The Amazing Spider-Man The Dark Knight "Problem"

I'm not sure if Gwen does indeed die if I want it to be at the hands of the goblin due to the fact that I'm sick of Goblins and they've had an overbearing stance in Raimi's movies. I would like to see a different approach just as long it's engaging and well written. I dont want another set of movies that are Goblin-heavy.

I'd rather not see any of the villains from Raimi's movies in the reboot. All of their performances were so good (yes, I liked Topher as Eddie/Venom. Sue me) that I don't really think they can be topped. Topher as Venom, maybe, but Willem as Gobby and Alfred as Ock? Forget it.

I disagree. Don't get me wrong, Dafoe and Molina were pitch perfect, but there's always another way to portray a character, and excel at it. That's one thing that Batman fans have seen, that Spider-Man fans really haven't. We've seen Michael Keaton, Kevin Conroy, Christian Bale all play near-definitive versions of the same character. All incredibly good, but all different in their own way.

Gwen has to die at the hands of Green Goblin...WTF dood:huh::dry:

Actually, I agree with both Angle and Ajendo.

I don’t know if I want to see Gwen die in the new trilogy. I want to wait and see how likable Gwen is, because I’m not sure I want to see MJ again.

I am also tired of the Goblins, I don’t want to see harry or Norman in the new trilogy at all in truth. I absolutely do not want to see the same villains in the new continuity. Let’s see new story lines from the comics.

I don't think TDK makes it unable to be done. By this logic, we can never kill a superhero's love interest ever again, and that is pretty stupid logic. Gwen's death is different from Rachel's. Has different meaning and would be done differently. I don't see an issue other than Sony maybe not wanting something that dark to happen.

I thought you were going with the Joker example

Harry's almost certainly going to be in. He's Peter's best friend. You can't ignore him. That doesn't mean there's going to be a Goblin story, but Harry's too important of a person in Peter's life to ignore.

TDK is a bigger problem when it comes to Gwen's father. They're going to have a hard time not to make him seem like a Gordon rip off.

Since, he essentially is. Ha.

The thread should be renamed The Batman Problem because if that leaked script is real, Spider-Man seems more like Batman.

Yes it seems more like Nolan's batman films in that, it's taking a more mature approach to conveying the story. As for Goblin killing Gwen, sure, naturally that would be ideal but its all about writing and execution. If Norman does become the goblin, then I want a focus on a simmering build up of Norman and in the last movie have him kill off Gwen in spectacular fashion but any how it happens in this movie, I'd be pissed. It's either that or I'm content with a change in how Gwen dies, just so long as it's handled wonderfully. I'm all for change, heck I didn't have a problem with any of Raimi's changes, the problem was, that they were horribly executed.

Woah. This is still Spider-Man, not the Saw franchise.

Why not? Great storyline in the comics, and should be in the movie.
Not that I'm saying they shouldn't put it in the movie, but I see Future's point; that type of thing rarely plays well with the general audience. It seems as though the masses aren't intelligent enough to understand the complexities of that happening. Whereas it's a tragic but ultimately impossible attempt to save Gwen by Spider-Man to us, to the masses it would be little more than "SPIDER-MAN KILLED HER!!?!?!"

Not saying everyone who's not a comic book fan would think that - far from it. But to quote Men in Black; a person is smart, people are stupid.

^^ Then it would come as a surprise to the general audience. Gwens death played a huge part in the Spider-Man mythos, so it's bound to happen either way. As for when, I don't see it happening until towards the end of the second film.

I just meant that you might have a lot kiddies bawling that Spidey accidently snapped the neck of his girlfriend. It's a little too dark.

And that right there is the problem. These movies need to ignore what the kiddies might think. Balls to walls maturity is what we need here. TLOTR and HP movies do it, BB and TDK did it, spider-man can and should do it.

Agh. When kids are thrown into the equation it's never a good thing.
