The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

As long as the Superman sequel doesn't try to shoehorn Batman into the story in order to rush to the Justice League.
I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be a Superman/Batman movie. I think Gunn wants to move the DCU story. I could see the Bat family cameo along with some of his more powerful rogues. Lex and Bruce is also a good show when they talk business. The question is will this movie come out before Brave and the Bold. Personally I could live without a direct sequel. Did we really need a Man of Steel 2 if BVS was a better movie.

They smell Marvel blood…….

I can almost guarantee you that somewhere in Los Angeles 15-20 years ago, Kevin Feige and his people were pounding the table for Tony Stark and Steve Rogers to have a similar dynamic to Batman and Superman

That particular friendship has always been the blueprint to a successful DC Universe, and when BvS failed to strike a chord with general audiences, the entire thing was basically dead on arrival. I think Gunn understands what’s audiences want and what’s gonna work

Got to give Feige credit. He turned Iron Man into Batman and Captain America into Superman for Marvel. Now with both characters gone. Gunn can bring Superman and Batman back to the top for DC.

avoid that ben affleck stunt type casting again. :peek:
Hey now, Affleck was great (in a very terrible movie, less so the follow-ups - much less so) and the meta aspect of how much of Ben's natural miserable disaster energy bled into Bruce was great. A performer with a known, recognizable history and perception is usually a boost if utilized correctly, imo.

What matters is putting butts in seats.
Lol Glen Powell is perfectly popular but he's not some ****ing crazy box office guarantor. There's tons of actors out there who are par with him in terms of popularity.

He'd also be horrendously miscast, for what it's worth.

I don’t think any actor except maybe Reynolds as Deadpool and maybe Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in a Marvel movie is going to bring fans to a movie. If DC is about the money they would bring Pattinson to the DCU.

Eh, people mistake big name stars not being able to inherently push movies to hit status with actors not mattering at all. To use a major example: maybe the Dune series still would have been successful with a lesser known cast, but every single character being played by a beloved popular actor clearly had a ton to do with it.

Big names are usually big names because they're great and people love them. The attitude that casting big names is just purely stunt casting or cynically motivated has always rung insanely false to me.

I'm jealous, I just don't know of who.

Not for the Gunn version of the character which will probably be closer to Adam West/Joel Schumacher than Nolan/Reeves.

For me at least, I think it’s important to get that friendship/alliance right before any justice league seeds are planted

It should be both a Batman and Superman movie, literally the World’s Finest!
Yup. Have batman and superman team up against Lex and the joker. .
Joker comes to Lex with a plan, ie, Lex will go to Gotham, joker to metropolis.

Batman visits superman to get the lowdown on lex and why he's in gotham, and superman mentions the joker is now in metropolis causing havoc, etc.

Except their friendship sucked in the MCU. I never bought that they were friends which was why (well one of many reasons why) Civil War was laughable in my eyes.

As for what comes next...I don't think it is a good idea to do a World's Finest film until they have done a Batman film. You run the risk of one of the big problems of BvS in that you need to now introduce Batman and his part of the universe in what should be a Superman film. (even if it isn't a sequel) World's Finest should be a film that needs no introduction...we know Superman, we know Batman now we see them together saving the world together.

I think people might be reading what he is saying wrong...and i think that is why he said it that way :)

And Glen Powell is not right for Batman. Bruce Wayne maybe but he doesn't have the darkness or gravitas to be Batman IMHO. (I like Glen a lot so no shade on him) Powell always looks like he is on his way to a UT-Austin football game...ready to have fun and party. I just dont see him being dark enough to be Batman even in a universe run by Gunn.

I don't even really think Powell is particularly good casting for an Adam Westian Batman. The difference between casting standard Batman and comedy Batman, imo, is minimal. You'd get a lot more mileage out of Pattinson delivering comedic material with the exact same performance he gave in The Batman than an actor deliberately being silly with it.

Off-topic, though. Batman stealing Superman's thunder, hopefully he won't do that when the sequel to Superman is a Batman crossover movie (please don't do this again, I know you're gonna but please don't).
