I knew there was a reason I didn't like Ikaris.

I would say that both Black Widow and Shang Chi had strong first 2 acts and a weaker third, the Eternals were the opposite. The first act was incredibly weak, in particular the dialog. I only enjoyed the scenes with Sersi and Dane in that first act.

Frankly, everything people saying about this being Marvels Justice League 2017 were right. The characters were under-cooked, I felt no chemistry with Ikaris and Sersi and Richard Madden had one facial expression and no emoting for most of the film, until his last scene with Sersi. Maybe that was an conscious choice for the character given how long he knew the truth.

Again, the dialog for this film was really huge weakness. I really did not like the script.

The final battle was good, was character driven and worked for me, like I said, much better then Shang Chi and Black Widow.

The absolute highlight of the film was Kingo and his valet, that interaction was golden and I really liked Gilgamesh.

This is not an Oscar level movie for me, not by a long shot.

Got to say, seeing a Celestial materialize besides Earth and loom so large on the horizon (not to mention seeing that other Celestial start to come out from the Core) was the first time I truly felt like I was watching a Comic book come to life. Everything so far has been actors in costumes for me, but this was seeing a being bigger then my planet. Marvel finally felt cosmic to me. I never felt that, even with Thor and Asgard or Thanos or Guardians.

I am liking that with Wandavision, Shang Chi and Eternals, Marvel has stopped trying to be grounded and embraced the fantastical side of comics.

For me, that genesis was Doctor Strange.

Watched this today and enjoyed it I look forward to seeing more of the Eternals in any capacity.

I am definitely interested to see where the future of this franchise will go considering how it ended I wouldn’t mind it being turned into a Disney + show

This so much. I loved everything about the Celestials, I hope we get more of them in the sequel or other franchise.

Unpopular opinion (maybe?) but I found the Celestials (or really, the Celestial since we only got to hear from one of them) one of the more disappointing aspects of this. Arishem doesn’t have a personality, he’s just a giant exposition dump. The others are only seen for a couple seconds. They honestly didn’t seem to know what to do with them other than make them MacGuffins. Are they villains? Allies? Gods? Their motivations aren’t even clear given how things wrap up with Tiamet (was that it’s name?). Maybe that’s how the Celestials are in the comics I don’t know.

I think that largely depends on weather or not the Celestials will have a "Thanos" type role in future movies. He was mostly a non-entity to me until Infinity War and Endgame. Also, they are basically Gods - creators and destroyers. Expecting much "personality" from them is maybe asking for too much. I think the point of Eternals was that everyone is a hero in their own story, but can be a villain in someone-else's. Maybe Tiamet's death will have huge repercussions for the universe.

I may see this again. It strikes me as a movie I might like more, or less, after a second viewing. It wasn't standard fare, and it lagged at times, but I rather liked it.

I was hoping for a Disney plus Day announcement, that it’ll be released 22/12 on the platform. The 45 days window ends 20/12.
Perfect Christmas release

I saw two clips of Phastos kissing his husband on Youtube, both heavily downvoted...

I also saw on last week's Blerds'n Da Hood episode Jay Washington mentioning that Tyrone Magnus (Jay really doesn't appreciate him) felt uncomfortable or something during that scene, which really confirms that he fits well with the Geeks + Gamers crowd.

I never understood the complaints on the same sex relationship for Phastos. These guys are literally alien gods, so their perception of sexuality and gender identity is probably the most neutral as can be, and far removed from our own. Phastos just happened to fall in love with a human who was male. It could have easily been a female as well. That's what happens when people project their own human bias onto characters who are literal alien (robot) gods.

I also thought it was appropriate because, presumably, Eternals can't reproduce with humans (if they can reproduce at all) so adoption makes sense. In that context, a same-sex couple where adoption is the default also makes sense.

Also, the Eternals have been with human civilization for 7000 years. That includes *wildly* diverging attitudes towards sex and sexuality. It would frankly be kind of weird if they all just happened to subscribe to post-Christianity sexual mores, given they predate Christianity by 5000 years. Doubly so if you take Phaestos' name and implied connection to pre-classical/mythic Greek culture seriously.

of all the things for people to find controversial
not the sex scene in the desert sand
not the perpetual child in-love with a grown man
not the advocation of Thano's genocide
not the depiction of the Avanger's as the villains (for bring those life's back)
not the dismissal of God and theory of creation

I'll never understand people (are we sure they even did the right thing in saving earth?)
