The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Hans Zimmer Score thread - Part 1

Surprisingly TASM has one of my all-time favorite movie scores actually. It was my favorite part of the movie... and while I still love it beyond words, this new OST has literally made me completely forget about it.

I don't mean that as a slight or detraction from Horner's work, just only that Hans Zimmer has miraculously made me ok with them moving away from the original

Oddly enough, I think the score for TASM1 and now TASM2 are both some of the most unique film scores I've ever heard, both in their own personal ways
You're doing a good job of hyping me up. :woot:

But I believe it. Zimmer is my favourite composer.

"I'm Goblin" is the most intense and invigorating piece of music I've heard in a movie in years. Maybe ever. Holy **** I'm sweating.

I appreciate the response. I was actually really attached to the previous trilogies main theme. Actually SM1 and SM2. That theme was so emotional and I loved the classical feel it had. Especially during the swinging in the 1st movie and even more so in SM2(when Spidey is swinging to Ock). I was kind of disappointed with ASM1 partly because it didn't have a lot of tracks I liked or that made me emotional.

It seems that this movie will fix that problem for me so I'm happy!

Are any of you guys musicians? If so, do you think any of these songs in particular would translate well to guitar/piano covers?

I bet if you were to take out the voices the music will show you how the scene is played out without any sound

Haha good to know

My biggest concern about bringing in someone new other than Horner is that we would lose that sweet, emotional tenderness from the first one, which really made the film for me... And while I still miss some of the delicate piano-pieces from Horner's score, man does Zimmer deliver in the emotion department... as well as every other department lol

I'm a guitarist, but regardless of that, yes they would. Especially since there's already so much actual guitar work already in them ha

Would definitely translate to some pretty piano covers as well (which I try to dabble in but I'm not as good)

Cold War would translate great to a rock cover.

Okay, here's my mini review if anyone cares to read it:

Overall, this is the strongest Spidey score we've received yet. While I personally enjoyed both Elfman's multiple outings and Horner's sole go, I found them to be inconsistent. Despite being almost there, I never felt we've had our iconic Spidey score. I think we've found it here.

While I was initially worried that the Electro themes would be forcefully packed with electronic wubs, and woobs I was pleasantly surprised to see just how will Zimmer and co managed to make it work without being eyeroll-worthy. The only moment I scratched my head at was the end of "You Need Me". The composition was very...formulaic in the sense that it seems like it would fit more on your standard pop rock album more than a film score, but maybe it will work better with context.

The strong points on the soundtrack are bountiful but if I had to narrow it down, I would say "I'm Goblin", "Cold War", and "You're that Spider Guy" are my three favorite tracks.

"I'm Goblin" is what I'm assuming will be accompanying the final battle and climax of the film. I am not exaggerating when I say this track is arguably one of the best compositions I've heard in a movie. It never ceases to outdo itself. Just when I thought I had reached the pinnacle of the song, the next measure upped the ante. I cannot wait to see it alongside the events I believe to be occurring.

For anyone looking on YT, just search up "the amazing spider-man 2 soundtrack" than put uploaded today.

The only problem I have with the score is that I really liked James Horner's main Spidey motif, and I wish that was carried over here for some consistency throughout the series.

^ Zimmer is one of the only composers who's score can make me cry like a little girl.
Krypton's Last from the Man of Steel OST was so sad and beautiful.

I thought ground rules kind of did that.

But it doesn't have the same melody that Horner's did - I'm talking about the theme that shows up in the last part of "Saving New York" and during the final swing in "Promises - End Titles."

I do like Zimmer's new theme a lot though. It has an energetic feeling to it.

I'm literally SO relieved after hearing this full soundtrack. Not because I was worried it wouldn't be good, I already knew from the samples that I would like this score. But because I'm obsessed with this soundtrack. I think it's a masterpiece.

And it makes me relieved because there are some movies in my life that I like for no other reason than I love the score for the film.... So any (small)doubt I might have had about this film being good or anything like that, has now become completely irrelevant because this film contains one of my now favorite film scores, so I know I'll love it regardless of everything else :woot: :woot:

(though I still believe everything else about this film -- aside from the normal few minor gripes here or there -- will be great too)
