The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

Speaking of The Dark Knight. One thing that gives me hope for this film’s quality is that while we’ve heard that WB is very confident in it, I haven’t heard anyone liken it to The Dark Knight in anyway. WB always seems to do that whenever they have a turd on their hands. I remember some comments about BvS and (I think) The Flash where they claimed it was the next TDK or something. Perhaps the worst example was some suit at WB claiming that Peter Sarsgaard’s Hector Hammond in Green Lantern was on the level of Heath Ledger’s Joker.
You jinxed it 😅

PRESENT DAY HEROLEE10: (Travels back 2018) I come to tell everyone that we finally get the Supean film that most fans have been clamoring for since Superman II.

2018 FANS: Great. Given our luck with the film franchise, we're sure that it wasn't cheap to get that. What did it cost?

PRESENT DAY HEROLEE10: (Looks back at the events of 2025)

take ur time machine further back to 2016 and save Harambe.

when they killed Harambe, it set off a chain of events that led to the dark times.
all signs point to Harambe.

Not to forget Spider-Man 2002 outside of Warner Bros
This one always slips through the cracks when people talk about comic book films that had a lot of hype. I still haven’t seen another Spidey flick reach the fever pitch that this one did prior to release and I’m including the two Raimi films that followed. Spider-Man was everywhere in the lead up to that film and the anticipation was palpable.

I was looking forward to seeing Superman flying in IMax but these television spots are so good without the big screen. Gunn appears to have taken Supes flying to a new level. David looks incredible. I think MOS did a great job but Gunn has taken the flying to another level.

Side note, please let Supergirl flying look just as good.

Not sure if the rumor that the film has an opening crawl to explains what is going on is true or not but if it is then maybe a. don't throw everything and the kitchen sink into the first movie or b. have the movie be longer than 2 hours.

I’m not entirely sure why an opening crawl would materially impact the movie. I personally doubt that it has one (because it’s the 1st movie in the new universe and there’s no backstory necessary), but if it does then that’s fine.

Again, doesn’t impact the movie.

Agreed that I don’t think a crawl is a bad/complicated thing. Star Wars gets away with it and it ain’t hard to follow.

It’s probably there to explain that superheroes have been on the planet for 300 years. So you just buy-in on this world full of them right away.

I’ve just seen a new TV spot with a gag about the JUSTICE GANG, with what appears to be the fallen Kaiju in the background and I was wondering if this is the case that Superman tried to stop or otherwise pacify the Kaiju, then the others come in and kill it. Guy Gardner is laughing and joking after killing it and Superman, in the BG of the shot, is actually mourning the Kaiju and wondering how they can make jokes after killing something. I believe this would then lead to the Stagg Industries scene where they square off about it, leading to the “Make a move, Big Blue” line.

The Batman did the same thing with its opening voiceover. It used Bruce's monologue to set the scene and the setting of that particular take on Batman. Nothing wrong with it. Many movies have done this, such as Blade Runner and Gladiator with their intro cards.
