The Good Things about MSJ (Mark Steven Johnson) Thread.

Can we please try to stay on topic with this thread? I know it's hard to keep our opinions to ourselves sometimes when we feel strongly about something, but if they don't fit the thread, please don't post them there.

This thread is for positive comments about MSJ. Negatives can be posted more or less anywhere else.

Cool?

:yay:

^Exactly

Plus, people seem to forget, not many Hollywood directors would have taken on the adaptation of a C-List Marvel character. He did, and IMO, he did an okay job as well.

And don't forget this: MSJ put forward his own money so that an action sequence where Ghost Rider battles a helicopter could be made.

You heard that right! Gave up some of his own money! HIS SALARY!! How many directors in Hollywood would even go that far? If there's anyone to REALLY blame here, it's the studio responsible for it all: SONY! MSJ tried SO hard! I mean he's no "Peter Jackson" but he really tried! It's Sony and their "budget constraints", not to mention that atrocious "PG-13" policy that ruined most of the film, not MSJ! I feel so bad for the poor man that he has to endure being that studio's "scapegoat" for every single fault the film had. Sad....really sad......:csad:.......

I heard he brushes his teeth at least 4 times a day

That is a very important point every fan of GR should keep in mind, at least we got an awesome looking GR on the big screen. Of course, personally I loved the movie, but for those that didn't, keep that in mind.

Also, a few have said the commentary by MSJ on the dvd pissed them off because of how he seemed to view the character. Keep in mind the comments were made, not to mention the movie was made after he had got the "groundrules" from sony and marvel as to how they wanted it done, i.e. kid friendly. I think he did the best he could with the perameters he was given.

Wait, Marvel and Sony forced it to be lighter?

Yes, in an interview he blamed Sony for not wanting to make an R-rated Ghost Rider. The story goes that Goyer left the project because of that and MSJ stepped in to make a PG 13 Ghost Rider that he believed would work.

In a sense, he did make it work, the movie was a small success for Sony.

Well, of course they did! You know how these guys are. They think "not too many people would want a Rated-R movie" and that "every superhero film has to be kid-friendly". I say just the stupid "paradigms" of washed-up old fogs who can no longer grasp with the present times. To think MSJ has to keep working under those fools.....all they do is enforce their own clouded beliefs over what the masses truly want! Look what happened to the 'original' Daredevil thanks to them.... nuff said.

Damn...

Well I read the review for that R rated script and it sucked...I liked the dark tone but the story was just dumb. So what we got was actually good...like really, my like for the movie just went up.

Exactly, people get on his back for how GR turned out, when he did everything to make it as good a movie as possible under the circumstances.

Plus, the scene he gave up his writing fee for was awesome :yay: .

I know what you mean, it seemed that everything was against this movie from the start, so MSJ did damn good under the circumstances IMO.

MSJ is a nice guy...he knows exactly what to say to make fans pleased...but I really feel he decieved us on many things in this movie.

He's like that friend of yours who tells you about a movie about how great it was, how the action was amazing, how you're going to be blown away by the actor's performances...and then when you see it you're like...man what was he smoking?

That's him, he's that guy, that is MSJ in a nutshell.

Lol.

:ninja:

I wonder if MSJ will ever return here to speak to the fans, i understand why he hasnt so far, but now things seem to be dying down, so i hope he come's in to have a chat with us.

I wish he'd come back :csad:..... I really hold a lot of respect for him, despite what others may think of his films. I'm sure he can do a proper GR sequel if only given the right circumstances (e.g. "more money", "more cooperation from the studio", etc.)

If I were him, I'd be worried about getting flamed as soon as I said hi. And that's a shame. Part of the reason I created the 'I Really Dug This...' thread was in the hope that he and Gary Foster might pop in and see that we don't all hate every little bit of the movie they made.

Maybe he'll reappear if he gets on board for the sequel.

Agreed on both accounts, i hope he comes back to the boards and back for a sequel. But news is slow at the moment on the GR front. Saying, it has been the same with many sequels, and then BAM, all of a sudden everything comes together.

since he's doing the preacher series on HBO he may come back on another thread

Agreed, i hope he does get the chance to do the sequel, as with a bit more budget and freedom, i think he could do a great job.

He wanted to hype his movie and this was the place to do it. Maybe he'll stop by and say hi, but I doubt he'd want to sit here and answer all our questions like he did before. Considering now he cant say, "see it first and then judge for yourself.'

After seeing it, lots of things he said about this movie was not true - Blackhearts 'true' form, the love story, Ghost Rider's villains posing a challenge to Ghost Rider. He also said he didnt want to make this movie cliche, yet he admits to making it cliche in the documentary.

If he does come back, he has lots of explaining to do.

The Hidden gave Ghost Rider a little challenge, but not enough.

^They did their duty in the movie though IMO, they were there to be disposed of.

Yeah MSJ said Blackheart knew they'd be losers and he only used them to get more time.

Blackheart needed them to help him find the contract, nothing more, we saw in at least 2 instances in the movie he could handle GR alone.

Well the deleted scene explained it all too.

Blackheart: Slow him down.
Wallow: ...What?
Blackheart: Slow. Him. Down.

He obviously didn't give a damn. I liked that scene, wish it wasn't cut.
