The Full List of "Crimes" Committed by Fox's Tom Rothman

I know why Cameron rated Avp 3rd. He pretty much hates Alien3 and 4 more than anything i think. I think he's still pissed off they killed off Newt and Hicks.

And a Planet of the Apes Cameron movie....I can almost imagine, what if he reused some of those ideas for Avatar. We'd probably would have had a great Alien movie and Ape movie by now, but Fox ****ed up.

I think they were trying to go for that "not seeing the monster makes it more scary" and failed at that

Based on what I've heard about this film it sounds like the producers went with this half-assed looking cinematography to hide the obvious half-assed job they did on the film.

The "PredAlien" (the product of an Alien impregnating a Predator) wasnt impressive at all...

Cameron doesn't really like these movies he's just saying he does to be nice.

I think he's just implying AVP is a hair better than Alien 3 and 4

If I were him I'd feel the same way. At least Alien vs Predator didn't destory the characters he created.

I heard Cameron had a awesome idea on how to reboot the franchise. He was going to make Ripley wake up from Cryosleep and we find out Alien 3 and 4 were all a bad dream. lol

That's what they felt like to Cameron probably.

And I think if Cameron hated AVP he would of said so. The man doesn't hold back on his thoughts.

It's been a while since I posted in this thread. There's been little news of Tom Rothman micro-managing Fox's more recent films with blockbuster potential. However, the past 3 years have proven that Rothman's influence was detrimental to the future of Fox's franchise movies.

2008 was 20th century Fox's worst year financially in a decade. Only three of their films cracked the 100million domestic barrier that year.

2009 was a decent year for Fox due to the releases of Avatar and Alvin and the Chipmunks last december. However, without those films 2009 would have been a mediocre box office year for Fox.

2010 has been a overall embarrassment financially for 20th century Fox. Avatar continued to make money past december and during the first quarter of 2010 but, it was still a december of 2009 release. In 2010 Fox has yet to release a film that grossed over 100million domestically. Most of their films have underperformed or flopped domestically.

http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2010&p=.htm

20th Century Fox's most successful film for the year is Date Night which made a decent gross but, nothing spectacular. That film probably wasn't meant to initiate the beginning of a Date Night franchise.

4 of the 5 films Fox released to start or continue franchises were disappointments financially . Percy Jackson, The A-Team, and Wall street underperformed while Narnia is on pace to be an epic flop. Predators was a moderate success simply because of it's cheap budget.

Marmaduke may or may not have been viewed as a franchise film. After seeing the trailers I'm not surprised it underperformed.

I can't comment on the quality of any of these films because I haven't seen them. What I do know is Fox did a horrible job promoting most of these films because the The A-Team was the only one I was remotely interested in seeing.

In contrast to Fox other studios have made decent money in-spite of an overall shaky financial year for the movie industry.

Paramount/Dreamworks had 7 films break the 100million domestic barrier.

Disney had 3 films break this barrier. 2 of the films were the highest grossing films of the year.

Sony and Warner Brothers both had 4 films that broke the 100million domestic barrier.

The always struggling Universal Studios even had two movies that broke the 100million domestic barrier. Robin Hood was a flop but, Despicable Me was a huge success.

Gulliver's Travels maybe Fox's last hope at breaking the 100million domestic barrier in 2010.

Finally, X-Men first class better be nothing short of phenomenal next summer or the franchise could die and all X-Men spin off series could be put on hold. That would leave Fox with very few franchises with blockbuster potential. The Fantastic Four and Daredevil reboots have not gotten underway yet, and the planet of the Apes reboot is a big risk. Unless James Cameron plans to release an Avatar sequel every year Fox could continue to struggle financially against the other studios.

i remember this thread:applaud

I think Guillivers Travels will bomb. my 2 cents.

It will bomb and it looks terrible. I wish Jack Black would go away and take Seth Rogen and Michael Cera with him.

I read somewhere that Knight and Day was the highest grossing Fox movie worldwide this year.....If someone doesn't take notice of this bad year and not get fired I don't know what the hell is going on over there.

Seth dnd Michael have redeeming qualities. In countering me, what comedic actors do you like? I tend to think that geeks and fanboys just don't like comedians, or have a low tolerance for them.

I do have to admit that Jack is wasting his time. Otherwise, with Ten D, he is gold; movies not so much.

They love them when they're the underdogs and then quickly tear them apart when they get too much success. It's the same with directors. Everybody was rooting for Jack Black during School or Rock, Will Ferrell during Old School/Elf, Seth Rogen during Knocked Up and Michael Cera during Arrested Development. Zach Galifianakis was the same deal during The Hangover and now there's a backlash. It's sad, really.

Paul Rudd is my favorite comedic actor. The only terrible comedian/actor that I will admit to liking is Will Farrel but I hated The Other Guys...terrible movie. I am tired of Michael Cera, Seth Rogen, and Jack Black. Michael Cera is a hipster Will Farrel. Seth Rogen is a fat stoner comic and that doesn't interest me. I used to think Jack Black was okay but his choice in movies is extremely terrible.

What happens when you play the same character in every movie. You can play the same note on the trumpet for so long before it gets old and annoying.

There are always people like this. Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, etc. etc. and so on and so forth.

To be fair their movies this year have at least showed that he isnt getting involved in the production of the movies anymore, probably because, luckily for us, his new position prevents it, I personally thought Predators and The A-Team were superb, enjoyed Knight and Day as well although not as much, but all 3 were better than 95% of Fox movies when Rothman was involved in them, X3 especially being the one that I will never forgive them for.

But I don't think any of those movies - even A-Team or Predators - were the caliber of a mega-blockbuster, you know?

I mean, Narnia is closest this year, but even then it's underperforming.

I like the humor Ryan Renolds puts into things...but for myself, I can't really think of a comediam off hand I think is actually funny. No wait...maybe Steve Carell...loved him in Get Smart. I think that's the only guy I find funny. Maybe that's because most of the comedies coming out are rated R and I'm not into crude comedy.

I personally thought AT and P's were both worthy of making more money than they did, its a damn shame in AT's case as that could have been a great little franchise. I just hope the movies not making much but actually being good doesnt force them to go back to their old ways of making all of their blockbusters 90 mins or less and being complete and utter ****e!

I just think (not speaking to you directly) that geeks are very selective when it comes to comedy or comedians. I've noticed it, usually on boards or in comments areas.

But they're not actors nor ever claimed to be. They're comedians. I remember Rick Moranis saying how frustrating the films he made in the 1990's were because he wasn't an actor. He could improvise with other actors (as he did in the movies he made in the 1980's ie. Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, Strange Brew ect) but he found it terrible to try to memorize a studio script. I think people forget that.
