I would love Jake Gyllenhall for Finnick, but I guess he is too old. Gosling would be awesome too, but seems too unlikely.

i gotta admit i wouldn't want either of them men as finnick. don't hate them, but i don't think it'd work at all.

i see them casting someone less known, but heavy on the heartthrob meter. finnick has to be charismatic and good looking, which is why the capital loves him so much

Still don't get what's so annoying with the handheld stuff in the beginning, do people have overly sensitive eyes?

that was extremely annoying in the begining of the film, I had to stop looking at the screen a couple times.
Movie was amazing though. 9/10

I had heard about the use of "shakey cam" but when the movie started with it as Katniss walked through the district, I thought I was going to get sick a couple of times! I thought, I'm not making it through this movie!

But, it calmed down a bit, and I think the use of it at the very beginning of the Hunger Games as the kids ran for the weapons & supplies was very effective.

Anyway, I know I'm far from this film's demographic (male entering his late 40's), but I really liked it! Growing up as a kid in the 70's, before a little film called Star Wars came out, we had Planet of the Apes, Soylent Green, The Omega Man, and Logan's Run, so I do enjoy a good dystopia!

I actually enjoyed the earlier half of the film before the Hunger Games started, setting up the world, the Reaping, the garish people of the Capitol, the training, etc. You really side with Katniss and develop a real contempt for the Capitol.

Lawrence was very good (liked her in X-Men: First Class as well) and of course Tucci was great. He played the role of host with relish, and really laid in on when he "showed compassion" during the interviews.

One thing I wished was they gave us a bit more development with the other "tributes." I mean, when Rue died, of course it's sad because she's a little girl, but we barely got to know her. However, what did hit me emotionally, was after Katniss salutes the camera, the one member of District 11 starts the riot. For some reason, I made the connection that he was Rue's father. Now, he might not have been, but making the connection and being a father myself is what hit me emotionally in that scene.

I also enjoyed Woody portrayal of the past champion, who was originally only in it for the "refreshments" and eventually comes around to actually taking an interest in Katniss & Peeta.

All in all, really enjoyed it and look forward to the sequel!

Wonder how it went? I hope he returns. If not, I hope at least they move the release date back some. I read on another site that if Ross did not return, they'd love to see Brian Singer take on Catching Fire. I could see Singer pulling it off.

Singer? fantastic idea. this year his movie will underperform very big. so he will need a hit movie that will make a proffit. HG sequel will do this. and i think his style is also very good for the sequel. he makes serious movie with darker colors. but its important that he doesnt shake the camera. he is not insulting the public who payed money to SEE what is happening no screen.he is also very good at directing actors. so a big yes for Singer.
i think there is even a realistic chance that they could talk toSinger. Jennifer's boyfriend is Nicholas Hoult who worked with Singer last year.

Lawrence won't be available, she has to film First Class 2 after the Hunger Games sequel.

I have a hard time coming up with a fitting and realistic director choice, making it even more irritating that Ross left.

I thought about Boyle, someone I personally find overrated while not a bad director and he got the style that would fit.

Maybe, but the way he did The Hunger Games makes me personally think he is great for these books. I think there is a big chance of him righting the few wrongs with The Hunger Games and make an even better sequel. I'd say that chance is bigger than the studio finding a good enough director with enough vision and integrity to continue this story. Especially in this short of a time.

An alright director can be great for certain things. And an alright director can be wrong for other certain things (Shumacher as Batman director for example).

If Ross can stay I think he should. Hunger Games was a good, enjoyable movie and a lot of its flaws can be easily fixed for the sequel. However, if they have to hire someone else maybe they should pick Matt Reeves (Let Me In); he has worked well with dark subject matter dealing with children and I think his style fits the first film
