The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

Season two was a little bit of a disappointment. They should've focused on Huey more. I'm hoping that McGruder realizes this, and focuses on Huey again while introducing Caesar from the comic strip.

It got so far from his original premise it's ridiculous.

Superman could definitely use a reboot (though I don't like the idea of darkening him up like Batman because of TDK's success. Kevin Smith said it best, Batman's about angst and Superman is about hope)

Spider-Man, on the other hand, does NOT need one. 3, while not such a hot movie, was highly successful. I am pretty tired of Raimi's formula and Tobey's wooden portrayal but I'm willing to give them a proper swan song in 4. After that though, they need to leave and give the series to new blood. But there's no need to Batman Begins it, everyone knows his origin. Start out with Spider-Man being an established hero, who's been in the game for a few years now.

I'm not trashing you. I'm stating that your Superman remarks are very pro-reboot, while your Spider-Man remarks are, at a minimum, pro-revamp.

But I'm not a fan of how the Superman reboot will probably play out, as it's just to make lightning strike twice and if it fails, the series takes a harder hit. Spider-Man is too successful (all three were box office juggernauts) and Tobey can't play him forever. At some point they will have to recast, and with different people both behind and in front of the camera, I kinda doubt they'll keep them in the same vein as Raimi's. Maybe distant sequels. Making a Spidey movie is basically like printing money. There's no way Sony is leaving the series alone.

Unless it gets screwed up REALLY badly-which I don't think it will.

So what, sometimes a reboot isn't a bad thing and considering what a mess Superman returns made, I see no option besides a reboot with that franchise.

Actually, if you read my opening post, you'll find that I agree with you on that. I'm just sick of all the pushing for reboots that happens on these boards all the time.

But that doesn't mean reboot should be considered a bad word, sure its overused some people here, but that doesn't mean its not useful.

Ok, I have done this before on this thread, but I'm going to go over franchise that should be rebooted and ones that shouldn't. For the most part I don't believe in throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Clearly there is no reason to reboot Iron Man or Batman at this point, I would also like see a direct sequel to the last Hulk movie.

The last couple of X-Men movies made a mess of things, but you can get around that with prequels and spin offs, the X-Men universe is so huge that there millions of ways to get movies out of that franchise and I like the framework Byran Singer built.

The last Spider-Man film made a mess of things too, but nothing that can't be cleared up by Raimi if he has his A-game on the sequel, though I wouldn't mind some recasting.

They shouldn't reboot Punisher because they had 3 chances to make a good Punisher film and blew every one of them.

Daredevil should get a slight revamp, the next film should not contradict the previous one, but not reference it either and most of the cast should be replaced. Also the Elektra movie should be completely ignored.

Superman Returns made such a mess of things, that a reboot is the only to go. Likewise the Fantastic Four franchise was crap from day one getting rid of the epic exploration nature of the Fantastic Four and instead trying to be hip, cool, urban and "realistic". Also turning Dr. Doom from an epic Evil Overlord and Magnificent Bastard into some lame, "cool", "hip", "urban" Corporate Smug Snake who only wanted to get into Sue Storm's pants is not something I can forgive. Those movies completely missed the point of the Fantastic Four.

With the Superman and Fantastic Four movies I would throw the baby out with the bath water, because the baby is the Anti christ.

See, I would argue that they've screwed up Spidey enough to warrant a revamp, though I may be in the minority in that.

Also, just to clairify, I've been in that camp since Spider-man 2. I think SM2 is a very good movie, just not the best spider-man movie.

Unfortunately, they probably won't revamp Spidey for 15 years at the least, so I guess I'll just have to be content with Spectacular Spidey (...if they approve season 3:csad:)

I agree with you on one thing; it's not a bad word. But any concept can become a bad one if it's overused. And if some of the fans on these boards have their way, that's exactly what would happen.

Yeah, but ultimately everyone's opinion on this board is irrelevant, they can't affect the movies themselves. These boards are more for fun then anything else.

This thread has become too long and confusing. It's time someone "simplifies" this thread by creating a new thread that covers the same topic. Perhaps with some exciting new spin?

;)

i think you missed the joke...he was talking about revamping the thread...a reboot sort of

I'd recast Chris Wallace with Will Smith

Too tall, too light, ears are too big. Plus there's the irony of him & my son sharing a b-day.

Just re-cast him as a white guy. The audience will be able to relate more.

I'm really kind of on the fence where Supes is concerned. So many things were wrong & I really don't want them acknowledged in a future film:
The kid
The stalking
Richard
THe kryptonite island
The 5-year sabbatical to look for a planet THAT BLEW UP
The 40's atmosphere
The suit
And they would have to really ramp up the action. At the same time, I don't want to see Krypton explode again. I think something like Doomsday would be the shot in the arm that the franchise needs.

I agree there was a lot wrong with Superman Returns. They should deffinately do the Superman vs Doomsday movie. I also think the movie should be a JLA movie, not just a Superman movie. That's what I didn't like about the animated movie, it was all Superman & Doomsday. Plus they went through the death and return of Superman too quickly. As long as they keep the pacing and story as close to the comics as possible it would be good.
