The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Hans Zimmer Score thread - Part 2

Honestly, don't know why people weren't completely heart wrenched by some scenes, once you see it in theatres we can discuss the ending!

The score just adds a whole new level to the emotional impact of the film. It's truely hard hitting and powerful, and brings the human element to the superhero, which doesn't happen often

I have only listend to about 1/3 of the soundtrack has I wanted to see the movie first. I think has soon has I get home form my 7 pm showing tomorrow I am going to listen to the whole soundtrack.

The simplicity of 'Ground Rules' during May's speech about taking one last look and putting Ben's belonging away where they belong was touching. Gently soaring upwards - mourning the past. That cue really comes alive during the film itself.

Honestly, everytime I doubt the film's brilliance to me personally I put on the soundtrack and all those emotions from my first viewing come rushing back, such an amazing score.

Completely right about Ground rules, apt title too due to the famous Union Square scene which I think typified Peter and Gwen's relationship!

That's My Man - Liz

I bought it yesterday. Haven't listened to all of it, but enough to know I'm not as into it as I'd like to be!

I think the problem is, the themes don't really go anywhere. You get Spidey's theme, which is great and has been in my head all week, but it's not really built on. There's that slow, emotional version which is nice, but whenever it plays, it's very similar, just "bolder" but there's not really much variation on it.

Same goes for Electro I think.

I think the whole score is lacking another layer of "oomph"! At least, compared to Man of Steel, Rush, TDK, Crysis...

the score really only blooms for me when you watch the movie. listening the tracks at home, it really does lack the "oomph" but with the movie the melodies and cues just melt my heart

the first thing I noticed watching the movie was that the score had been heavily mixed around, which is the style Zimmer often uses. the beginning is clearly from the track "there he is" but in the movie the track is slowed down and mixed with other parts that aren't even present in the ost album (which is a shame since the parts in the plane scene are so intense)

the electro stuff is pure gold imo. I do admit that the "we're best friends" is a little too "fluffy" for my taste, but the up-beat attitude melded pretty good with the context of the scenes so again, can't complain. in all intensive purposes it's still a movie soundtrack and if it works with the movie, there's nothing wrong with it

anyway, after that fair share of gushing I think it's cool to bring up this one nitpick: they should've EQ'd the horn in the main theme better. it's too harsh, almost piercing. a nice example of good horn EQ'ing is the first TASM's theme, fairly smooth but not smudgy

@TheWallCrawler

EQ on the trumpet in I'm Spider-Man may indeed have been a little too sharp.

Also did you notice how almost none of the score from the scenes with the parents, are on the soundtrack?

I want to like it on its own merits though, cos the movie was such a disjointed mess! :whatever: Lol.

There's something about the track that plays when the train carriage raises up… I thought it was way over the top for that scene.

Okay, and I'm making way through, and I'm finding some more nice tracks, so I've justified the purchase to myself now. Even though I've already bought it!

But yeah, I mean, I just heard the few glimpses of the main theme in Still Crazy… but they're just glimpses :csad: a tantalising hint at what could have been, but Zimzim holds back! :woot:

@SpideyK

damn, didn't think about that before :D strange... I wonder who makes those calls, what tracks are and aren't included? maybe it's like a movie editing technique, if people haven't heard a tidbit or a track from the score that is in the movie, it makes the scenes feel more fresh while watching them

why do you bother with the ost if you don't like TASM2? judging by your number of posts you are obviously a very new user, so I gotta ask, do you like this franchise or didn't you care for it to begin with?

Don't think it would be that, aren't most film scores released day and date/after the film's release date? Only happened like this cos it came out in the UK first, no?

I bet it's Sony. They're probably being cheap.

If Zimmer and his crew were to make the calls, they'd probably include everything on the OST. Here's hoping the complete score will leak. :)

I've put this down for my birthday list seeing as my funds are drying up. Can't wait to listen to it all the way through, Spidey scores are the best! The last 2 have been beautiful.

fantastic :up: if you don't mind actually, I have a small request

you know the cue on track "no place like home" that starts on 0:19 and goes on until 1:20, could you make a cover of the theme again, adding this cue? It's cool if you're not up to it but it'd be so cool if you did :D

I'm actually working on that particular cue, right now.

I don't think I'll be making a combo of the main theme and that one, but I'm more than willing to make a piano version of that particular part from 'No Place Like Home', though. :)

That was awesome SpideyK!

just got home from the screening, and damn every single note of music definitely fit perfectly for every scene, especially the last arc of the film!

i thought the score was both good...and extremely horrible & obnoxious/loud at times.

I think this was an impossible movie to score correctly as it had HUGE 'wtf' tonal shifts every 5min... so hans zimmer just went crazy mixing scenes with loud dubstep.....then strings (gwen and peter moments).... and then blaring triumphant hero trumpet horns for spidey swinging scenes.

As individual music it's well made and catchy.... but the unbalance and loudness calls out the music from the film ....which a score should never do.

Zimmer killed it. Fantastic score. That Spider-Man theme is just all kinds of good.
