Its been an awesome week for me to get movies on bluray...besides the release of Godzilla 2014 and the 3 Sony Godzilla films that came out (Godzilla 2000, GMK/Godzilla x Mechagodzilla, and Rebirth of Mothra), I got the 40th anniversary special edition TCM (4 discs), People Under the Stairs, and on Friday, I got the incredible 15 disc Halloween set with the limited edition lithograph..the set is gorgeous and the Producers Cut of Halloween 6 is phenomenal...for years I've had a bootleg and the quality is outstanding...I've watched some of the extras and have been in love...LOL

That's a good haul Goblin. I'm hoping to pick up that new TCM blu ray soon. How are the extras?

My wife is on a big haunted house kick so some of the ones on my list are from that genre. Here's a few.

-Death of a Ghost Hunter
-Fragile
-Lady in White
-Splinter
-Wicked Little Things
-The Marsh
-Deliver Us From Evil
-Curandero
-Dead & Buried
-Nosferatu The Vampyr(1979)
-The Roost

Wow, so Lords of Salem sure....exists. If I had to rate it, something like a 5 or 6 out of 10. It wasn't awful, actually it kept me fairly interested. But
once the guy who wrote the book on the witches was dead, and there literally was no one to really oppose things, it kind of went downhill. Thought the potential-boyfriend might pick up the slack, but he just sort of lets her go before the finale
Once the film gets to the climax, and subsequently the ending, it just happens and ends. There's no real conflict, and its just an "Evil wins" situation. Felt really hollow, and didn't really get any emotional response out of me besides confusion. I mean my god, the last ten minutes are straight out of an acid trip. I don't hate that I watched it, but I can't see myself ever just sitting down to watch it again.

Watched The Fly for the first time. Some creepy stuff toward the end there (the main transformation stuff).

Really enjoyed it.

^ That's the one. The scene where his ear comes off and a lot of stuff after that grossed me out a little. Great music, fun dialogue (and great dialogue in terms of the "Have you ever heard of insect politics" part etc).

I'm not a fan of Cronenberg, but I like The Fly. I think the worst parts are when...

...she rips off his jaw. Ugh...disgusting! And when the fly-guy vomits on the other guy's hand
I like the sequel (not by Cronenberg) too.

I saw Oculus. Since I really liked absentia, I was pretty excited about Mike Flanagan's last movie.

It was really different from what I thought it would be, and not that different from absentia. Apart from one... maybe two, shock moments, it's not trying to make you jump from your seat. It's more of a psychological horror actually. In that regard, the ending is especially powerful imo, because it really makes you doubt about what is real, and what is not.

The most frightening stuff was really about how your family can become your worst enemy. That scene with the mother trying to catch her children and hitting the door was downright chilling to me.

The actor were good, Karen Gillan and the child who played her younger were amazing. The lead actor was not bad, but his role wasn't taht interetsing, and he didn't have much to work with sadly.

The flashbacks, were brilliant, especially the way they interwined with the present stuff. The more I think about it, the more I like it. I think it really succeeded in what it was trying to do: make you doubt about everything you saw, and engage you in the characters story. It seems a lot of people didn't understand why the girl didn't try to break the mirror immediatly, but her goal was to prove it was malevolent before trying to destroy it, and it made sense in the context of the story.

Watched "The Battery", a new zombie film out on DVD. Let me say this, first off, its a very different sort of zombie film. Its very character driven, and there is honestly very few zombie scenes until the end. The basic idea is that two friends were stuck together at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, and have been traveling together ever sense. One wants to always keep moving, while the other wants normalcy, the closest he can come to what things were before the world ended.
It also feels very much the indie film that it is. It uses music to great effect, and while there isn't exactly a grand story, the characters play well off each other. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

The film did have one scene that disturbed me a bit. Not because of gore, or violence, but
One of the two guys, who is clearly having issues regarding the fact women are not easy to find in the apocalypse, finds himself stuck in the duo's car as a half naked 20-something zombie tries to claw her way in. Being she's still pretty....fresh looking, he uses the opportunity to *********e. It goes on a little long, and feels super wrong, but the end of the scene is kind of hilarious and makes up for it.

I've watched the first episode of american horror story. It's not as weird as I thought it would be, but it's an interesting start, and some creepy scenes were great.

Watched 7500 (2014) about a passenger plane flight that encounters supernatural force. Directed by the guy who did The Grudge, and starring a pretty good cast (Leslie Bibb, Amy Smart, Scout Taylor Compton, Jamie Chung etc), it's a shame that it's boring and lame.

Okay...so...right at the start we meet a stewardess who apparently is miserable with her boyfriend...a couple who are breaking up but dont want to ruin their friends vacation...a guy who cant stop ogling other women right in front of his witch of a wife...a girl who is miserable with her boyfriend, scared that she might be pregnant...a woman who is having an affair with a married man (and the man)...and they take a few seconds to mention another couple who hate each other. Really? That doesn't even mention the overly obnoxious racist dude, the rude goth chick etc. I want everyone on this plane to die and the movie just started. Why do Horror movies give us characters we can't do anything but hate, and then expect us to feel suspense or terror as they are then tortured/hunted/haunted/whatever.

For Horror fans the biggest disappointment may be that all we see is smoke and hands reaching out to grab people. Anything visually interesting that might happen occurs off camera.

An action thriller on a plane with Liam Neeson called Nonstop came out this year and is so much more exciting than this.

30th, for sure. Ends the sci-if with a bang and brings in the horror.

That's the one!

:yay:

I also read "Lost Hearts" by the same author. It has been adapted for television, but I don't know if it's available on DVD? Disturbing story.

I wish someone could make a movie based on Arthur Machen's "The Great God Pan". Ever read it? Anyone? It's from 1890, but I found it scarier than most modern horror stories. It was a huge inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft when he wrote The Dunwich Horror, and Stephen King wrote a story that's influenced by it. Here's Stephen King's own words:

"How many sleepless nights has it caused? God knows, but a few of them were mine. I think 'Pan' is as close as the horror genre comes to a great white whale."

"One of the best horror stories ever written. Maybe the best in the English language."

I read it in 2012, in a book I borrowed from the library ("The Best Ghost Stories" or something like that). I didn't know anything about it before I read it, but it sent shivers up my spine. Recommended!:woot:

Watched "Proxy", if Hitchcock made trash cenima 8/10

I enjoyed Proxy. It's weird because it was well done, but all of the supporting characters (the guy in the playground, the woman hosting the meeting etc) were all TERRIBLE to the point where I almost thought it was intentional. Plus, I think the film lost some steam when the focus shifted midway through...but it's worth a watch and still in my top 10 favorite Horror movies of the year (though many won't consider it Horror)>

Right now I'm in the mood for some good vampire movies, specifically the Dracula films starring Christopher Lee. I see there's a whole bunch of them, which is the best one(s)?

Is this movie direct-to-DVD?
