The Gary Johnson Thread

I currently don't pay a federal tax because I don't make very much money. Under Johnson's plan I would suddenly be paying a 23% federal sales tax, and a base federal tax of some amount (though I think that may have been changed to only people over a certain income, making it not a true Flat Tax...probably why they changed it to FAir Tax) I have the feeling it would add up to more than my state, local, and social security payments, which I'm not even sure the federal sales tax would supersede, there might still be state and local taxes and state sales taxes, right? Or does his plan intend to get rid of those somehow (I couldn't find it on his website page, or else I overlooked it)?

Also, I have a problem with him privatizing social security. His plan for privatizing social security is basically just setting up the equivalent of a Roth IRA for people, where they take the money going into "social security" and the employee invests it wherever they feel it should go, and take the losses or gains accordingly when they retire. It's essentially just getting rid of social security altogether and doing the Charles Schwab or TD Ameritrade paperwork for people instead of them filling the form out themselves. I already invest part of my income through Charles Schwab--I want the security that the current public social security provides in case the bottom falls out of the stock market. Under Johnson, I would be entirely at the whims of the market instead of just partially.

It ends up being better than what we currently have. I don't make a lot of money, but in the end the two main parties are destroying this country.

Um...I honestly don't know about state and local taxes. I have heard Gary use a can of Coke for a example. Under the Fair Tax, that $1 coke becomes $0.80.

At this point Johnson won't sadly win. He will issues 2 more lawsuits to get into the other debates, or try to get into the last two debates.

I saw Gary's mad scientist ad. Even better than the zombies.

Was it on TV and in what state? Because it is or was on tv nationally...I was told.

Might as well post this here...

According to FEC filings as of the end of September, Johnson’s LP campaign had spent $1.6 million through August. Johnson told C-SPAN this week the campaign has spent more than $2 million. (In comparison, Bob Barr spent $1.4 million in his 2008 Libertarian campaign.) While Politico reported in late September that “significant super PAC support for Johnson has yet to materialize,” at least one Johnson-oriented SuperPac, Freedom and Liberty PAC, has spent to support Johnson in August and September, according to FEC filings, $35,000 on telephone surveys, $80,000 on making TV commercials, $100,000 on a website, and a quarter million on advertising in August and September.

Quarter of a million is $250,000.

$250k+100k+80K+35K=$465K...

This is the Pac with $1-1.1 Million in it's war chest... :woot: spend moar money.

This website = $100k my ass....I say more like $50-80K.

Romney got a lot of positive press back in 2008 because he was the Anti-McCain (the one they "media" knew would be the candidate...) McCain got a lot of positive press back in 2000 because he was the Anti-Bush (the one they "media" knew would be the candidate....)

Johnson now has that title....the Anti-Romney.....

And Gary is polling in Ohio. Not at the awesome 10.6% according to Gravis, but in a new CNN/ORC Poll...3%.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...-tightening-up-in-battleground-ohio/?on.cnn=1

Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, and Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode are also on the presidential ballot in Ohio. When their names were added to the poll, Obama is at 48%, Romney 45%, with Johnson at 3%, Stein at 1% and Goode registering less than one-half of one percent.

As others have pointed out...Johnson has unusual staying power for a 3rd party.

4% in Arizona and Virginia. In Virginia Goode is at 1%. Stein at 0.5%.

:wow:

Freedom and Liberty Pac release 3 new TV ads onto tv and YouTube.

Big coverage.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus characterized Johnson as a "nonfactor," but there's ample evidence the Republican establishment isn't sincere in its dismissal. In Iowa, the Romney campaign "ran what was effectively a surveillance operation" to monitor Johnson's efforts to collect ballot signatures, while in Pennsylvania, GOP officials "hired a private detective to investigate his ballot drive."

The detective flashed an FBI badge -- he's a retired agent -- and asked to see the petitions collected by Johnson canvassers.

Johnson also broke 300,000 likes on Facebook earlier today.

I saw a poll on Chris Matthews saying GJ has like 6% of the vote in New Mexico(Obama leading Romney by 10%. I would just love for GJ to screw over Romney in a couple states to let the Republicans get an idea what true conservatism is(ie stop useless defense spending and get on the right side of social issues)

Gary Johnson is the best option in a while to actual build up the LP, especially if he runs in 2016, which he is open to.

He will most definitely get more than Bob Barr's LP 2008 campaign of 0.4% and 523,000 something votes.

Also got press via NY Times and RT yesterday and today.

EDIT Gary's strongest showing will be in the Mid-West as well.

So, Gary Johnson announced vai a tape video, he be on the Philip DeFranco Post-Debate YouTube LIVE show This upcoming Monday 22nd after the final debate.

Thought he be on it TONIGHT and say something...well, next Monday it is.

I'm genuinely surprised to see people on SHH saying nice things about Gary Johnson.:woot:

He's amazing. I was lucky enough to see him speak in Minneapolis in 2008.

I think he has the upside of being very genuine. I dislike most of his economic and social policies but he comes off as a genuine person who believes in what he's saying, unlike say, Romney, who you know is basically having words put in his mouth by his party so he can appeal to the far right.

EDIT: I mean Romney before the first debate when he basically pulled a magic trick and suddenly became moderate again.

New YouTube ad...this one will be on TV according to campaign e-mail I got. TV tomorrow. Strong ad.
