The Daily Planet Vol. 2: Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

lol I feel like a dope for pre-ordering the Blu-Ray last week and it doesn’t get here until next week. I planned to buy it eventually anyway but I did it then because I wanted to watch it again sooner and I figured it wouldn’t show up on HBO until October sometime. But now I can just watch it at no extra cost before the disc even arrives lol. Oh, the irony.

I guess I could have just bought it on streaming but the movie is worth physically owning.

They HAVE to be trolling...

I feel like Amy Adams was completely wasted as Lois in those movies. Same for Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.

Meh she was ok at best. And her performance got worse each film.

I got the DVD almost a week early today (shout out to GRUV) — I would’ve purchased a DVD+ Blu combo pack had WBD continued doing them. Like with all recent WBD DVDs, no bonus features or front loaded previews — you go straight to the main menu. (The sticker on the outer wrap claims this has an animated Krypto cartoon but that is clearly exclusive to Blu-Ray.)

- The menus are basic but functional, the main menu uses the Corenswet one sheet image with his arms crossed
- There are 16 chapter stops
- You can watch the movie dubbed in four different languages: English, English Descriptive Audio, French, Japanese (not shown on the DVD menu or packaging) and Spanish.
- Subtitles: English SDH, French, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and Spanish

I yearn for the WBD discs of yesteryear when big movies got 32-40 chapters and their bonus features weren’t exclusive to Blu-Ray.

WOW... It's been a long time since I've bought a DVD, but the bonus features used to be one of the BEST parts. I didn't know they made them Blu-ray exclusives.

When I bought Man of Steel back in 2013, you got a DVD, Blu-ray AND a digital copy, so I DEFINITELY remember that.

In a way I suppose it's pretty funny that the next time I buy a Superman movie, it would be at the start of another DC film universe.

It’s mainly a WBD and Disney thing. Universal usually puts all the same bonus features on both DVD and Blu releases.

Definitely move over at least to Blu-ray if you have the chance. It's worth it. Just to truly enjoy the cinematography of movies, which SD can't really do justice to.

Yeah I don't get people still buying DVDs. Even Bluray has pretty much become obsolete due to 4k. DVD is a dead technology.

Oh, it's the Snyder Cult. Yeah, definitely just trolling.

I didn't think Kevin Costner or Diane Lane were necessarily miscast. I was slightly put off by Lane's accent choice, but this might be the one thing where Gunn lacked by contrast though. Making the Kent's southern when they're supposed to be from Kansas.

Amy Adams was mostly miscast as Lois for me. She wasn't sassy enough. The red hair threw me off a little, but if she portrayed Lois as more tough and self-confident, an army brat, and a little bit funny, then I would have been more receptive. No disrespect to Amy Adams as a person at all, and she seems like a lovely person, but she just wasn't Lois to me at all. She would have been the perfect Lana.

I know she won an Oscar for her role in The Fighter. Personally, I felt self-conscious of her performance. In most every other role I have seen Adams in apart from Catch Me If You Can, she always just seems like Amy Adams to me, and just that 'innocent girl'.

While I think Rachel Brosnahan was definitely a great casting choice, I realize now that we didn't see much of her sassiness or humor. She was tough and played the professional reporter part well, but I don't recall her being funny.

...but someone said Nicholas Hoult was a downgrade from...Jesse Eisenberg? :ohno:...I can't understand anyone that thought that performance was good or like Lex Luthor at all. I'll just leave it there.

I still buy Blurays. I doubt I'll ever buy digital media. A few bucks to rent? Sure. But if I'm going to spend $20+ bucks on buying a movie then I want it in my hands, otherwise I'm depending on a third party to keep the movie available. And when the cable goes out that shelf of dvds is right there.☺️

As for Lex, the only time I felt any 'threat' from Hoult's Lex was when he shot that guy. In fact it's the only time in the entire movie where I felt there was any real danger being portrayed for the characters.

For me, the best theatrical Lex was Spacey, with Hackman (from the first movie) as a close second.

After doing some research, I just realized that my TV doesn't support 4K. It's only HD.

There goes my steelbook. The standard Blu-ray should still show up good, right?

I checked how the 4K version looks on HBO Max and it looks good. I was a bit suprised about the film grain. I don't remember noticing when watching in theater. Of course HDR makes it more visible. I like film grain but I'm not always sure about adding it to digitally shot movies. It worked well in The Batman.

The image was likely on the soft-ish side in the theater you've caught them, I do remember the grain being present.

Yeah, Blu-ray's still good. You'd also need to have something to play your 4K on (either a player or PS5).

Thanks, donuts!

I have my XBOX Series X, but I'll probably go ahead and stick with the standard Blu-ray.
