The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Hans Zimmer Score thread - Part 2

After listening to the score a few times, I think my favourite tracks are "You Need Me", "I'm Moving to England", "Cold War", "We're Best Friends", "The Rest of My Life", "You're That Spider Guy" and "Harry Suite".

Sorry, but i didn't like the score for this movie.

Such an iconic character has yet to have an iconic theme to accompany him.

Sad.

'Cause I love it just as much as all of the other Spidey themes.

I still think Horner's original theme sounds too damn corny. I wish Zimmer would have scrapped it altogether.

I totally agree.

And Zimmer's score in this film overall was ill-fitting most of the time. A lot of questionable choices that hurt the film IMO. It's a good score with good music, but I don't think it was right for this movie.

I can see how people think that, But I disagree. I think the score compliments the film better then most Superhero films.

Spider-mans theme in ASM2 is the best Spider-Man theme imo. It just SCREAMS Spider-Man to me. Especially the bits in "Cold War" I just absolutely adore it. Im a guy who loves the MoS score aswell. I love Zimmers stuff so much.

The music is part of the reason why I'm so in love with the film, the score can really elevate a film for me. Sometimes even make or break it, and Im so happy that I love this score. If I hated it, then I wouldn't love the movie as much as I do to be perfectly honest.

its not boring, its not cliche, its different, and fresh feeling. I can't remember ONE piece of music from any MCU film, yet I will remember ASM2s music for as long as I live. I can say the same about the original Spider-man series and most of the X-Men Films too. They all have brilliant and memorable music to me.

I just realized.

'I'm Goblin' is ****ing incredible.

About Horner score,i liked his soft touch,it was something kinda magic and Becoming Spiderman,Rooftop Kiss,I Can't see you anymore and promises are the best ones for me.

Damn, yes.

Horner's score for ASM is probably one of the absolute best scores for any CBM, ever.

I didn't know how I felt about the main theme for a long time prior to the movie's release (but without a doubt loved every other piece of the score I had heard), though after seeing this movie, I literally CAN NOT stop humming it in the back of my head. It's seriously been almost an entire week straight where I've found myself humming the ASM2 theme at some point during each day

It may be simple, but I honestly think this may be the best Superhero theme I've ever heard. Especially when the film closes, and they show the giant Spidey logo with the theme playing triumphantly over it. So freakin epic to me

I completely adored every single Spidey theme in each movie before TASM2 (all of Raimi's and especially Horner's), but for me, this one came in and almost wiped my mind completely clean of anything else. After just one viewing of this movie, this theme is/has already become the Spider-man theme to me

Couldn't agree more. I absolutely adore the **** outa Horner's theme. And while I was so sad to see him go, and still wish we could've had him back, I'm pretty glad we have both these fantastic scores for each ASM movie

That was freaking cool.

For me when they said that Horner wasn't coming back i was a bit dissapointed, but Zimmer nailed, I'm Spiderman,My Enemy,Cold War,I'm Goblin,You are that Spider Guy,No Place Like Home,We're best friends and The Rest Of My Life are masterpieces.

I knew what was coming, but that tune piled on the dread.

Horner's main theme is good, and I still like it - always will. I think Zimmer's theme is actually reminiscent of that one's DNA - but simplified in structure and brightened up which allows easier use and recognition.

Exactly. You describe his theme perfectly.

Yeah, Zimmer kind of streamlined Horner's theme and made it leaner, bolder and more heroic. Horner's theme was a great "origin" theme, while Zimmer's is a great "established Spidey" theme, I think. It definitely flies in the face of anyone who ever said Zimmer couldn't write an iconic, bright superhero theme. I have to say that I do like it more than Horner's version. I still totally love Elfman's Spidey scores too though, I feel his themes really capture the quirkiness of Spidey and the dynamics of the music always really complimented the webslinging SO well. But, in terms of giving Spidey a pure, unadulterated superhero jingle (which a lot of people wanted), I think Horner hit a solid double and Zimmer then knocked it out of the park for a 2-run homer.

This was a pretty weird score overall though. I really enjoy listening to it on its own, but Zimmer can really have such a profound effect on a movie. I'm still trying to figure out my own thoughts on the movie and how the score works with the movie. There were times when I felt like the movie was just a music video for whatever Zimmer and the Magnificent Six were doing.

Zimmer's score is literally about the worst soundtrack I've ever heard in a film. It doesn't fit thematically or character wise. He basically took Zimmer's melody and turned it into Aaron Copeland's fanfare for the common man.

I won't even go into the Electro dubstep crap. The music was horrible, but the whole film was a bit of a mess, so I guess it was fitting in that regard.

I think there may be a pretty major typo in there, Tony.

I'm going to add another vote of confidence for Horner's soundtrack, it was subtle and beautiful. It was a perfect compliment especially in Peter and Gwen scenes. I loved Ben's Death too. This was my favourite Spidey score yet. Zimmer's has some wonderful moments but I felt it lacked the flow of Horner's. Nevertheless, Spidey films churn out some of the best CBM scores :woot:

For me, it's essentially like this

Horner's ASM OST: Beautiful, classic, epic, intimate, melancholic.

Zimmer's ASM2 OST: Exciting, crisp, heavy, epic, beautiful, and bassass as f**k.

I agree 100%

I'm actually glad they changed composers because I feel like Horner was perfect for the more mysterious and intimate vibe from the first movie. Zimmer was perfect for the epic and thrilling vibe of the second.
