The Horror Thread - Part 5

I watched 2 movies today:

The Guest(2014): AMAZING! Its a very good thriller mixed with a bit of other genres and an 80s vibe, it has a great soundtrack. It was directed by the guy who made You're Next

In Their Sleep(2010): It was decent, the first half was very suspenseful but the rest kinda falls apart.

Have you seen It Follows? I like to imagine that It Follows is a "spiritual" sequel of sorts to The Guest, and they both remind me of T1-T2.

Yeah It Follows was great, I agree that they're similar with the great cinematography and amazing throwback music(in that sense it reminded me of Drive too). Although I find It Follows to be scarier while The Guest is more suspensful and fun.

The guy who played David would play a great Terminator

Speaking of which, I heard a report awhile back that they were considering making a sequel to It Follows.

I don't care I still love FvJ. It's fun, it's Jason and its Freddy together. Love it.

I like it well-enough. I find most of it to be decidedly, ok. Not great, not terrible. The two leads are likeable enough, if a little generic (which is hardly uncommon in slasher movies to be fair). I actually quite like the "nerd" character and was kind of sad when he died. But when the two start to fight, then it REALLY picks up and gets fun.

And that shot of the two of them facing off as the cabin is burning around them is STILL really awesome to this day. Actually that entire sequence (Lori luring Freddy out into the real world, Jason kicking over the table, Freddy realizing where his is/just how much trouble he's in, etc) was really well-done imo.

If these films were mentioned, I apologize, but most of the Roger Corman Edgar Allan Poe adaptions starring Vincent Price were very good.

They include : the House of Usher [1960]
Pit & the Pendulum [1961]
Masque of Red Death [1964]
the Tomb of Ligeia [1964]

Hell yes all the stuff with them fighting there at the end is wonderful.

I don't understand the love for It Follows. It bored me to tears.

I went to see It Follows at the movies in an empty theater and I laughed more than I jumped. The part where the old lady shows up in her gown had me laughing. The ending in the pool was just bad. No way would I watch a sequel.

What did you find funny about the old lady in her gown?

Today I watched -
Frankenstein (1992) Randy Quaid
Frankenstein (2011) Lee Godwin
Frankenstein (2004) Alec Newman

If you want to see the closest adaptation of the book, I suggest the Alec Newman one. It's been a while since I read the novel, but I would hazard a guess that this 3 hour movie is 95% true to the book.

I'm a little bored by these indie horror films that skate by with faux 80s scores.

I just watched Japanese horror Audition(1999) and I'm disappointed, it started very interesting but then it got slow and the climax wasn't worth all the buildup.

Ordered Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) from Hastings, and look forward to watching them.

I was surprised by how much of a straight forward drama much of the film is.

I had a similar experience with 2002's "May" recently.

Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter (1966) Cal Bolder

I haven't been able to keep up with my 31 Days Of Horror this year. Between my two jobs, I'm usually too tired to watch much.

Last night I managed to watch The Invisible Man (1933), as well as Episode 4 of Scream Queens and Season 11: Episode 1 of Supernatural.

Tonight I'm watching Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981).

How is it that of all the Universal monsters Creature from the Black Lagoon is the only one not to get some kind of remake?

I had someone with a foreign accent call me the other week offering me a refund for a Norton antivirus tech support I stupidly paid for years ago. They essentially want you to download a certain program, attempt to make a fake refund to your bank account, and tried to persuade me into getting Western Union or MoneyGram to pay them back the refund so they wouldn't lose their job (of course would've cleaned out my entire bank account if I would've done that). :whatever: Wish I had a way to track the caller but oh well...

Incredible the kinds of twisted legnths some people will go through to try and prey off of other people's kindness. With that being said 2 horror movies I recently saw were Creep and Compliance. Both dreadful movies about a sociopath trying to take advantage of someone. They didn't seem overly theatrical with stupid scares and got me thinking while watching them.

Compliance involves a prank caller pretending to be a cop calling a fast food joint using their authority to create a very disturbing situation. Creep involved a somewhat suppressed? individual seeking out a job offer from an ad to film for a day... What ensues is something truly disturbing and not totally unrealistic. It got me thinking what horrors we may encounter when we don't truly know someone or how good natured trusting individuals get taken advantage of. Truly something that could extend beyond the month of October on a day to day basis.

That's a very good question. Why hasn't The Creature From The Black Lagoon ever been remade?

So Tremors 5 came out direct to video a few days ago, it's also available to stream on Netflix. Haven't watched it yet but apparently it's actually good from the customer reviews on Amazon....

I watched The Final Girls and it was okay, I feel like it really needed to be Rated R to be complete and as far as meta-horror movies go its not even remotely close to Scream or Cabin in the Woods
