The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I really don't get the online discourse about the Superman meeting Lex clip, saying that Dave showed "too much" emotion in the scene...

Like... Superman has showed emotion before, especially when egged on by Luthor of all people his arch nemesis, guys existed for 70+ years in the comics. :o
Literally every version of Superman acts this way...except ones who can't act :lmao: :o :wow:

Christopher Reeve literally screamed like a banshee and traveled through time because Lois died...

I mean, Superman is literally acting this way because his dog was kidnapped. What man wouldn't be ****ing pissed off if some ******* took their dog?

If their argument is that Superman shouldn't get that worked up over his family's dog being kidnapped, then I wonder what kind of monsters these people are.

the only people who say that Superman "shouldn't show emotion" are the Snyder cultists and those who never picked up or watched anything with Superman in it. Superman is all about emotion, all about warmth and compassion.....all about the best of humanity. That's why Reeve's Superman (and Reeves's Superman before him) resonated so much with their respective generations while the Superman cardboard cut-ups in SR, MOS and BVS haven't. The former 2 showed charm and charisma, a sort of identifiable affability that pierced the zeitgeist while the latter 2 were nothing but emo mopes that reflected the cynicism of their respective directors.

Away from live action, the scene in my adventures where the brainiac controlled Kara is trying to attack Clark and instead of hitting her back he hugs her....now THAT is my boy Superman.

Here is an excerpt where my 2nd favorite character tells the world exactly why my favorite character is best:

The SnyderCultists don't even have room to talk, because THEIR Superman nearly destroyed several miles of a small town when Zod threatened his mother. Superman in this clip is massively restrained by comparison.

Nice. I don't collect action figures but from what I've seen the silver age Superman is the "ring that rules them all"

Mafex and Hot toys will make killer versions of David's Superman but they are way too pricey. I mean honestly $250 for an action figure?!:astonish::disguise: Seriously?
I am not a collector, by any means. I do have some figures though.

That said, I do have Mafex's HUSH Superman. He wasn't cheap, around $120, I think. He's great, but.

Personally, I much prefer the McFarlane Superman you showed here. It is my ideal, definitive Superman.

Only recently did I start appreciating McFarlane. Yes, there are better companies but when figures start being $70+, it stops being as fun, IMO.

McFarlane is that sweet spot of awesome size, well made and still fun for the price.

Hot Toys, though - they're 12" tall and at least well worth the price.

Unfortunately, we live in a time where politics and issues such as a crisis of gender/masculinity have consumed the discourse surrounding film, games and other media.

The campaign and first term of Donald Trump was shaped - literally - by GamerGate (look it up).

And in this insane radicalization of men - certain IPs and characters have been centered as paragons/symbols of ideal masculinity. And they're framed as being under attack, therefore, your masculinity is under attack too.

Superman is one of those characters. Snyder's version, one of stoicism, God-like strength, frustration and giga-chad jawline is seen as a form of peak masculinity. Snyder's films being dour, angsty, faux-deep slogs is also what they feel represents 'cinema'. Because seriousness = credibility. Which they desperately want.

They never 'got' Superman, though. Superman is as non-toxic of a masculine character as can be. He has emotions, he has doubt, he has fear and feels alienated. He is gentle at heart because he knows how strong he is.

He does the right thing. And none of this makes him boring! It makes him compelling, that someone with the strength and powers that he has chooses to do the right thing and be a good person. That is an anomaly in our world, and it remains his greatest superpower, though.

The fans you're referring to are the types who don't understand that power is not brute force; but look at our current American politics. Brute force is now considered peak power.

Superman is aspirational. But their idea of what is aspirational about him asks nothing of them - it only asks for nihilism, brute-force and stoicism.

It is like that scene in Schindler's List where Oskar describes what true power is. Restraint, humility, and forgiveness is true power. Not force and exercising your ability to exert will on others. That's why Superman is a great character and endures.

Goodness is not boring.
Brute force, stoicism and angst are not some form of masculine perfection.

One can dislike this film or how it looks quality-wise, but if you tell me that it's not 'Superman', then you don't understand the character.

I'm tired of a character as good as Superman being bent and contorted into something he is not.

Superman IS goodness.
Not toxicity.

I love anytime Superman and Dick interact :)

I knew you wouldn't let me down Lily!

Hope everyone is striding along well. Have been doing pretty good avoiding most things the past few weeks. I've seen more than enough to try and go dark and have been on X just enough to still be able to mingle while still trying to dodge the insane media blitz. We're basically days away now. WILD!

Wanted to share my DCU suit finally coming in the other day and show to those who will appreciate. Just got to tinker with it before a few charity events with the kids. No muscle suit. Just good 'ol fashion hard work and weightlifting. Life is good. :legacy:1000008520.png
Praying this next week flys by so we can dive into the final product once and for all.

Looks great! 😁

Looks great! 😁
The suit has grown on me tenfold! It's been really great to be wrapped up in Superman-Mania and see him get the A-List treatment from all angles (I know Supes is A-List persay) but speaking in a way where he's getting that Batman acknowledgment and TLC. What's not to love. 🩵

They live in a bubble known as Twitter. All of those people have made it abundantly clear that their introduction to films was through Zack Snyder, let alone just comic book films. It may sound like gatekeeping, but it's the truth. To them, that's THE bar, no matter how much more of a real Superman adaption this ends up being.

That's what happens when the filmmakers finally get the character right, and show general audiences how insanely cool and modern the character is!
