While I don’t expect this film to suddenly turn the world around and make everyone start holding hands and going kumbaya, I would hope that, with the kind of power that this character has in the public and cultural consciousness, that a good portion of people that see this film at least have their hearts and minds slightly touched, opened to and softened to the idea of goodness and kindness being a strength to be praised instead of a weakness to be mocked and start to come back and begin making the change in their lives to be better people. To use a medical analogy, maybe not an immediate full-on medical cure or corrective surgery that completely fixes, solves and gets rid of the issue, but at least a bit of medicine, attention and physical therapy so that things can start to heal a bit, not hurt as much and become more manageable, and then go from there.
And, after seeing some of the stuff today posted online by some pretty big news political personalities, lord knows we need it now more than ever. This film could not have come out at a better time.
