The Director of THOR 3

Well hopefully he gets rid of the human characters (except Selvig unless he goes insane again).

I don't know much about this director. It seems his recent movies are a little closer to what a Thor movie should be than his earlier work (that doesn't say much). It kills the chance of Guillermo del Toro directing, though, who would have been perfect.

He's not perfect at all if he has no interest in making a Thor film.

Well, I just finished watching Eagle vs. Shark (available on Netflix streaming). It's pretty quirky, very much a Kiwi Napoleon Dynamite, and doesn't really give any indication of what Waititi's Thor will be like. I didn't like it as much as Flight of the Conchords, which is the only thing of his I'd seen up till now, and which I liked.

Has anyone seen Boy? It's also on Netflix instant, and I might watch it soon.

If you hate the human characters so much, then why do you think Selvig should be the only one who is kept in the franchise? Selvig is easily one of the most useless characters in the MCU. He did nothing of any worth in the first Thor movie, was a complete liability in both Avengers and TDW and had no impact on AoU. Funny how people always accuse Jane of being the "damsel in distress" of these movies. And yet, when you look at the films themselves, its pretty obvious that Selvig is the biggest damsel there is...

Interesting choice by Marvel. Not interesting from what I've seen of Waititi, as I haven't seen anything yet, but it's interesting that they keep going out to find fairly unknown directors as it shows that they are looking much into the vision that the director has for the particular movie, rather than just going with names.

And after seeing what the Russo's did with TWS I will never judge any director chosen by the body of his or her previous work. There was absolutely nothing in the Russo's past work that could make me realize what they were about to give us.

It is nice hearing some people liking a movie that Waititi has done though.

Lol, that was my reaction too

They got themselves a director who isn't a White Man!
Does that really matter at all? Not trying to troll. If he has a strong vision for Thor then he is a good choice. His skin color/gender should have no influence on his selection.

I watched Waititi's Boy today as well. I liked it more than Eagle vs. Shark. It had a strong emotional core to it. Of course, it was also very indy, so it doesn't really tell me much about what he might do with Thor. At least now I have a stronger sense for the guy. I think as long as he has a good story to tell, he will bring a lot of heart to the movie.

Yes it does, for multiple reasons:

1. Unless I missed something, ALL of the MCU film directors thus far have been White guys.
2. This argument about "vision matters, not skin color" ONLY ever comes up when people suggest a non-White guy to direct. When it is a White guy, that argument never gets floated.
3. There's no reason why you cannot find a non-White director who also has a "strong vision" for a character, if you try. And that's the thing with major studio tentpoles, they often don't put forth much effort in that regard it seems.

1. Jane and Darcy did nothing of any real worth in the first Thor either.
2. It was Selvig who put in a "failsafe" to close the portal in TA, and showed BW how to do it.
3. He was NOT a liability in TDW, certainly no more than Jane was.
4. He's just a lot more enjoyable than Jane or Darcy, because they don't try and forced a lot of lame comedy with his character.
5. "Biggest damsel there is?" No, no he's not.

Aside from Jane actually believing Thor 's story (unlike Selvig) and therefore helping him get over the trauma of Odin's (supposed) death, I guess you're right. All Selvig did was get drunk.

2. It was Selvig who put in a "failsafe" to close the portal in TA, and showed BW how to do it.

He still helped Loki launch an alien invasion that killed hundreds of people and (indirectly) led to HYDRA's resurfacing in the form of the Insight Carriers and Strucker.

3. He was NOT a liability in TDW, certainly no more than Jane was.

Well, considering he spent most of the movie in the custody of the Metropolitan Police, I don't see where you're coming from here. Also, it was Jane who figured out Malekith's plan and she was the one who used their tech to teleport the Elves away during the final battle, not Selvig.

4. He's just a lot more enjoyable than Jane or Darcy, because they don't try and forced a lot of lame comedy with his character.

Aside from the nude scene at Stonehenge, and the rest of the movie where he (supposedly) works better without pants, you're right... Also, can you please cite one example of "lame comedy" with Jane in either of the Thor movies? Darcy I'll give you, but there really hasn't with Jane TBH.

The Biggest damsel there is?" No, no he's not.

The movies themselves prove you to be wrong.

Technically, Marvel hired Patty Jenkins for Thor 2. Obviously, she left before filming (which technically could happen here). So I guess this would be news worth celebrating once this movie actually starts filming.

LOL - Good point.

It should not - the best person for the job should be all that matters - seems a bit sexist and/or racists otherwise...

Well, his last name was. Literally.
Shane Black.

I only know this guy from being the painfully unfunny sidekick in Green Lantern. Guess I shouldn't really hold that against him. If Marvel trusts him, I'm cool with it.

Same here. Just glad forward progress is being made.

Me too. I'm really happy they have someone and they can start putting the pieces in place. I did just watch two other features from this director, but I wouldn't say that that's necessary viewing for anyone... they are both really small scale/indy, and won't really shed much light on the subject.

So I will just continue to have faith in Marvel on this one. :)

check out WWDITS, thank me later

can I text her instead?
I don't have her number lol I can't text her myself because I don't have an international plan. I DID however leave her a message on instant messenger. She sees that more often than mail

Terminator Genisys proved that Alan Taylor is a worthless hack. I honestly believe that Marvel saved us from something far worse with TDW by "interfering" with Taylor's vision.

:cwink: Seems the audience disagrees..
TG has made over 440 Million WW and the TDW grossed over 644 Million..
So Taylor has joined the Billion Dollar club of Directors...
Hack does not apply in his case....

I've heard nothing but good things about What We Do In The Shadows. I'll be checking it out soon.

This looks like a similar case to John Watts and Cop Car (which I absolutely adored) but Waititi seems to be a little more experienced. So, I guess Jemaine Clement will be playing Surtur, then? :)
