As we have seen in all trailers, spots and clips, and from so many rave reviews around the net, it all points out to The Dark Knight being a magnificent film, something beyond a great comic book movie or great summer blockbuster to a true masterpiece comparable to all-time classics. This is all great...
BUT...
So much rave may also generate ultra-high expectations that may be impossible for the actual movie to live up to. Even though there are some movies that are almost universally praised, we still all have our own ideas of what makes a movie go beyond good or great and become something enduring. And it´s near impossible to determine that quality when it opens, only after time has passed and the impact of the movie has been digested and it has become part of our culture and we have seen it out of its particular context in time, that we can tell how much lasting effect it possesses. A lot of classics got bad press when they were released, and some very praised movies have been forgotten. Truth is, just go to see the movie like you go to see any movie, just hoping to enjoy it for what it is and maybe for many more times. If you go thinking it has to be the new Citizen Kane or the new Godfather or whatever is your idea of a masterpiece, you may be setting yourself for disappointment, or blidning yourself to its potential flaws to then be disappointed through repeat viewing.
The other thing is, don´t get worked up if not every critic or every one of your friends, relatives, co-workers or whatever love it. Any movie has its dislikers. There are people who think Apocalypse Now is overrated, Taxi Driver is overrated, and so on. It´s just opinions, we´re all entitled to ours, and the one that should matter the most is your own.
And ENOUGH about that CHUD guy, okay?t:
