New cast member?

Thought she was one of the casts' girlfriends or something, but she's not. She's Georgian apparently. Could've been a good Wanda in a film tbh.

I hope Nix's deal at Fox means this show is actually good. I mean we already know it's somewhat good since they gave it an early order but...

I don't know her well enough to say whether she could have pulled off a good Wanda Maximoff, but she certainly has the physical look of the character.

I read that the reaction at comic cons was quite good. With all the promotions I think Fox is pretty confident in this series :)

I think they'll go with someone more familiar/famous if Wanda is in Dark Phoenix.

I don't think there's any reason to expect to see her in that movie.

I have a feeling the Strucker family is going to kill this series for me.
I've actually been giving this some thought as well. Most people seem to be more excited about the "Mutant family" rather than the Struckers. I think as far as actors go, Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker are great casting for these human characters. I also think the last name (and the fact that the dad is working for Sentinel services) could hint at some interesting storylines down the line.

As far as the kids go I think Lauren (as Mantra) could be interesting if they want to explore sorcery and magic in the future. For all intends and purposes she could end up being the Gwen Tennyson of the series. Not saying that they'll do that, but that could be an option. Now if we go with the assumption that Andy gets the powerset from Alpha they could really change it up over time, keep their powers fresh as it were.

So essentially I think both of those are actually really smart choices.

The family who are likely the main reason this series is getting made is for the family drama, the mum and dad trying to protect their children while the children are adjusting to their new powers and presumably going from normal kids to growing in a more troubled world.

for whatever its worth, this is a chance to include characters that would otherwise never make it into the films, at least not yet. There's a wide array of characters never used in the movies, both heroes and villains.

70s reboot era: Thunderbird I, Banshee, Sunfire

80s era: Forge, Polaris, Dazzler, Longshot (bypass the alien backstory)

90s era: Marrow,

2000s: Thunderbird (Shaara)

I'm surprised there is no leak out there for the pilot. So many highly anticipated shows were leaked before their premiere.

Banshee was in First Class, and they could have used Forge, Polaris, and even Thunderbird which is similar to Warpath if they have mapped out the movies carefully. Dazzler will appear in Dp.

Elle Satine is playing Beautiful Dreamer, courtesy of the TCA's today.

I just read about this character a couple days ago haha. Looks like they're picking the Morlocks for the supporting roles.

It doesn't matter what characters are in the movies. This show is its own thing.

Interview for The Gifted from TCA today. Nix says he was inspired by more obscure runs of comics and brings up District X as one of them. Good to know where he got some of his inspiration from, and I'm actually digging more and more of what I'm hearing from this show the more Nix talks about it. I think he's really saying the right stuff.

“The Gifted” showrunner Matt Nix said that the upcoming Fox series will not shy away from dealing with the X-Men universe.

“In our world, one of the things we’ll be unpacking is the specific relationship of this group of characters to the X-Men,” Nix said Tuesday at the TCA summer press tour. “It’s in the trailer that the X-Men are gone. And that’s not a dodge, like ‘The X-Men are gone and we’re never going to mention them again!’ We’re going to be exploring it. It’s a huge deal to these guys. It’s a huge deal in the world. It’s one of the central mysteries of the show.”

Nix also addressed how the series will intersect with the X-Men cinematic universe.

“There’s a whole sort of historical mythology,” he said. “There’s not going to be a situation where the television show is driving the movies or the movies are driving the television show, because the mythology that we’re telling specifically avoids that but it doesn’t avoid that by pretending the X-Men don’t exist or there just doing stuff over and no one pays any attention.”

“There’s not going to be a situation where the television show is driving the movies or the movies are driving the television show."

That right there. Good. That's one of my biggest issues with Agents of SHIELD where, while it does often tell its own story, some of what comes up, whether it's the Winter Soldier events or Ghost Rider creating a portal similar to what we saw in Doctor Strange, it often piggybacks off of what's happened in the films.

Here, while I expect there'll be more talk of the X-Men and mutants in general compared to Legion, at least it won't be reliant on what happened in the movies to drive the narrative.

I still think the experience of watching Agents of SHIELD followed by the Winter Soldier, knowing what the next episode of Agents of SHIELD would cover was one of the most fascinating and unique experiences in all of television. I don't think anyone would dare to repeat it, but it was amazing. Of course, it can only be done live once, but I will always defend that regardless of people's complaints about the Age of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World, or Civil War tie-ins.

TWS tie in was very good. But the X-Men with its status quo changes from movie to movie doesn't make it the most compatible thing for TV tie-ins, so it's good that they're just moving the opposite way and letting creatives carve out little niches in corners and here and there with the various spinoffs.
