or follow that would post anything spoiler filled anyway.

I’m probably doing a MAWS rewatch for it this year. I haven’t rewatched S2 yet at all, which is my fave season so far, so it feels like time.

I recommend watching this as well on Superman Day.:nerd:

i'm a big ol' batman fan, but even i don't want any mention of batman in this.
would be too distracting.

just want to see gunn slowly build up superman and his world in this.

there's already plenty of side characters in this.

i'm plenty hyped to see what hawkgirl, metamorpho and mr terrific do in this.

In an ideal world, I'd have preferred if Superman was the lone superhero in this film & that any mention of any other heroes or their alter egos was limited to Easter Eggs that only keen eyed viewers would see.

I get that they're trying to launch other projects off Superman, but damn, learn from the previous iteration about going Gun Ho too quickly.

The way James Gunn put it makes perfect sense.

Clark and Superman each have their own set of pals / supporting cast.

Maybe let's just wait to see how it works in the actual movie. Deadpool had two X-Men by his side in his first movie. Worked like magic.

I mean, they’re establishing a universe this Superman exists in where superheroes are already commonplace (like 93% of all DC stories). Hard to do that without showing a few of those other heroes. It’s not the same as what the last iteration did - it’s not advertisements for the next projects (we don’t even know where Metamorpho, Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific would even appear next), it’s literally establishing a setting. This isn’t the Justice League we’re setting up here. It’s Clark’s other work colleagues he has to deal with on the regular, and that’s why they are there. They are a big part of his dual life. They’re here to serve this movie, as it has a very different type of setting than any world a previous Supes film has been set in, and it’s one that more closely represents the comics universe. Reducing them to fan-service cameos or just cheap Easter Eggs would be exactly the type of thing to avoid here, imo.

Actually I would love a mention of Gotham and Themyscira. Love the fact DCU will be a real life comic book world. Not our world with Superheroes like the MCU that makes no sense. Daredevil and Spiderman literally in the same city and they never come across one and other.:hurt: I don’t want another BVS situation when Gotham and Metropolis were sister cities.

I dunno, I would have said id have prefered no other heroes too at first... but there's something Gunn said about the other heroes being there because, just like in comics, his friends are superheroes. The more I think about that, the more I've warmed to it. Precisely because it's not there just for Easter eggs or fan service or to lead into Justice League movies. It's there to be true to that aspect of Superman's life.

EDIT: Apparently I wrote too slow and others have said this. Great minds! 😅

I'm sorry, what? Whether the locations exist in the real world or not, that same issue exist in both DC and Marvel. Especially as so many heroes are international, and can fly. And even in the MCU, Spider-Man and Daredevil literally met. Spider-Man hung out with Strange and Iron Man as well outside of Avengers flicks.

Yeah, I brought up Batman because this is an already established DCU... Plus Brandon Sklenar alluded to already talking to DC about Batman haha.
