Goyer mentioned before that the sequel would be about Batman, Gordon, and Harvey, bringing in the Joker. Then toward the end, Joker would be the one to throw the acid. Setting up Two-Face for the third. Though it's possible that it's still likely to happen, things could easily change. Considering this was before Nolan's brother was confirmed to pen the script.

Do you have a link to back that up? The acid thing sounds like a rumor to me, just like up to a week or 2 ago people were swearing that Bettany or Hulme were getting the joker gig. If you have a link please post it.

I thought that Goyer stated that the second one would be Batman, Gordon and Dent bringing in the Joker. Then the third one would be The Joker going on trial, and also scarring Dent...

I can confirm that this was on BOF as the general treatment for the next 2 movies according to Goyer. It was in their news updates a LONG time ago though...I'll look for it later tongiht if somebody hasn't found it yet.

"The next one would have Batman enlisting the aid of Gordon and Dent in bringing down The Joker...but not killing him. In the third [movie], The Joker would go on trial, scarring Dent in the process." - David S. Goyer, BATMAN BEGINS screenwriter, 2005

Wait, is it confirmed (officially) that Penguin is the second villain?

Only Joker so far is confirmed. Although the July 31 report, which was the date Ledger was "officially" confirmed, and the sequels title was announced, was when it was stated that both Joker and Penguin would be the two main villains of the sequel.

However the latest about the role, was that there had been no confirmation on Penguin, and it was still in the midst of things if Hoffman would participate at all.

According to multiple sources, it seems that the reason for delay in "officially" announcing Ledger was The Joker was a combination of contract negotiations, scheduling, and Ledger and WB being a bit coy about the whole thing...

No confirming word as of yet about the inclusion of The Penguin and whether or not Philip Seymour Hoffman will be involved.

Thanks. Sounds interesting, thought i don't like the idea that Batman enlists their help. To me it would be more Batman-like if it was the other way round. Maybe Goyer just worded it wrong......

Whoa WHoa Whoa Whoa WHoa.................Whoah. EMily Watson as Harley Quinn. WTH!!!!! This is a rumor but come on!!!!!!!!!!!! The woman is like 50 years old!!! Harley is not that old. . Even if it is just a small cameo appearance as her just being a doctor get a blonde for gods sake. :hq:

You're welcome. Goyer isn't really known for miswording his plans. Whether it be the sequel, his new Flash project, or even the new Blade series he created. The only thing that should be noted however, was that this was before Nolan's brother was confirmed for penning the script. So there is a chance things could change.

Although, when and if there's a scene where Batman meets with Gordon, and Harvey, it should based on how they came together in TLH. Considering it's likely that the sequel will have some elements from the book, and other novels.

She's 39. That rumor was months ago, and her name could just be more "grist on the mill". Especially with Ledger now cast as Joker. But that doesn't necessarily mean the character won't be included. And if she isn't, there's plenty of room in the third. Harley, including Talia, Jerimiah Arkham, Black Mask/Roman Sionis, and Leslie Thompkins, are so far the characters being speculated. No confirmation.

From what comic is this?

So we know Joker is in the film. How do we know that another villain will be included. Batman is going to have a tough enough time dealing with just the Joker.

Will Talia be in this film?

The only rumor of her appearence, was when Rachel Wiesz was rumored to be attached to the role. Nothing more. There hasn't been anything on Talia being in the sequel since then.

Currently, these are the villains being speculated.

Black Mask/Roman Sionis (unconfirmed/rumored)
Talia Al Ghul (unconfirmed/rumored)
Dr. Harleen Quinzel (unconfirmed/rumored)
Dr. Jeremiah Arkham (unconfirmed/rumored)
Salvatore Maroni (unconfirmed/rumored)
The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot (confirmed)

It's been said already that Nolan and co. have a few tricks up their sleeves. That it's likely there will be more then one villain. The Penguin was confirmed along with Ledger as Joker, and the sequel's title. But the latest report about the role, is that there hasn't been any real confirmation.

First page updated with Bale's words on Ledger. Great interview. It's nice to see he's confident with the choice.

Hm, I really don't see a need for these particular villains. Jack Nicholson and Tommy-Lee Jones did the Joker and Two-Face perfectly. I think I'd rather see some new Batman villains; God knows he's got enough so they can't be running low.

Penguin hasn't been confirmed. Just cuz Jett says it's confirmed doesn't mean it really is, I think he throws that word around too much. Confirmed means WB comes out and says it, not one of Jett's inside sources. Besides, wasn't it the same source who told Jett that Ledger might not sign, hours before the press release was issued?

I may not be a fan of Nicholson's portrayal, but I know he has his fans and I can see why they like him... but are you freakin' serious about Two-Face? I find it hard to believe anyone could find anything good about Tommy Lee Jones god-awful portrayal of what was supposed to be such a tragic villain. Two-Face damn well deserves to be done justice on film, a film where he's not laughing like an idiot and re-flipping his coin to get a desired outcome (that's just offensive).

And Batman may have a lot of villains, but i'd say they just about used up all the good cinematic villains. Who would you have for a sequel? Clayface and Manbat? Firefly and Maxie Zeus? How about throwing Mad Hatter in there?

I just never got why DC movies changed actors for the same role so often(Batman and Superman specifically). I'd rather one person play a character, you know.....like a normal movie franchise. We know hoe Keaton killed Nicholson so this new plot is almost redundant. I agree that Two-Face could have been better, but the movie's over. I'd rather move on that re-do it.

What's wrong with a villain like Clayface or Manbat? I wanna see Bruce fight. I loved when Batman fought Bane. When they pit Batman against people like The Riddler and The Penguin, it doesn't exactly make for an "exciting" fight scene.

I sure would have loved that logic pre-2005.

"Batman could have been better, but the movies are over. I'd rather move on than re-do it."

:O

Well this was a prequel to the first Batman, more so than a re-doing. He'd never fought Scarecrow before so it was new and fresh. But as far as I'm concerned Nicholson is Joker and Lee Jones is Two-Face. The moment has passed.

Ok, I stopped reading here.

If by the end of BB you didn't realize this was a reboot to the franchise and had nothing to do with previous movies...then you are going down a path I cannot follow. :o
