The Friday The 13th Movies Thread - Part 2

Maybe Jason Blum gets the rights and does a micro-budget reboot? :D

According to the report...
In the wake of Rings not resonating this weekend at the B.O., particularly at the height of its previous two early ’00s pics, it seems like there are second thoughts here with a horror franchise reboot.

Please get this property away from Paramount.

They didn't know what to do with the franchise in the first place when they got it back.

Cut the studio some slack guys. A masked killer hacking naked bimbos and drunk jocks to death in the woods is a very complex concept that requires intricate character work and detailed plotting. It's darn near impossible to make it work.

Not too much of a shock that they're canning this for now.

To be honest, I'd prefer they put this on hold, rather than rush out another crappy film to meet an October release date.

So with this news, I assume 2017 is out for any chances of a new F13.
If they continue to have problems the following year...its possible maybe for a 2019 release? 10 yrs after the last !

They need to get all properties away from Paramount. Last I read they're looking to lose well over $500 million in the coming years so they definitely aren't the right people to be trying to helm any project.

They barely cared for the franchise when they originally had it, and now all this time they get it back and have no idea what to do with it.

That's right, they considered it their Black Sheep however, at least in the 80's movies were made differently so we were able to get a F13 movie every year, by a different director with a slightly different vision with little to no studio interference (outside of producer Frank Mancuso Jr).

The days like that are gone. They're overthinking the entire process, but I understand them needing to achieve success to a wider demographic than just the hardcore slasher fans. That's part of the process a lot of the fans just don't understand. Platinum Dunes tried to do a straight up crowd pleaser with the 09 reboot and even then fans still complained.

Even in trying to reach out and expand on their audience, they're overthinking it all. The people who are gonna get it will get and those who don't won't. They should be more concerned with just making a good movie and letting the rest fall into place.

A F13th movie should take a couple months a few million dollars to make. And yet, they've managed to stumble with creating another film for almost a decade now.

I agree to an extent, and as a big fan of the franchise I've decided to just stop caring. I have a whole bunch of F13 films that I own that I can watch, where Jason walks around stalking kids by a lake and slashing them to bits in the most creative ways possible. If they get their crap together and finally start shooting a new film, I'll be open to it but I'm done sitting around eagerly anticipating it.

This is exactly where I've been for the last eight years. After they announced they were moving ahead with a sequel but then things halted several times in just the first couple of years, I lost interest.

I've long since realized they have no clue what they're doing at this point. That's the only take away.

What and move it along as far as they have with the Halloween reboot :whatever:

And didn't the Sinister franchise fizzle out under him as well?

Yeah, probably not the best choice to handle another horror franchise.

so what's allowing all of these texas chainsaw movies to be churned out? gimme a break.

Leatherface has disappeared too, although it has been filmed but it more than likely stinks.

The last few Texas Chainsaw films have been mediocre to bad at best. However, I stand by my opinion that I like the remake just as much as the original.

TCM2 is like a guilty pleasure thing. Dennis Hopper and Bill Moseley make it worthwhile.

''Lick my plate you dog-d***!''

Yeah, TCM 2 & 3 are guilty pleasures for me as well. They're not great by any means, but they're at least entertaining. Part four was completely atrocious and should be avoided at all costs by everyone.

As for the Leatherface movie, I really thought it would be released in October of last year & was surprised when it wasn't. At this point I'm left wondering if it'll ever even see the light of day.

The Next Generation is funny just for Matthew McConaughey's no-f****-given performance. It's seriously ridiculous.

True, that facet was hilarious. It was just annoying that Leatherface was in drag screaming in every scene he was in, and that all of the characters sucked.

Jason Goes to Developmental Hell!

I didn't appreciate the franchise until the remake. Bryniarski just had the right build/movements for it. to be fair, the only TCM film that I had seen prior to that was the McConnaughey one.
