Comics The elephant in the room.

(Back for the my week vacation in the Adirondacks!!...let's see...what did I miss...so much reading to do....)

Wow.

Ok, yes, OMD/BND is a reboot as bad if not worse than Clone Saga, ruining continuity and making me hate the character for thee first time in my life....(Clone Saga made me not like the direction and writers, OMD/BND makes me not like Pete, who is no longer heroic or a role model) and this entire alternate history where they never married and the devil created a new world...i am still not buying it, literally or figuratively....

Nice to see Captivated on here! Long time no see!

Bought a bunch of TPB's & read on vacation...sadly...no spider-man ones since 616 Spider-Man currently isn't appearing in any marvel comics...

Hahahahaa... :woot:

Glad your back from vacation... I missed lines like that one... :woot:

Hope it was good for you and yours...

:yay:

^ I just got back from 2 weeks in Moscow

There's nothing better than 3 weeks of comics waiting for you at the shop (except they made a big thud when I went to pay. The girl behind the counter actually obliged my request to not know the total, and covered up my credit card receipt while I signed....)

I thought you got your comics via subscription?

Congrats on the trip... hope it was a blast...

It was awesome. Since my girlfriend grew up there, her daughter and I got a personalized tour of the city that you would never get on a tour bus.

About half my stuff was subs at one time, but I've let them expire (I probably have 5 titles subbed right now). For some reason, they've started showing up really late. I'll probably re-up a bunch for the savings despite the lag (but it's something Marvel really should work on...)

Yeah, I have been hearing a lot of Marvel subscribers getting their books late now. I was going to get the Amazing Spider-Man subscription because sometimes that's the only book I get some weeks but once my one comic friend told me he was getting them almost a week late I decided not to.

I need my comic fixes as soon as possible. Comic books are my crack, man.

Truthfully, it's not getting them late that bothers me so much. But I have so many subs sometimes, I forget which ones I'm subbed to, and when they're late, I go and buy them. And then get them in the mail a few days later. At $4 a pop, I don't really need a second copy.

It's been two whole years since Spider-Man's continuing adventures essentially and effectively ceased with "One More Day."
Since that time The character of Peter Parker the Amazing Spider-Man essenitally remains in a perpetually arrested state, or or more accurately a regressed static state.
Mary Jane found herself placed in Gail Simone's infamous refrigirator.
Spider-Man made a deal with the devil while Nick Fury and Logan aren't allowed to smoke.
This was two years ago, but the wounds of this incident still weep fresh.
I am still very much enraged at the fiascos of OMD and the continuing BND, my rage builds upon itself like a sword being forged by a blacksmith.
Who is to blame for Spider-Man's defeat at the hands of cosmic evil?
Not Joe Quesada, Joe Quesada a merely a conduit for the masses- he merely gives the people what they want.
I blame you, all of you. I have started to hate all geeks and fanboys.

It was you who Killed James Bond, burried Jason, put Freddy to bed, and sent Michael Myers home. You all cheer at Comic-Con with every proclaimation of forthcoming blasphemey upon our culture.
You turned Sci-Fi to SyFy, and made G4 a sad clone of MTV. You wanted to be so cool with your Xbox Parties and your Red-bull that you destroyed geekdom. I am no longer a geek- I have become a reaction to your cultural artistic defamation.
Spider-Man is dead you killed him.

Look at my sig. I obviously don't think you're that crazy. A little crazy, but not THAT crazy.

Wow!!

VanillaClonesy and I were out Vacationing, me in the Adirondacks, him in IceIceMoscow.....at the SAME TIME...!!

Conspiracy???

Fate??

(i found a real neato comic store up there, and bought quite the stack of comic books, and some TPB's too!..oy...vacation was expensive!!! Got some recent Savage Dragons and Batmans....as for TPB's...got Thor Volume 2 which had #600 included in that....and Trinity...still reading that one...and some GI JOE CLASSICS.)

Oh.....TMOB....i must be honest, since i always am....i did pick up another variant of Alternate Spider-Man #600, the only issue I've bought so far, besides the NWTD TPB, despite the fact that 616 Spidey-Man isn't appearing currently in any Marvel comics. :oldrazz: Glad to be back and typing to ya guys again! :cwink:

Right. And I'm sitting next to Tyler Durden right now. We're totally two people.

This whole thread should be locked or deleted. And you should be put on some kind of medication. :yay:

Don't blame me. I stopped reading with OMD and have only paid for 1 Spider-Man comic since (#600 to see what direction and shape the title was in) Sad to say that I agree 100% that Spider-Man is dead or at least floundering dormant. I miss reading Amazing but I've moved on. When I say I'm boycotting a title, I mean it. I refuse to reward crap and I have the conviction to back it up.

You should really read the rest of the thread. WrathofGod is a troll and you shouldn't take stuff so personally on a message board. :oldrazz:

That word is so overused it doesn't even mean anything anymore.

No I take it back. I'm pretty sure it means that you don't want to debate the points someone has made so you call them that to dismiss them. It's a dismissive term.

Are you trying to say that the word "the" is meaningless?

No its because hes bringing up other crap that has nothing at all to do with Spider-Man.

You should give it a try.

I disagree. I've been loving Spidey's continuing adventures moreso NOW than in the last 22 years, barring a few gems in that period.

Since that time The character of Peter Parker the Amazing Spider-Man essenitally remains in a perpetually arrested state, or or more accurately a regressed static state.

I've seen some growth... as recent as "American Son" as well as in ASM #600... I forget, do you even read the books?

Mary Jane found herself placed in Gail Simone's infamous refrigirator.

Really? That must have been a clone that we saw in ASM #560/561 & in ASM #600 and onward... one who still remembers Spider-Man's identity to boot.

Spider-Man made a deal with the devil while Nick Fury and Logan aren't allowed to smoke.

No question that OMD was a poorly executed story with pretty pictures.
However, as EIC of Marvel, as well as having a father who died of lung cancer, I can understand JQ's "no smoking" policy. Do I agree with it? Not necessarily... but I haven't had any close ones die of lung cancer, now have I?

This was two years ago, but the wounds of this incident still weep fresh.

See a doctor... :whatever:

I am still very much enraged at the fiascos of OMD and the continuing BND, my rage builds upon itself like a sword being forged by a blacksmith.

Again... see a doctor. :yay:

Who is to blame for Spider-Man's defeat at the hands of cosmic evil?

Uhmmm.... Marvel's continual attempts to create change to their characters rather than have them go through stagnant situations month after month after month after month after month after month....

Not Joe Quesada, Joe Quesada a merely a conduit for the masses- he merely gives the people what they want.

Of course it was all of us, including yourself, that got us where we are today... because in some small form or another, we ALL take part in creating a system...

Not all fans "embraced" reboots and change... I still remember a few angry DC fans who didn't like Crisis back in 1985... and maybe if YOU had encouraged your friends to go to all those movies PRIOR to the studios deciding to revamp/reboot/rechange, maybe those extra bucks might have kept those franchises alive... but YOU live in a system that is monetary driven, so if the aforementioned franchises cannot keep themselves alive in a financial sense (thanks to your lack of involvement, perhaps? as well as many others), then you cannot blame the studios and recording companies and comic book companies for trying to do something to stir up enough interest to keep the readers buying...

It's easy to point the finger at somebody else, but why not take a GOOD HARD look in the mirror before doing so... you might not like what you see, but maybe it'll offer enough insight to create change.

Spider-Man is dead you killed him.

I disagree. Spider-Man is very much alive to me.

You'll say I'm crazy, but I am not the one who plays viral marketing games for the reward of Button pins and fake newspapers.

I may have no life, but your life is merely someone elses marketing ploy- you are simply extras.

I have no idea what the hell you just said up there, so I would assume that I take no part in that first paragraph... and you're right... we all have NO lives... not because we're comic book nerds, but because our lives as a whole are meaningless and only serve one purpose... the propagation of our species... our lives are like comic book mini-series... the last page of the last book is our death, and every word that's in between is just a waste of breath... I am no better than you, nor are you any better than me... but what we choose to do with ourselves during that "waste of breath" time can make a difference... you don't like the system YOU helped create... then help incite change... and real change always comes from within.

Mike

Aloha,
Many years ago on these boards, I wrote about the fact that the comic book industry could no longer sustain itself on the traditional fan boy.Times have/are changing, I wish you and several on these boards like you, nothing but the best in finding your way in this changing world.
