The Evil Within: Some May Call It an Evil that is Resident

Yeah, they didn't really fly well with me either. But I think he could always kind of tell that he wasn't really in "reality". And then you find out that you're in a fantasy world conjured up by the main baddie. Like I said in a different post, the game is just all sorts of confusing in my opinion. There are a lot of things they don't touch on and I'm not sure why?

I collected most of the documents and the story just kind of seems to lose itself do to trying to be too "intricate". Still, I guess there is DLC that expands on the story? I haven't had the chance to check it out though.
A game needing DLC in order to fix or understand the story is disappointing.

A lot of the environments seem to be some of the better ones from Resident Evil 4...which I'm liking. The story angle reminds me of an older version of Resident Evil 4, where Leon was infected, suffering from hallucinations and the player would have a hard time distinguishing reality from virus-tinged dream.

Digital Foundry labeled the game as virtually unplayable before the first download patch :(

The DLC is not out yet, it's part of the season pass, which includes two story chapters where you play as Kidman (I think that's her name) and some type of non-story related thing where you play as the keeper. It's in the OP.

Oh, good catch. That really hadn't occurred to me.

It's patched now, so I don't think it matters much.

I've been watching a Let's play of the first few chapters and I'm liking it a lot.

I just watched a few gameplay videos, since I don't want to be spoiled, but it does seem to have a great atmosphere.

I kinda want to see where it goes but I also want to pick it up sometime in the future.

I will ask this game for christmas. SO I don't want to see where it goes for now ^^

Bethesda has officially announced that they will mod the PC version for a more stable 60fps and removing the black bars - they will test some changes over the next few days.

Good to see official support - some user-mods are already available to remove the black bars if someone doesn't like it, and also change the FOV (field of view) so the camera's not as close to you,

Yea I am liking the game but I am not crazy about it. The opening chapters 1-3 weren't the greatest and I nearly returned or traded in the game. Currently, I am on chapter 7 fighting the Keeper and the game is better now. I still think Resident Evil 1-4, Silent Hill 1-3, Dead Space 1 are superior survival horror games. Be warned this game is challenging and you WILL die a lot. The story is so-so at least in these early chapters.

I always forget people actually like RE3. I always thought that game sucked.

But I don't where I'd rate it in the grand scheme of things. For me, ranking games are often hard, especially in the survival horror genre where different entries took the concept in such different ways. I would say it's probably at least put it within those ranks. I haven't finished it, yet, though. I had to take a break from chapter 10. As much as I love the game, it can wear you down.

Hmm so it seems everyone isn't thrilled with the game. respect my reviews people.

Lol, the game has a meta score of 80. Your reviews are trash. Always have been and that hasn't changed now. You just don't have a strong enough understanding of video game mechanics and the like to give any kind of reliable opinion on them.

Child please. I've been gaming heavy since Sega and horror gaming since resident evil 2. I could break and strip the game down to pieces. From it's boring and uninspired dialogue and characters, to the lag and popped out textures, awful camera angles, relying on action too much, horrible ps3 graphics, and uninspired gameplay. I don't care what reviews it has, as long as others are feeling that the game is nothing special and leans on the bad side, I don't care what the majority says.

I'm only on Chp 5, but I'm really liking it. I've just been too damn busy to sit down with a console to play. Most of my gaming has been on the 3DS.

The main thing that bugs me about this game is the how close the camera is to you. Other than that, I really like it.

Who? Most people posting in here aren't even playing the game. Of those that have, more have liked it than not. You are actually the only person who has outright **** on it. And if we're going by critics, as Pat said, there's much more like than hate.

Not to mention, there's nothing to respect in your "review" because of how inaccurate it was. You compared it heavily to RE4 by the first few chapters that play nothing like RE4 in the least. Based on what little you've said about the game, I'm still questioning whether or not you've even played it. You've said nothing specific about the game and have just given general, broad strokes that could've been pulled from anywhere.

Even if someone agrees with you, your reviews are going to be looked at based on their content. And the content of what you call a review was pretty much nothing. A totally inaccurate comparison to another game, something about first person that had nothing to do with anything, and a super low score that few games really deserve. Yeah, you want people to respect your reviews, write something worth a ****, or at least some that read as more than quick snipes without any substance or insights.

in what ways? Just curious. I just bought the game last night and am only like 30 min in. Don't know what in the hell is going on.

I've just died a lot through Chapter 10. It's long, and there's a lot of parts that kill you quickly.

Also, someone can be playing video games since they were kids and still not understand how it works.

for goodness sake do you people on this site work for this gaming company or something? go look at other peoples user reviews of the game and you will see similar reviews of mine. I wasn't trying to review the game like I work for Game Informer or something like that. I'm just letting people know who are kind of on the fence about spending 60 bucks! For the game that you might want to pass and either rent the game or wait until is around 30 bucks.

Yes, I work for Tango Games. I am Shinji Mikami; you have greatly insulted me.

The following patch has been released for the PC version:

Patch Notes:

With this update, players with high-end PCs will be able to go in to their settings and toggle between running the game with a 30 FPS cap or a 60 FPS cap. Additionally, players will be able to disable the letterbox "black bars" in the game settings -- allowing you to maximize your screen's real estate.

Update Notes

Frame lock settings added
In settings, you can now toggle between a 30 FPS and 60 FPS cap.
Letterbox setting
UI toggle to disable the letterbox bars
Fixes gameplay issues when running at >30 FPS
Fixes for visual issues associated with removing letterbox framing
Achievements now work when console is enabled
Fix for game starting in windowed mode on first run
Minor localization fixes

For consoles, Bethesda has stated: "Currently, the only planned changes for the black bars comes by way of PC. The FOV and ultra-wide presentation are how the game was intended to be played by the development team.

If we have any new information, we'll be sure to share it with everyone."

So, I've not ran into any major technical issue with this until now, but it's a dozy and a half. My game seems to be dead. I came back from a little break at Chapter 10, the game froze, and it will not start again. It's stuck on the start screen (the one with the asylum door that says Press Any Button). I unistalled and reinstalled the data, did nothing. I took the game back and got a new copy, and it's still doing it. It's not my Xbone: I put in MGSV and ran Korra off the HDD, and both ran fine.

I'm deleting the data, including the fighting chance pack, offline and then doing the update again.

Sounds like your save data got corrupted. Did you try starting from an earlier save, or are you literally stuck at the start screen before the game lets you play?
