The FFINO ZONE - Part 1

Namor should be the owner of a water park. Forcing the FF on water rides against their will.

I was thinking Namor, Asian owner of a fish market.

Reid: "We have a Thing!"
Namorshev: "I have crabs!"

I like these pitches, team.

Making Namor Asian opens up potential for all kinds of safely offensive racial humour, of the type that was so successful in Team America.

Hollywood, here we come.

It could be the exception to any one rule, but can it be the exception to every rule?

Sure the production was troubled, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure Jeremy Slater has only written one other film and that was terrible, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure Simon Kinberg has written mostly stinkers, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure Trank is inexperienced, unproven and got fired from his next film, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure it has a late embargo and that almost always indicates a bad film, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure it has a very short run-time and that almost always indicates a bad film, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure the trailers make it look cliché and uninteresting, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure it's a film about Josh Trank's man-boobs and not the FF, but you'll see it anyway.

Sure it's a remake of the first film and that didn't work for ASM, but you'll see it anyway.

Those are a LOT of odds to defy when you add it all up.

Fixed. :o

Better he be in limbo with Marvel and Universal (last we heard, distribution still isn't cleared up completely) then show up in this Fantastic Four franchise. That's what I'm saying.

I'd rather just see Namor in the MCU. It's a moot point but Marvel have cleared up most of the issues around his usage to the point where they believe he'll be allowed to show up in the MCU sooner rather than later.

It would be a waste for Marvel to spend years getting him back just to sell him to Fox. He's Marvel's first superhero, the foundation for the entire 616 universe. They will never let him go. I don't see Namor crossing over with the FF unless there's some sort of event film leading up to a crossover with the MCU, at least not while the MCU is so profitable.

*reads random internet reactions*

Oh I'm so excited! oh my gosh this is the bestest most excitingest thing evar!!!

Just noticed this...

Marvel.com doesn't even list this film in their movie section. They have the Story films. They have the godawful Man-Thing film. No Fant4stic.

In name only indeed.

It'll likely pop up on there eventually. I wouldn't be upset with them if they didn't.

I saw that. :wow: Adds strength to the rumor that Marvel cancelled F4 comics due to this movie...........though I can't blame them.

Every single Marvel adaptation in recent memory has been promoted on the site prior to release. Even the bad ones.

Yeah, the bad blood is obvious.

This one is different. Marvel is clearly pissed they green lit this film because its the only situation where they see it as a rights grab and nothing more. And its also the one brand they really want above all else.

I believe both sides were talking and then things stalled. FOX knows Marvel wants it back.

I'd die laughing if Marvel.com or Marvel in general gave a big shout out to BvS and Suicide Squad instead of this reboot or the upcoming X-men films.

They very publicly congratulated Jurassic World with a great piece from one of their concept artists. I could absolutely see them do the same for DC. This is what Marvel did for Fant4stic:

I remember that.

Marvel should keep it up.

I truly hope we never see the FFINO movie represented on their website.

You know what'd be funny, if Fox teepeed Marvel and then Marvel teepeed Fox and then Hugh Jackman punched out Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans punched out Jaime Bell and then while they fight Superman and ZombieZod destroy both Fox and Marvel headquarters so that fans start *****ing about them again. You know, cause they got jealous.

I remember seeing this. It's hilarious! :woot:

Kevin Feige should do an interview on like Entertainment Tonight right before the FFINO's release, stating Marvel Studios does not endorse this film, and then go on to discuss all the problems the film has had in production. Perhaps it would stop some people who would have seen the movie otherwise thinking it looks interesting enough as a sci fi movie despite the lack of connection and respect to the source material. This is unless of course they can strike a trade with Fox using the rights for the X-men characters on TV in exchange for the return of the Fantastic Four rights and subsequent characters to Marvel. So in that case he would obviously not want to burn any bridges. All I can say is they need to figure it out, because I love the Fantastic Four and this ain't it.

My perspective is aligned with many of the ones that the people here have already pointed out, yet never in my life have I seen a movie that ran on so much spite for a creative property and the owners of said property. Another thing is that, seemingly, as soon as the press release was finished there's now a deafening quiet and I personally haven't seen a Youtube ad for the movie in days.

Marvel doesn't have any beef with DC or any other studios except Fox.

I hope they continue doing this. Fox is a piece of turd because of messing up all the Marvel properties on purpose.

He won't ever do that, as it would be seen as ungracious and unprofessional.

I am sure your right, and even if in the end his actions did hurt FFINO's numbers, they would only be more reluctant to release the rights to Marvel out of spite. I am just angry with Fox for keeping the rights to begin with as it holds my favorite characters from the comics and just so they can put out this turd of a movie and keep the rights. So, don't mind me just blowing off steam.

Shouldn't you be mad at Marvel for selling the rights in the first place?

The Marvel of today is a different beast than the one that went bankrupt and had to sell off all their movie rights. If you want to be mad with anyone, be mad with Ron Perelman instead.

It would make for a more interesting game of dominos.

Marvel had their backs against the wall in the 90's and pretty much had to do that to stay afloat.
However, since then Fox has clearly shown they are playing hardball with this franchise. Which, yes, they have the right to do so, but it doesn't make a lot of sense from a business perspective. The fact that this reboot was announced on the exact same day as word of the Disney/Marvel deal was going public isn't a coincidence, it's an attempt to cash in. Three years passed before we heard anything else about the movie, because it clearly wasn't a priority up until the time constraints on the contracts came into play. They even went so far as to let their Daredevil movie (which was in active development and had a director attached) go to waste and turned down Marvel's deal to extend that contract, because Marvel wanted the rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus in exchange. Note that these are two characters we absolutely will not see in Trank's "lo-fi, gritty" version of the FF, so there was no sense in turning down that deal.

I dunno. Makes a lot of sense to me that a studio would decline to negotiate from a position of weakness. Fox's continued struggles with FF give them no leverage to drive (from their point in of view) a good bargain. Contrast that with Sony. TASM2 made $700 million WW, and whatever the issues with the marketing spend, Sony could go right on making Spider-Man movies and money without Marvel. That gave them leverage to get what they wanted out of a deal.

If this latest effort flops, I think that makes it less likely, not more, that Marvel gets a taste of the FF any time soon.
