The Evil Within: Some May Call It an Evil that is Resident

It seems one thing that reviews and impressions from those who managed to get early copies is that even the final build of the title has some dips in framerate. Super disappointing, if accurate. Weird, too, Mikami's games are usually pretty optimized. I don't remember any drops from Vanquish, and there was a ton of **** on the screen pretty much at all times.

I don't know much about it, but apparently a lot of developers have had issues with this idTech 4 (or 5?) engine that TEW is using. I don't know, maybe that was the problem here. Also reading there's been talk of a day one patch, but I've not read any official press on that.

So, does that pretty much make the game 60 fps for PC, or am I misunderstanding what you're saying there? If so, I hope that will actually prompt those people which it was such a huge issue to check the game out after all.

So basically the only way 60fps is on PC. So if that matters so much to people, get a good PC and run the game on PC.

A little longer than a quick look. That's over two chapters of gameplay clocking in at over an hour.

Kind of. There are still some stuttering issues even on powerful PCs. So there's some bugs. It's now up to modders or Bethesda themselves to fix these issues

It's not that simple yet.

Exactly, there is nothing simple about this 60fps business, yet it has become this gigantic rigmarole that people cannot shut up about it. People start lawsuits over it. Its ridiculous.

Honestly, I hate 60 FPS. I think the movements and everything just look so unnatural.

He has had a really small team this time around. I think that might be a part of the problem, though it seems the day 1 patch will help.

I picked it up at Best Buy, and I'm not sure if it was just a local deal or not, but I got a $10 GC when I bought it. I had no idea about it, so you may wanna look into that if you're thinking about buying it.

I'll be playing it later tonight and the rest of the week.

Got mine just after work, and it's installing on my One now. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised this is reviewing as well as it is. I really had it pegged as another God Hand situation with how early impressions sounded. And that reversible cover, so good.

The negative things I'm hearing is the frame rate is 30fps(which I knew going in), some textures popping in and out(which seems to happen with most games nowadays), and there's black bars on the top and bottom that you can't turn off. So for the most part, I'm fine with those, as long as there isn't that much screen tear/pop in textures.

The only thing that bothers me with the framerate issues is that it apparently does have dips (being 30 fps is no issue for me). Not heard much about how much the day one patch does or doesn't address this. The black bar thing is sort of strange, but RE4 did the same thing, and I stopped noticing it almost immediately.

The game seems to be off to a good start, from just my lone retail experience. I sold out of all my PS4 and 360 copies today. Now granted I didnt get in nearly as many copies of the game compared to say Borderlands, but still I had a good number of reserves on the game and as I stated most of my 'extra' copies were sold out by around 4pm.

Im deff gonna get the game, just a matter of when. Maybe after my next paycheck.

does this harken back to the original Resident Evil games?

true survival horror??

Reversible covers were great. I wish it was a standard thing.

Ditto.

Is it "true survival horror"? I would say yes, absolutely. Does it really harken back to the the original RE? No, not really. I just finished Chapter 3, and outside the lack of ammo, it really doesn't feel much of anything like that. Stealth plays a pretty huge part in it, for instance, which took me off guard since the first section you play is pretty much pure stealth and nothing else.

If anything, it feels much more like Silent Hill with a sprinkling of RE4, but only a sprinkling. But I wouldn't really mark it as an homage or pastiche of previous games; it really is its own thing.

ah. ok. thanks.

It definitely looks great, and I wasn't sure it would be that well reviewed at first. I wasn't that interested until a few months back, because I thought it would be a grittier RE 5. But it seems it's more of a traditionnal survival horror.

Depends a lot of what your definition of traditional is. Thus far, it's definitely not the action horror (or whatever you want to call it) that the later RE games have been, but there's a huge focus on actual stealth, more like modern horror games like Outlast and Alien Isolation. It's not as extreme, you have weapons, but there are times where you are basically forced to sneak, because of the low amount of ammo you're given.

It's also pretty hard as balls, too. I'll give some more in-depth thoughts later.

what I call traditionnal would be a game with a constant sense of dread, where you'really on the edge, frightened of the encounters with your enemies, instead of killing them by dozens.

Can't wait to read more of your thoughts!
