The Gary Johnson Thread

Another new GJ2012 TV ad/YouTube ad.

5% of vote means major party status for LP in 2016 by way of 90 million worth of tax payer money being sent to LP for 2016 election cycle.

Like the ad, not the way his voice is though.

Why Johnson would be better than Obama and Romney, even with Congress against him...

http://www.policymic.com/articles/1...-would-look-like-if-he-were-elected-president

However, the aspects of Johnson’s platform that could be implemented directly from the executive branch would likely be achieved. Johnson would be a much better defender of civil liberties than either Obama or Romney. Unlike his opponents, he adamantly opposes the drug war, and would likely refuse to enforce federal drug laws even if he failed to get marijuana legalization passed by Congress. The DEA raids on medical marijuana dispensaries, which have continued under Obama, would end.

So, predictions?

Will Gary Johnson A) Get over 1 million votes?

B) 850K+

C) 700k

D) 600k

E ) lol.

...While I think Johnson can still surprise and get over 1 million + votes for a few reasons. There is no Nadar effect this year, Johnson will get some Paul votes, he is a two term Governor...

I think he get ''B''. I think he gets over 850,000 votes and will get in the 900K range. He will start off slow, then see a surge in the West/Mid West where he runs stronger.

I just voted for Johnson. He may have no chance of winning, but it felt good to vote for the only competent candidate.

Congrats man. Any guess to how Johnson will do election night??

As for me, I think I'll watch Fox News cause I can, but hit up online at same time at politico, MSN, and Yahoo. Maybe flip to between NBC and Fox News.

He will probably end up doing the best that a Libertarian has ever done in a general election. Im feeling that he will end up with 7% of the vote.

Glad to hear it.

I'm setting my expectations low, much lower...but there is a chance he can get the best ever percentage and vote wise for the LP. I hope he can get more than my prediction of at least 850K...I've seen everywhere from 0.1 to 10% of the vote...

Things are getting ultra-tight in the Barack Obama-Mitt Romney race and in the crucial battleground states of Ohio and Colorado, late polls indicate that Gary Johnson could end up affecting the outcome there.

Polls from CNN/ORC released on Friday (Nov. 2) show Johnson receiving 5 percent in Ohio and 4 percent in Colorado. What may be more significant, though, is that while the poll in Ohio shows Johnson not affecting the difference between Obama and Romney (where the poll had Obama up by 3 points), Johnson reduces Obama’s margin in Colorado by a net of 1 percentage point.

In the CNN/ORC poll of Colorado, Obama led Romney 50-48 when the pollsters asked 984 adults, including 904 registered voters and 733 likely voters, in a telephone survey conducted between Oct. 26-31 to choose between Obama, Romney or “other.”

But when the survey included the names of Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Constitution candidate Virgil Goode, Obama’s lead on Romney shrunk to 48-47

Yeah. 5% in Ohio is like 200K to 250K in votes. That is big. This is based on 8 million there are able to vote, but only 5 million or so may this cycle.

I would love to see Obama beat Romney and the amount of votes Johnson gets would make Romney win. The right would flip over it(and not point out how Johnson has an equal chance of taking from both)

How is this possible. My mom always told me, never vote independent, the vote ends up going to the repukes anyways.

Ohio and California are the two states where Johnson may get at least 100k votes at.

Consider this...

108,736 LP voters. As for total LP voters...the number is 282,357 I believe. So nearly half of the party is in one state.

How does the vote go the the Republicans?

What ever happened to the Libertarians taking over New Hampshire. lol

Tonight's debate with Stein was pretty good. GJ was a bit aggressive at times, but it was refreshing to hear actual debate vs. just watching plutocrats pretend to be different.

Eh, I dunno. Maybe the Free State Project is libertarian-Republican and not Libertarian Party? Yea, Ron Paul got like 20% there in the NH Primary...or whatever it was, but eh.

Don't quote me on this, well, I guess you can...but I want to say the LP in terms of organization is strong in Ohio, Cali, Texas. I believe in NC (where I live) we passed 19K in members.

So, Johnson will not get $90 million dollars if he gets 5% of the vote. That is if he gets 25% of the vote. However, 5% means around $10 million for 2012/2016. 5-24% means various money amounts.

Interesting. Didn't know that.

Here's the thing. If Johnson gets 5%, it's with about $2 million.

So doesn't that mean $10 million should get him around 25% (at least 20%)?

Awesome.

Will Gary Johnson you say...get more than 523,433 by LP Barr/Root 08?
