The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

yea, i have been watching a couple youtube reactions and people are loving it.
it's awesome. and quite a bit of these youtubers are not very familiar with superman lore.
so this movie is probably creating a whole new generation of superman fans.

I mean there is no denying Superman was a very big deal. I mean just domestically it is currently the #3 film of the year (JW is #4 FF #7) and it is #6 WW. (JW #4 and FF #9) That is pretty dang impressive.

While JW is showing the continued diminished returns of that franchise...I honestly thought FF would do better seeing as it is quite important to the Avengers going forward and has a cast most seem to like with a cool period piece aesthetic. To barely be breaking even is pretty crazy. It seems like the Marvel Brand is sort of stuck in an audience rut right now especially domestically. I mean #7, 8 and 10 at the domestic BO are Marvel films. (FF, Captain America BNW and Thunderbolts) WW they are #9,10 and 11.

Superman it would seem, is a breathe of fresh air to a lot of moviegoers which is cool to see.

The reactions have been wonderful to watch across the board. All of them have been reacting the way I’d hoped.

These guys especially

I subscribe to their Patreon. Hands down the best reaction I've seen online so far.

Their reaction just goes to show you how well Gunn handled this character and film. Jay, who was indifferent to Superman, was in tears throughout and felt healed by the movie. And Adam, whose favorite character is Superman, never felt like he got the Superman film he wanted until now.

And Jay is absolutely a mush lol.

He’s so good. So, so good. Like, it’s hard to believe it’s an audition tape and not just an outtake from the actual scene.

I have to say it. Corenswet (and Brosnahan and Hoult) are god-tier casting for superhero movies. Right up with with Reeve, Kidder, RDJ, Chris Evans, Hemsworth, Boseman, Ledger, Bale, etc. I feel so lucky we got them.

Also interesting that the conflict was in Pokolistan in the original draft. I wonder if the original version of the movie tied into Creature Commandoes more.

The scripts actors get for auditions aren't detail for detail the same as the screen play. Also keeps leaks from getting out.

Yeah that’s true but Pokolistan is so specific that it makes me wonder if the original version tied closer into CC. You’re probably right though.

Sometimes they don't even know who or what they're auditioning for. I remember reading somewhere that the singer Madison Beer auditioned for Superman & because the details were so vague she didn't even know what character she was auditioning to play.

Wow, its subtle differences but as someone who liked his performance more than how the character was written/directed this is really good. Makes me think that I'll feel very differently about him under a different director. The very soft-spoken restraint is so Superman to me.

Broshanan sounds just like Margot Kidder when she says the line
"Superman! He's your friend" to Green Lantern in the Hall of Justice scene.

I actually have the same experience with that scene. Idk if it's that she sounds like her but the way she delivers the line reminds me of her. She also reminds me of TAS Lois there too.

If it had been delivered like that in the movie --- and it's a TERRIFIC audition ,by the way --- you'd lose the tension of the scene.

Lois getting under Clark's skin is an important moment for both characters, and the story itself.

There were definitely a few of RB's line deliveries that made me giddy-- just the inflection and tone of voice on things like "How do you do it, Jimmy?" were so old fashioned Lois-y.

Gunn keeps giving news about the next DCU movie featuring Superman. He hinted to deadline that Justice Gang and the daily planet crew would return. Don’t get me wrong I want to see more of them but I would love to see a movie featuring Superman/Supergirl taking on Brainiac where we learn more about Krypton. I want to go deep in Kal’s views in contrast to Kara’s views. Sounds compelling. I get it though, Superman and Supergirl would have had their solo movies released so you want to build on the other characters as well.
