It's really sad that the final domestic gross of DP will not beat Endgame's first Saturday 109m. It might not even beat its Friday 96m or Sunday 90m. And it's ww gross is definitely not touching Endgame opening weekend 357m. The Xmen reserves better and I hope they get it when marvel reboots.

Dark Phoenix's China box office opening numbers.

The only positive is that unlike in the USA the film debuted at #1 but to slightly lesser numbers than its domestic numbers. It also has mixed reactions from Chinese audiences which means it likely won't have any strong holdovers in the region and will experience a very steep drop similar to what will inevitably happen domestically(though to be fair X-Men moves have never been very leggy domestically).

I'm not a shareholder of any Studio. I don't care how much money a movie makes. I only care for them to get a sequel if they're good.

I loved Dark Phoenix, I'd love a sequel. That's pretty much it for me.
And that's pretty much a wrap for the franchise-- glad you like it, even more glad you won't be getting your sequel wishes. Time to stick a fork in it and REBOOT. MCU dreams and caviar wishes!!

What doomed this film.

The constant release date shifting. Underwhelming trailers. Bad buzz going in, with every leak and rumor being negative about the movie. The fact that we know Disney bought Fox, which means Marvel were going to take over and reboot the X-Men for the MCU no matter how good or bad this movie was or what it made at the box office, which made the movie look like a lame duck.

And finally... the reviews and RT score.

At least its all over now. Hopefully better and bigger things are ahead for X-Men.

Ten Reasons 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' Is A Galactus-Sized Box Office Disaster

In normal circumstances, I would probably say somewhere between $450 million and $550 million based on previous films and especially the performance of Apocalypse as a lead in.

However, if it does end up getting announced that Marvel is getting the rights back and this is a lame duck franchise about to be rebooted the second credits roll, then I think the box office could totally collapse, especially domestically. Maybe half of what it would otherwise get. It would destroy interest in this film, which is rather tepid to begin with.

This is the first thing I posted in this thread back in 2017 and it seems to have been completely correct.

It's pretty simple...

Audiences literally just got treated to THE pinnacle of big superhero team event movies.

Why the hell would the average cinema goer go to watch this after watching Endgame a month ago?

I'm pretty certain that even if this film got rave reviews itd still under perform. No one gives a **** about this iteration of the X-Men anymore. Not when you've got films like Endgame around.

Days of future past was the crown jewel peek of X-men, with Logan being the bittersweet finale for Charles Xavier and Wolverine.

I look forward to seeing what Marvel Studios will do down the road with The X-men, I'm sure whatever they do it will be much more faithful to the source material.

They might want to treat Dark Phoenix as a palate cleanser. :o

A 2-week old film is beating Dark Phoenix's 3rd day. This would be so embarrassing if it wasn't funny.

The X-Women line really hurt the movie. I really hope they cut that line in the home version of the movie.
