The Guns thread - Part 1

I live 40 minutes from the closest police station. On a dirt road where my nearest neighbor is half mile away in each direction. There are no street lights for miles. Someone could kill me and take up residence here and it would take forever for anyone to even notice.

I had someone come to my house to do some work and when they left they didnt close my door going from the house to the garage which alerted ADT. I missed their call and by the time I called them back, 45 minutes had passed. The police STILL hadent arrived at my house.

Any idea what 3 guys, possibly armed, with bad intentions can do in 45 minutes....

Dont you love it when other people tell you what you do and dont need.

Ill keep my AR and 30 round mags thank you.

Oh BTW, One of the rifles I have is a Daniel Defense Ambush, which was designed for... hunters. But its still a AR.

So, you need 10 rounds per person....ok. Man, I hope 4 guys don't break in. :o

So....the easily excited guy with a chip on his shoulder has an automatic with 30 round mags.....neato.

Im not easy excited (and I do see the psychology in you claiming so). I think you have that reversed.

Chip on my shoulder...

Im not the one claiming to know whats best for everyone else.

Im not the one who wants to take away from others that which I dont agree with.

Im not the one making emotional arguments.

Im not the one deciding for what everyone else what they should or shouldnt have based on MY opinions and beliefs.

See...

What I said was emotional? In your post, that my comment was directed at, you say how glad you are to have your automatic weapon....then point out multiple types of people you are displeased with. I thought that was kind of interesting...so I made a comment.

Deleting this stupid argument.. but will leave this part...

I will throw one more thing out there for the against AR people. A person can do just as much damage in public with 2 semi auto pistols. Simply, if someone wants to cause hurt on others, theyre going to find a way to do it.

Im not against gun control, not at all. And I do agree that some weapons are too easy accessible for people who shouldnt have them. But lets not compare me to someone who has a history of mental illness or has trouble with the law. Only a idiot would make a argument for people with sketchy backgrounds to be able to get a gun. (<--- A reason I carry one everyday, you never know who youll run into. Again, insurance)

I dont want to debate this anymore. Its just tedious.

It's human nature for one person to tell another what they can or can't do -- Crazies shouldn't have guns without a check, abandoned women shouldn't have abortions, they should just suck it up. Fracking is great, too bad about your water. Can't breathe because of the smog? Just move. Nothing is fair or right in this country anymore. :(

You singled me out as being easy excitable or whatever. A petty comment because you dont agree with my opinion. My comment back was with all the comments made here, based on emotion, you attempted to bait and insult me as "easy excitable " with a chip on my shoulder.
I singled you out, because I stumbled into the thread....read your post about your gun....then read your post talking about people who irk you. There was no attempt to bait and insult you....there was just me making a flippant comment about your posts that I thought were interesting....that you are now irked about.

I'm sorry....but I am simply expressing how I took your posts. You felt I was baiting you....I felt you were irked.

Oh well....Hail Hydra.....Batman forever....May the Force be with you.......

Im partial to Crom and The Lord of Light myself.

And just so you know.....I still have my collection of Cerebus the Aardvark comics.

Everybody with their auto/semi-auto weapons are sitting at home minding their own business and not hurting anybody, until they decide not to.

It's a reminder that when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

Yes. So using your logic, how is owning a rifle going to help you? If someone wants to hurt you or anyone else, they are going to find a way to do it.

Speaking for myself. Sure, if someone really wants to hurt me they are going to do their damndest to hurt me, but I'm going to do my damndest to stop them. A gun is just one form of defense id be willing to employ. I'll use everything from a gun to my teeth if someone's really trying to hurt me.

And let's be honest some people own a gun simply for peace of mind. Owning a gun is not a guarantee of safety or that you will come out on top in a B&E situation. A lot of people know this, but owning a gun gives them peace of mind regardless. It helps them feel that in a bad situation they will have the power to determine whether they live or die. I fall into this category. Knives require a person to get up close. In a knife fight physical strength may play a huge role in who comes out on top. Hand to hand defensive combat is the same way. But with a gun even the most frail tiny person can potentially defend themselves as well as the biggest brawler with a gun. As someone that weighs 120 soaking wet and has very little in the way of upper body strength in a fight Id most likely be dead. With a gun I at least have a fighting chance. And having had to call the cops to my house before I know the response time and it's not fast enough for my liking. So that's why I own a pistol and a 12 gauge shotgun. I hope to god I never need to use them against another person.

I get you Marv. I don't disagree with your assessment. This was a question on the idea that such things are seemingly inevitable, so. I don't you can play that on one side of the argument. Which to me fairly puts the question of what guns a person should be allowed to own on the table. Because if someone can do the same damage with two semi auto pistols, why does someone need such a rifle for protection?

So if they don't use a gun, they could just use a... gun.

?

You know, I still feel safer unarmed and knowing the vast majority of the people around me are unarmed/have had mandatory gun safety training and background checks than I ever would if I knew everyone around me could get a gun easily.

If someone with a gun shows up to shoot me then I'm fairly ****ed with or without there being plentiful amounts of guns about but the odds against that happening are really really good.

I'd prefer the cops and people who have the right training to be armed rather than Billy Bob redneck firing off ARs at the moon because he got drunk again. It just seems safer that way.

'Cause that's not a huge mostly-unjustified stereotype or anything.

Whoop-de-doo. Like I care. Considering all the idiots with guns in America and all the stupid **** you can see people do on any given day, it's not wrong.

Look at the idiots giving small children guns at the shooting range. Look at the people the kids kill by accident due to idiots leaving guns out.

There's arrests in the area around me during the summer because people get drunk and shoot off their guns. That's in a country with good gun control.

I don't feel bad about mocking a stereotype that is constantly fulfilled.

There are idiots with guns.

There are also a hell of a lot (a majority according to every statistic ever) that never do anything wrong with them.

I'm for tougher gun control, especially when it comes to background checks and closing loopholes for gun shows and the like. But what you just said was pretty ridiculous.

"Billy Bob redneck drunk and shooting at the moon". C'mon now.

There's a middle ground here. Common sense gun control without getting to "anyone buying more than a glock is Ted Nugent!" territory.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't, and probably never will, own a weapon.

But also, JH, your car comparison is lame. It's not the same thing. Don't do the strawman thing, it's exactly what the hardcore "no-guns-ever" types do on the other side.

I have zero problems with people having guns. People want guns? Fine.

I have problems with how lax the gun control is to the point that quite a lot of people treat them as toys and feel they have more rights than people do.
