The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) - Part 1

It's crazy how this movie alone made over 300 million and Thor 2 is still a 195 million and being in theaters longer.

Even crazier when you realize it doesn't have 3D. It's tied with TDKR as the fastest movie to 300 million. With the holidays coming up it should have no problem surpassing the originals domestic gross.

HG franchise is not only popular with people who read the books. humans like strong smart characters. they dont care if its a boy or a girl. Katniss is a fantastic main character and the main story from the two books is very good.

good movies/stories make money.

I would never have forgiven Snyder for that. He is lucky it didn't happen. :cmad:

Uh, none of this is right outside of it not being in 3D. The all time fastest to $300mil is the Avengers. In second is TDK and in third are CF/TDKR.

Yeah, but you have to factor in all the actors in existence that have been in bombs even worse that we wouldn't have if they had that mindset to just up and quit though.

Very true.

I even think Emily Browning is still somewhat struggling and I personally think Sucker Punch hurt her career the most. Shes finally found a path with her indie work going down the indie route but I was expecting her to be another mia wasikowska type with a blooming career.

There is no shortage of attractive white british chicks in the game right now, haha. That is probably the issue, they all start to blur together unless one stands out.

And may that forever be true. :woot:

My bad, I meant to type "third fastest" but simply forgot to do so.

Yup. There are many pretty faces out there but an extra 'je ne sais quoi' does help one's career.

Even with me saying that about Emily Browning, she's still so young that her future is still bright.

Either someone can become a Leelee Sobieski and struggle. But you can also fhit your stride later in life like Claire Danes with Homefront; or even Gretchen Moll with Boardwalk Empiee, despite the hype earlier in their careers.

Acting is an unpredictable business.

I don't know an Alice Eve from an Isabel Lucas from an Emily Browning or Emila Clarke.

The funny thing about Emila Clarke is that she is very distinctive when she's on Game of Thrones. With her normal brown hair, she looks like a completely different person who is still attractive but losses that va va voom.

But she has curves. that's a plus.

I like Clarke with her brown hair actually. But I have a thing for brown hair so it is probably just me.

I do. But I actually watch a lot of film and television and pay attention to the acting. :cwink:

Don't get me wrong I love brunnettes. But this is one the rare occasions where I personally think a girl like her is more striking as a blonde.

Her wigs the last two seasons have looked better, but it still looks too fake to me. I can tell and thus it doesn't quite work for me.

Indeed. I've never read any of the HG books, and I love this series now. Katniss is a major reason for that, as Lawrence makes her an utterly compelling protagonist, despite the largely internal/stoic nature of the character. And the plot is actually very engaging (minus the love triangle. I could still do without that).

And as for Catching Fire leaving Thor:TDW in the dust at the box office, I would attribute that simply to CF being the (much) better and rewarding blockbuster.

I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the real showstoper: Jenna Marlone as Joanna.

Damn, I can't believe I forgot that too! Whoops. She was really fantastic. I've always been a fan of hers; Life as a House and Saved are two of my favorite movies. Glad to see her in another prominent role.

Question for those who have read the books... Does she survive? I hope so because I want to see more of her.

This. The only thing that made Thor 2 work (IMO) were great performances by Hemsworth and Hiddleston. The story was utter nonsense.

Thor 2..felt standard. Like a filler episode of a show.

I'm just upset how it treated the Warriors 3 and the Asian Dude. Hell, they had no idea what to do with the Asian Guy that he just pretty much abandon him 'with his people'.

My two friends watched that movie few days ago and I asked them how it was. One said, "So-so. The ending was all right." Other said, "It sucks." Their reactions surprised me but I will find my time to watch the movie but I have to read the book version before the DVD is released.
