Some posters don't want a too big age difference between Reed and Doom. I became very much aware of that when I suggested Johnny Depp

But still... there are some early 60s'ers who have the acting chops to pull off a villain like Doom:
Other than Depp, it's also Jeremy Northam and Jason Isaacs.

Clive Owen has been mentioned too and he can be really imposing if he wants to.

You could have Reed and Doom be about the same age, but you wouldn't necessarily need the actors to be the same age. Especially if Doom is going to keep his mask on for a change, then they would just need a voice actor mainly. They could de-age him for pre-accident scenes, or even use a different actor.

Like I said in other thread, I think Driver better fits Doom and of all the names to come up for him thus far, he is the only age appropriate choice who I think has the gravitas to be Doom. Dude is a world class actor

I'd actually be more intrigued with him playing Reed than Doom.

After seeing Marriage Story, which he was phenomenal in, I think he could totally pull off a Reed who might get caught up in his work ,and his own genius, which could lead to tensions with Sue and the other team mates.

I could see him coming off as arrogant but really having a vulnerable side to him , which is what he showed in Marriage Story.

So for me at least, I would be very interested to see him pull off a character like Reed Richards more than Doom.

That said, If he played Doom, I would be on board with it and I wouldn't complain at all.
He 's one of those type of actors who could play both roles very well imo.

I’m really not a fan of him as Doom (or Reed).

Good actor, yes, but the minute he takes the mask off and stops using the voice distorter in Star Wars, he just becomes a dweeby kid.

i want someone with bolder stage presence - who demands attention with his voice and delivery without the help of electronics.

I thought it worked in Star Wars - because he was a kid playing dress-up and pretending to be his grandfather, but Doom needs to be the real deal.

Have you seen other films he has been in Willie? If you haven't seen Marriage Story, I would highly recommend watching that movie. Kylo being a dweeb was definitely not Driver's fault. That was character design. I have zero doubt he can handle Doom.

Clive Owen sounds cockney. I don't want a cockney Doom who sounds like he lives in the east end of London.

Adam Driver still looks dweeby even in other films even if he isn't acting the same as in Star Wars. I think his physical look also has to be intimidating.

Maybe they can take the Darth Vader approach and have someone play the physical part of Doom and someone else do the voice.

Frank Langella as Skeletor had a very theatrical voice full of gravitas. That's something I'd like Doom to have.

I loved his performance in Marriage Story, and that's my favorite film of his to date.

It's a great film and he and Scarlett are really great in the film.

The torture of this is if Doom does show up in WF and they nail his look etc BUT it's just a stand in, since I assume he will probably have no dialogue in the mid credit/post credit sequence , then the wait continues and the speculation goes on and on as to who finally becomes our favorite Latverian ruler

I don’t think I’ve seen that one, but I’ve seen him in other roles, and while he is a very good actor, I’ve just never seen him in anything that gives me confidence he can play Doom.

Well there will always be new developments and questions: “What film will he appear in next? Will he be in FF? Will they overuse him? What role will he play in Secret Wars?” Etc. Etc. Etc.

… but once we actually see him and he becomes a player in the MCU, that will be HUGE.

Yeah, agreed. Will be massive just to get visual confirmation of him being in the MCU. The discussion can move along a fair bit after that. For now we know very little and most discussion is totally theoretical.

Thanks Frodo !! I’m at least entertaining the possibility for Adam driver!! Maybe I just might look for marriage story and watch that it could have me changing my mind

Of course you're right. Why didn't I think of that
So there's simply no excuse to NOT look at actors around Depp's age (examples are Northam, Owen and Isaacs). Some of them have the skills to pull off a villain like Doom
