The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

I love reboots. I think we need more.

What's your opinion on Spidey Chris? Because that franchise, from my fan perspective, is one of the few that I actually want rebooted, simply because of major plot and character elements Raimi has left out that I believe are central to the mythos.

However, from a financial standpoint, Spidey is going strong, which means we probably wont get a reboot for a fairly long time.

I see no need to reboot Spidey. At all. Perhaps 10 years down the line but right now I have no problem with what Raimi & Co. have done thus far. I maintain my position that fans brought a lot of their displeasure with the 3rd installment on themselves, & I still found it highly enjoyable.

See, I was one of the ones that thought SM3 wasn't that bad. It wasn't nearly as bad as some here made it to be. Calling it one of the worst superhero movies ever made me roll my eyes:whatever: It was a classic case of how hype can come and bite you in the ass.

However, I think the reason I enjoyed it more was because I had resigned myself to the fact that Raimi wasn't going to do Spidey justice.

Now, don't get me wrong. Raimi makes very good movies. SM1 and SM2 are very good movies, (SM2 being a very, very good movie). But I don't think they're very good Spider-man movies. Espeically SM2.

Raimi misses out on key elements of the characters. He's completely bastardized Mary Jane, and his Spider-man has no personality. Depriving Spider-man of his personality is as big an insult to the character as it is to have Batman acting bubbly and warm in costume.

I've been dissappointed with the SM movies since SM2, and to be completely honest, I think the series does need a reboot, because the character is infinitely more interesting than Raimi has shown us, especially when you include the supporting cast. (Another thing Raimi has barely touched in his movies).

I know you're no fan of Raimi's Spidey films, so this is where we just have to agree to disagree.

:awesome::awesome::awesome:

I will forever wonder, though, what we would've gotten for the third installment had Raimi been left to his own devices & not forced to include Venom.

Damn it all!!!!!!!!!!!! I know many of you are jumping for joy, but I really hoped Sony wouldn't jump on the bandwagon.

Superman STILL doesnt need a reboot.

Everyone knows the story. Move foward. Give people a great "Superman story" with a good villian and people will see it.

Who wouldnt pay to see Supeman and Brainiac or Metallo.

We've had how many movies of Superman vs Luthor?

Enough already.

Wrong. If any franchise right now needs a reboot, it's Superman. Superman 3, 4, Returns all need to go, and the origins from Superman 1 are way out of date for modern audiences. I think it's really dumb that Sam Raimi did a great Spider-Man trilogy and Sony still decided to hit the reboot button, but then Superman Returns takes a crap on Supes' legacy and we end up waiting 4 years for a reboot and still there's no announcements. Lameness.

Superman does need a reboot to get rid of that worthless kid and dead beat dad superman. Not mention how are Superman and Lois supposed to get together with Richard White being Lois finance and a nice guy in his own right?

Plus villains like Metallo and Parasite cannot carry a whole movie, so you need corporate Lex Luthor there as well.

Much as I don't want to advocate rebooting, (ESPECIALLY NOW) I was thoroughly dissatisfied with "Superman Returns" & do not see how they can continue in that direction.

I somewhat agree with Conan. I don't want to see Superman go against Lex Luthor again either. I don't like Superman, but I would pay to see him take on Brainiac or Metallo in an action packed movie. I think what we differ in is wanting a reboot. I want a reboot, but no origin story.

Superman vs. Lex Luthor could work, if Lex was the corporate tycoon that we've come to know over the last 20+ years, & not the buffoonish caricature of super-villainy that was resurrected in Singer's film.

As bad as it is that they're doing the retcon/reboot tango on Spidey-which I consider to be unnecessary, premature & just plain WRONG, what's worse is the flood of posts & signatures I expect to see from fans who are happy about it. Some never liked Raimi's take from the get-go. Others were perfectly happy until the 3rd. Whatever their reasons, I think this is a bad idea and will ultimately hurt the genre more than help it. Plus, no matter what, EVERYBODY'S not gonna get what they want. Some aspect of the story will be raised above another, & the fans who care more about that element will be disappointed. Liberties will be taken-many purely for the sake of distancing the movies from Raimi's trilogy-and will probably make an overall product that's even further removed from the comics than an armored Green Goblin or organic webbing. Casting choices will be made that will be hotly debated for years to come. I shudder to think what the new costume will look like. I expect mechanical web-shooters, which I'm fine with as long as they're UNDERNEATH the gloves. And then there's talk of them going darker, which I think is an EXTREMELY bad move.
I just have a bad feeling about the reboot.

Nor do I want to sit through his origin again.

3 years to delevop a new film, another 3 for a sequel,etc

Ill be freaking 50 by the time the story gets to a point Im interested in.

The thing about the Spider-man reboot is that it really doesn't make sense however you slice it. One bad(in some people's eyes) move shouldn't require a reboot when it was the most popular of a series that is only 8 years old. You had the same director and cast coming back, and the movie was certain to put up big numbers again. Even if it failed, it probably still would have brought in over $200 million domestically, and $600 million worldwide. Now you have to change a costume that was nearly perfect, and you have to give up potential storylines. What's worse is that this new Spidey series will probably only last 2 movies. If Sony is so willing to give up on one of the highest grossing movie series so quickly, they'll probably be willing to do the same when the new franchise does lesser number than the old.

I just have a bad feeling about the reboot.

Considering how bad the Fantastic four movies were, I wouldn't mind seeing them rebooted or perhaps they just shouldn't make a FF film. The lame sleazy corporate Dr. Doom or cloud Galactus is enough reason to justify

But the thing is the studios have seen the money made by the Batman reboot and think they can make the same money the same ways.

The fact is Raimi and Sony were having a creative dispute, so Sony thought, screw it, we don't need to to deal him, we can just reboot it if we feel like it.

The fact is the studios that control the properties can reboot them for any reason they want, even something as simple as not getting along with the director and there isn't much you can do about it.

superman needs a reboot badly. the cast is terrible and they've written themselves into a corner with that kid.

The main issue with reboots is that it's basically saying adaptations don't matter anymore, the people who worked on the film's visions don't matter. We can just as easily redo it later on.

Q! F! T!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the biggest problem. Hell, why bother even trying to make a good movie in the first place? If people don't like it, just scrap it and move on.

We're too quick to want to redo stuff these days, that's the problem. Superman '78 had flaws, but it was the definitive live action version that Donner created, and no one dared touch it until at least like three decades later.
