The Dark Knight The Dark Knight FAQ (Check here first)

I thought The Killing Joke was pretty tight, and if there was one thing i didn't like about Begins, it was that Batman became aware of the Joker. Through all of his incarnations, Batman was always there when the dude fell into the chemicals and actually became the joker, so is that whole scenario actually even gonna make it's way onto TDK? Are they gonna explain it like that, having Batman be there and everything, is it gonna be flashback, or are they gonna make up some new BS story not really involving Batman? Either way, I know I'm gonna go see the movie and love it ten times as much as Begins, but I really wanna know.

Sorry if this was asked, i didn't wanna look through 27 pages :P

I think they are trying for the best of both worlds.
Joker is basically the criminal mastermind we know at films start. He's already bleached and theatrical.
But he becomes disfigured in one of his early encounters with Bats, which replaces the chemical bath accident as Jokers reason for hating Bats.
He then begins to spiral into insanity.

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but will the Joker be around at all in the third film? I know TDK will feature him, while building up Dent and his transformation into Two-Face, setting the stage for Two-Face in the third; but will The Joker surface in the third or will TDK be his only appearance?

First look at the "Batpod":

30587348sv3.jpg

From BOF:
The Bat-cycle or pod will emerge from The Tumbler in a explosion. Everyone will think Batman is killed, but you'll see Batman go in the area of the Tumbler where he fires the missiles and that's where the Pod will shoot out from.” (Remember, BOF was informed and reported this a while back. It was said to be bogus info from another source of ours, but it IS TRUE!)

A Surprise Character on the Dark Knight Set!

June 21, 2007

Scooper 'typeorocks' filed this report from The Dark Knight set in Chicago, with photos, video and a spoiler on one of the characters we'll see in the film:

Here is my set report from last night (Wed) in Chicago. Lots of snipers were there early... only to see a few scenes being filmed 1 level under the rooftop set in the parking garage. The scenes were gunfire and gang members running for cover.

Also... not being filmed was a stunt double jumping from the rooftop into the level below. He had on a Batman outfit... but no cowl.

typorockstdkset1.jpg

After about 2 hours or so everyone went on break... most of the people standing around snapping pictures left. But we stayed. I hung out below and heard that Cillian [Murphy] was spotted! I tried to find him but didn't. However I did find Chris Nolan. Got his autograph on my BB DVD and a picture with him.

Around 2:30-3ish they returned to the set and started filming 2 gangs fighting with each other. Then I spotted Cillian and they filmed him yelling at the gang. The sound of gunfire blasted and everyone ran for cover. They repeated this over and over again. Here are a few pics of the gangs talking to each other. The people on the right are the Scarecrow gang. The gang on the left... I have no idea? They were all dressed nice so maybe part of the mob?

typorockstdkset2.jpg

>
typorockstdkset3.jpg

So after a few takes of that... they moved to the side of the van. I saw a Batman... It had to be a stunt double. And him and Scarecrow had a struggle and ended with the crow gassing Batman. Batman fell to the ground holding his face screaming.

They were still doing takes of that when I left...about 4am.

I also uploaded a video in addition to my set report.

The Dark Knight opens in theaters on July 18, 2008.

The Dark Knight Set Report

Source: slider_alt
June 24, 2007

Scooper 'slider_alt' checked in with word on what was filmed for The Dark Knight on Friday night (Spoilers ahead!):

Hi, I was near The Dark Knight set last night and saw a few things and received some information from one of the Police Officers who was allowed to get on the actual set, which was the parking garage at Randolph and Wells. First off, I saw director Christopher Nolan leaving a trailer in a parking area, which is also a parking area used for "The Color Purple" stage play. I also saw production crew rolling carts, one of which had two dummies resembling human beings clothed in dressy attire that looked like suits. Not long after, I saw another person roll a cart that had what looked to be a dummy of a dog. Later on that night, I saw two real dogs being taken through the doors which lead to the set. The kind police officer who was allowed into the parking garage said that they were filming the rest of the scene that appeared on your site a few days ago that involved the Scarecrow. I don't think Cillian Murphy was there though. She said that some gang (not sure whose exactly) was using dogs to attack Batman. From sitting outside of the parking garage, I could hear loud attack barking and a few times I even heard extremely loud yelling. The yelling sounded like that of Christian Bale. I'm pretty sure it had to be him and believe me, it sounded cool! I can imagine this scene looking really exciting, and not being just some regular wimpy dog attack. This part was no doubt being filmed over and over, and maybe even rehearsed a few times, because I could hear it going on in the parking garbage for at least a few hours. During this filming, I also saw multiple fake Batmans leaving trailers in "The Color Purple" parking area and being escorted by a female crew member. They had no cowl on, you could just see a black free-flowing garment covering them up and some of them wore black hoods to cover their faces. Later on the female police officer informed me that one of those men with the hoods was Bale. She even showed me and my family how to spot him by pointing out to us where his driver parked. I hope you find this information helpful. If my cheap disposable camera pictures came out clearly and I get them developed in time, maybe I can send a few pics.

Bale on The Dark Knight Progress

Source: Edward Douglas
June 26, 2007

baledkint.jpg
Superhero Hype! got a chance to talk to The Dark Knight star Christian Bale about the progress of the movie when he spent a day in New York doing press for Werner Herzog's POW drama Rescue Dawn.

We were especially interested in knowing how things were going this time, considering that they didn't have the baggage that went along with the making of Batman Begins, Bale being new to the character after the disastrous Batman & Robin, and there's far more good karma surrounding the sequel.

"It's been a lot easier because of that," he told us. "People aren't questioning, 'Are they going to do it or not?' There's been an acceptance of, 'Yes, these guys know what they're doing' and also, because we got so familiar with each other... it's now the third movie that I made with Chris (Nolan) and Michael Caine. I've gotten to know everybody. We all know how we all work. It's like my 5th movie with the D.P. It just flies along because there's no question in trying to sort of work each other out at all. We all know how we like to do it, and there's a nice shorthand between us all in terms of communication."

He also said that they do feel some pressure to try to do outdo or better the first movie, but that's necessary. "Yes, you must, you have to do that. If we're just doing the same, then what's the point? There are people who should demand that, but it does get better, so we have to do that. That would be the death knell, wouldn't it? If we all got complacent, just said, 'Oh, we just have to bang out the same thing we did before.' Sure, we use the strengths, and we're not going to discard the things that worked, but we've got to move forward as well."

Rescue Dawn opens in New York and L.A. on Wednesday, July 4, and stay tuned to ComingSoon.net for more with Bale and the rest of the cast.

Batman Returns to the Chicago Post Office

Source: Ilk
June 27, 2007

Scooper 'Ilk' wrote in about the production taking place for The Dark Knight in Chicago:

More action at the old Chicago Post Office over the past couple days.

Monday afternoon, there were a whole bunch of flatbed trucks out on the loading dock. A crew was hauling in a "Gotham Police Department" sign off one of the trucks. The style of the sign exactly matched the signs the Chicago Police use on their stations... kinda similar to how the "Gotham" license plates are an exact knockoff of Illinois plates.

Today (Tuesday) crews were putting the "Gotham National Bank" signs back up on the north entrance of the post office building. I wonder if these are for reshoots or additional scenes. There were several large lighting trucks parked out back as well.

New Dark Knight Set Report

Source: Boo-Ya4
June 27, 2007

Scooper 'Boo-Yah4' sent in this report on The Dark Knight filming in Chicago (includes some spoilers):

I have an update on filming in downtown Chicago on the new Batman movie.

They are shooting a scene on one of bridges over the Chicago river near where the new Trump building is being constructed. I haven't caught them filming any action yet, but there is a GPD swat van parked in the middle of the bridge. There's tons of GPD cop cars on the one side of the bridge I was on, blocking it off. There were also a bunch of army hummers and trucks parked on the bridge. My buddy and I walked through the extras holding area and there were tons of guys dressed as soldiers with fake guns walking around.

There was a helicopter flying over the site earlier. I unfortunately didn't have a camera at work, but if the filming is back tomorrow, I'll try and grab some shots.

Bale on The Joker and More Chicago Set Photos

June 28, 2007

MTV chatted with The Dark Knight star Christian Bale who said that Heath Ledger's take on The Joker will be darker than previous versions:

"...certainly I think that we dig a little more than the other movies did... We recognize, of course, they are cartoon characters, [but] we try to ground them in somewhat more reality than the other movies."

The Dark Knight Set Report

Source: Extra71807
June 29, 2007

Scooper 'Extra71807' sent in this spoilerish report today about what was filmed on Wednesday for The Dark Knight in Chicago:

I was an extra on the set of The Dark Knight on Wednesday the 27th. I was cast as an evacuee and we shot our first scene downtown around 9:30am as if evacuating Gotham City. We then returned to Navy Pier where we shot a scene with us evacuees boarding two large ships with tons of green screens around! We were told the green screens would be used to "build" the rest of the ships and to add in explosions cause by The Joker.

The Batman Begins sequel opens in theaters on July 18, 2008.

I have a question. Will Batman have more then 1 costume in the movie?

Was reported that the BB´s suit was spotted as well as the new suit so perhaps he will have a costume change sometime during the middle of the film

this is an important thread Batman. can everything fit into your first post? if not maybe we could do something like what we've done in the Official Picture thread (no discussions). it may be too much to ask the Mods to trim this thread down, maybe restarting a new thread?

Some of the updates have to be posted in the current page, rather the first, because the first can only hold about 20000 characters. And it's already full of the more important information for the film. We can trim a few pages, if needed...But not limit the discussion in the thread, just incase people have a few question's about the film's progression, etc.
Are the same people who wrote BB doing TDK?
The script is being written by Nolan's brother Jonathan. Based on an outline that was done by Nolan and Goyer.

Are the "leaked" pics still considered bannable/un-official? I've happened upon several sites who have posted them without so much as a second thought or disclaimer other than a spoiler warning.

The full unpdated cast (as far as I know) for anyone who is interested:

Superman, Justice League & Batman Rumblings

Source: Variety
January 3, 2008

Anne Thompson at Variety has posted some interesting things about the "Superman" franchise, new Justice League movie and third Batman pic:

Speaking of DC Comics pics, it is highly unlikely that Bryan Singer will return to shoot the next Superman movie. (The director is finishing up Tom Cruise's Nazi film Valkyrie, and prepping The Mayor of Castro Street). The next Superman we will see on the big screen will not be Brandon Routh, but a younger Superman among a cast of youthful superheroes in The Justice League. That movie will likely not be shot, however, until after the WGA strike is resolved. Warners is so happy with Dark Knight that their fondest hope is that Nolan will return to do another Batman.

While none of this is official, stay tuned for more on these projects!

Maggie Gyllenhaal on The Dark Knight

Source: Metro.co.uk
January 7, 2008

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who replaces Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, talked briefly to Metro.co.uk about the role:

Is your Batman character a damsel in distress?
There are moments of that. Chris Nolan, the director, would joke about how I had to resign myself to being a little bit of a damsel in distress but he pushed me in other ways to make her a powerful character. I play a lawyer and have real relationships with the people I'm interacting with in the movie. She's very smart and a real rounded person. Of course, if you're the girl in Batman, you're going to be a damsel in distress to some extent but she's a really great character. So many people I play are a mess; Rachel's really clear about what's important to her and unwilling to compromise her morals, which made a nice change.

The Dark Knight hits theaters on July 18.
