The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I dunno...watching that I can see why it didnt really click in test screenings.

The general is dead, long live the general. Before Magneto, Doc Ock, Loki, Thanos or Ledger's Joker Stamp was the first truly great comicbook movie villain.
I heard some say that great actors are 50% talent and 50% charisma but with Stamp it was 100% charisma................and another 100% talent, just for kicks! And if anyone wants proof just go watch Electra (or don't and just take my word for it) and even though that movie made Rebel moon seem like true cinema, Stamp was still great in it.
P.s. Stamp was wonderful in the Adjustment Bureau with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, wonderful movie based on PKD's short story, I truly recommend it. A rare occasion where the adaptation is far superior to the (already excellent) source material.

EmpireCity Box Office is a good BO analyst on twitter and also usually has an idea about movie scheduling. He says follow-up is being fast-tracked by WB and either July 9th or 16 2027 seems to be happening. Will be shooting the same time as Batman II early next year.
He also said Superman was tracking at $110 million opening week and Fantastic Four was headed to $130 million plus opening weekend so he has his misses. We all can see WB wants Superman and Batman in the same year right before Secret Wars. Fingers crossed it happens……. I wonder what David and Milly’s schedules look like. I heard David is doing a football movie. Milly has been very busy in her own right.

David’s football movie has been shooting since before the press tour and is probably already done filming by now, and if not, will be very soon. It will not be a conflict with any potential upcoming projects. Milly doesn’t currently have any conflicts that I’m aware of either.

He's got Texas's support... Weirdos. :o

I have said it before David, Milly, and Aaron can be movie stars going forward. We all know that John Cena and Isabela are hot as well right now. We are eating right in the DC universe.

I dont know that i would say they are good...they used to be before COVID but arent they the ones that had the hige crashout on boxofficetheory?

Yeah that football movie could be an awards contender for David. Just imagine Superman being up for an Oscar. So cool, dude.

EmpireCity is not perfect by any means but they still have a pretty good overall track record despite some misses like overestimating WOM boosting FF4 ticket sales and their personality doesn't exactly win over a lot of fans. But they've been better than those who will forecast 175 projecting for Superman based on social media metrics.

David's football movie wrapped. That's why he had a crewcut during the press tour. He cut it short for the movie. They filmed mostly in Australia and a little bit in New Jersey.

Still, it's very likely that James Gunn will try to pull a Spider-Man 2 and come out with a sequel two years after the first one. And if anyone can pull that off, it's James Gunn. Man's a machine!

Also, if he's got a detailed treatment already, that'll give him and the team head start on what kind of characters and sets will appear and will need to be designed and prepped.

I hope that they can get Steel in there. I LOVE John Henry Iron's story.

Yeah I would love to see Steel show up too. He would be a cool addition and would fit right in with the whole “Super Family” theme if he has his red cape.

Anyway, as I said in another thread (I think) Gunn will hopefully incorporate elements from both Superman: Brainiac and House of Brainiac in the sequel. He can easily merge both stories as well as his own ideas and it would all feel very organic with what he set up in the first film. House of Brainiac has some (rather heavy handed) political commentary about immigration (using aliens in this case) that could serve as a follow up from all the crap that Lex tried to do in the first movie. Also, Perry White is running for mayor against a xenophobic Trump-type, and that could be great to see in a film because I want more Wendell Pierce. Of course, it might be too early to have Perry in role outside of the Daily Planet so maybe Perry, Lois and Jimmy could just be working to expose the guy instead. HOB also features Lobo prominently and if he makes a big splash in Supergirl, I have to think they’ll want to use him again soon. And Momoa is a box office draw obviously.

It will be Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto as the main cast. Obviously the Daily planet reporters will be side characters. My side heroes would be John Stewart with the Justice Gang. You gonna need two Lanterns to fight Brainiac.

Batman or Martian Manhunter would be cool, too.

Batman doesn't even need to take the spotlight or something. He'd work as a supporting character just like the Justice Gang did in the first movie.

Originally a July 2027 release date seemed like a longshot but it is possible. You can go into pre-production based on a treatment. They did with Superman Returns. You already have some concept designs to work off from the last film. Gunn mentioned scheduling things. You need to book cast, crew, studio time, etc. Either way, we'll know in a few months.

DCU Batman and Superman together need to be saved for after Batman is established in the DCU. Let’s not make the Snyder mistake.

Batman will never be a side character. He is one of the most popular characters in the world in any medium. If he even shows up as a cameo it will overshadow a lot of things.

The way he's perceived during the marketing is one thing. But Batman can absolutely work as a supporting character. That's on the script, not character popularity.
