It's strange Devin didn't do a review of Ant-Man because of his friendship with Peyton Reed but he felt the need to do a bias review of Fantastic Four even though he's friends with Trank and one of the co-writers on the film.

You should read his Daredevil review. I'm surprised he was able to type with that chip on his shoulder.

Me, my buddy, and two other people. So far that's the smallest crowd I've seen for any movie in the five years I've lived in this city.
I'm going to say this, there was a movie that worked in there somewhere. We'll probably never know who is to blame exactly (I'm sure there's fault on both sides), but there were moments where this movie showed promise if it were more focused. As a whole it was rushed, under developed, and completely undefined. The third act just all of a sudden happens and you're sitting there wondering why you should even care in the first place. I'm going to do a more in-depth review, but those are my thoughts in a nutshell.

I caught a weekday matinee screening of Dragonball Evolution. There were at least a few more people at that.

I didn't see the article myself, or if I did it's been lost in my head from all the nonsense that's come out of this film today, but apparently Toby Kebbell said it in an interview today.

I think it was a post on Twitter basically of someone talking about Kebbell attributing the reshoots to bad buzz from fans online.

In other words, us posters on the Hype are to blame .

The guy made a straight up boring plodding movie ( which is how the first act is being described) He didn't give a $*** about FF and FF fans. He made the movie HE wanted. Fox saw the result and realized it was going to fail, so they made a desperate, late and lame attempt to fix it.
Of course Fox is to blame, but Trank made a movie virtually no fan of trafitional FF would have wanted.
He's behaved like a idiot and a spoiled brat.
He had the rest of his life and career to complain about how Fox handled the situation and he sabotages the movie the day it opens?
It proves he is unstable and had/has no business working on projects like this.
And now clowns are trying to champion his cause and turn him into a martyr??
People are sad.

Wow, that's certainly interesting. Thanks for the info.
My gut tells me that the original cut would have been a more cohesive movie. It seems like they watered everything down to make it lean and get you to the end credits. I'm going to go ahead and say that I think Trank, for all his flaws, probably had a more interesting vision from the start than the final product. What happened in between is anyone's guess, but the movie I saw was clearly cut together by executives trying to make the movie look like every other superhero film.

If Trank was competent enough he could've pulled it off. Vaughn and Singer were probably both in similar situations but managed to scrounge up better stuff. So I think it's as much his fault.

I am guessing Trank's "compromised vision" would've still gotten mostly negative reviews because it would've likely been the same thing as Ang Lee's Hulk. A serious filmmaker trying to make a dark indie movie with an over the top comic book property.

Drew Mcweeny wasn't being nice to Trank on twitter. He was annoyed that Trank spoke out and is acting like he is the first director ever whom has been ****ed over by a big studio. So yeah I agree with Mcweeny's assessment of the situation. Suck it up Josh Trank and move on.

3D conversion for this movie (approx.100 mins) should only have cost 5-10million more, which is inconsequential compared to the budget of the film.

3D would have increase box office.

I don't disagree, but as it stands I want to see Trank's version just to see how it would've turned out. My gut tells me it would've been a stronger movie, albeit a terible FF adaption.
Again, this is all conjecture on my part. It's more than possible that the executives at Fox could have made the right call and Trank could have really pooped the bed on this, but for all the hatred I've spewed at this project for the past year, I'd be lying if I said this movie didn't at least have some potential.
Was it good? Certainly not, I wouldn't recommend any go see it. But there were ideas there I think that could have been pretty fun to explore if it were better pieced together.

True, but as I mentioned, I think that would've turned into a better viewing experience. A better movie? No way I could ever know, probably not if I'm being honest, but at the end of the day I think I'd rather watch a weird, dark, out-there, indie take on the whole thing than a movie that has pretty much no identity whatsoever.

The RUMOR is that the budget for the 3D conversion was spent on the extensive reshoots.

Fox's goal was to make this movie as cheaply as possible, so even if they have a subpar box office return they can still claim victory and green light a sequel so the rights can be kept out of Marvel's hands.

Of course, that was before the reshoots and the 9% on RT thing.
