We don't need a reboot for Iron Man because a movie doesn't do well, but because the actors are too old to perform the same roles. That's eventually going to happen, and Iron Man has tons of stories and characters that can be adapted for screen.

Why does a new actor mean we need a reboot? Can't you just tell a new story? A reboot involves retelliing or going to a previous point in the character's history.

James Bond has had several actors but only one reboot.

Err... 1 official one. The Hulk was a sorta pseudo reboot. So how can you be sick of them?

Listen, well read... these new Spidey films will not delete Raimi's films from existence. You can still have them and watch them.

These new films are just a fresh start for a new vision.

And the FACT is, Raimi was not perfect. And anyone who thinks he was needs a ****ing slap. No director is perfect, even Hitchcock or Coppola.

All this talk of "Well I hope the reboot turns out crap! HAR HAR HAR!" is ****ing PATHETIC!

You call yourselves Spider-Man fans? Or Raimi fans? No true Spidey fan would want a bad movie made about him. And you guys are hoping for it? Pffft.

See, I liked Spider-Man 1 and 2. 3? Not so much. It wasn't god awful. But if you honestly don't think it wasn't a step down from the first 2 you need your head examined. Now, SM4 was shaping up to be another SM3 or even worse, for a multitude of reasons.

Now what do you want as a Spidey fan? Another mediocre effort? Or the POSSIBILITY of another Spidey film reaching the heights of SM1 and SM2?

Me as a Spidey fan? I am gonna keep my copies of Raimi's first two Spidey movies and enjoy them. But I am also going to keep an open mind and see what happens with these new movies. I will certainly not hope that movies about one of my favourite fictional characters turn out crap because of some illogical hate of the word "reboot" like some of you so called "fans" are hoping for. I honestly can't believe that. Instead of keeping an open mind you immediately don't like it and actively HOPE they turn out crap.

Agreed. Although about people being tired of reboots, I think they mean that now they the ones that have been successes, whenever whiney fanboys compain, they demand reboot just like that, thinking all the problems will just go away and they get their wish that they didn't get before.

I'm excited about the new possiblities and in no way do I want it to fail. I want a good SM film. A fresh start will be interesting. I'd rather have this than the potential crap that we could have had for SM4 had Raimi stayed.

Raimi's films won't ever go away. They'll still be here.

I was heartbroken too at fist but let's be honest, had Raimi compromised with the studio and made SM4 (if those script reports are correct) it would have been crap. I just want a good SM film.

Hopefully Sony will let whoever do their own thing.

But the thing I odn't understand is how Sony is telling a man who brought them three highly successful SM films what to do. Especially the first two.

One thing I dont understand about this Spiderman thing is how some people are saying they hope the movie fails. Why would they want a character they like to be in a movie that fails

didn't buy SM3? I was tempted to sell it but saw it recently and was shocked how many good scenes are in it. okay, its not great but I'm not getting rid of it

I would much rather have that. My post was merely pointing out the types of reboots I would support, but this route is the best choice. I wish they would just hire new actors and continue the storyline James Bond style.

I don't want the useless too soon Spider-Man reboot to fail, I just think that it's going to fail because it is too soon for a reboot and Sony will be the ones writing and directing the movie. Sony apperently co-wrote and directed Spider-Man 3 and that was one of the worst movies of the last 10 years.

Again I hope the haters of Raimi's Spider-Man are prepared for a Sony directed Spider-Man movie. Studio movies always turn out good!

It seems so. He's a smaller director, so I hope because of that, he's not easily swayed by the studio. The director will be a good indicator in the direction they're taking it. If they get Webb, they're off to a great start.

I mean did you see his reaction when he was asked if he has talked to Sony? No doubt the man has been talked to.

He's a smalltime director so that means he's easier to push around. Look at what happened with Wolverine-- indie director with major street cred, and Fox walked all over him.

A script that the studio absolutely adored, and the director had no influence over whatsoever. The same holds true with the Spider-Man reboot, and the source of most of Spider-Man 3's problems was because of the things Sony demanded be put in. Forgive me if I'm not yet ready to give Sony the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their taste in screenplays.

That's how I always felt with the Batman films when they announced a reboot with BB. Even if it sucked I'd still have Burton's two films at home. Now I have his two and Nolan's two. t:

I look at Spider-Man 3 and what 4 would have been as the BF and Batman & Robin of the series.

I love Raimi's first two Spidey films but I'm really looking forward to see what they do with this new one.

the emo/dancing is a direct result of the venom inclusion, sure sam could have treated the subject matter differently but no venom no dancing.

the uncle ben reton imho again is another direct result of the venom inclusion. with the dark suit sam needed a reason for peter to be angry with the sandman, with the the vulture instead of the venom almost certainly this reton wouldn't have happened as the driving force for sandman and peter's emnity would have been the vulture.

the original script had to be HACKED to peices for a villian I can't ****ing stand (I hate the venom character with a passion)

the movie would have flowed better because two characters would essentially be treaded as one - sandman and vulture
there also wouldn't have been a subplot of dark/dorky peter

SM3 rubbishness is a direct result of arid and sony's interference.
the IDIOCY makes me seeth with anger

venom:

spidey gets the costume in secret wars
spidey brings the costume back to earth
suit slowly starts to take spidey over,
peter's personality changes
spidey gets rid of the suit
hatred of EDJ is growing for peter
suit bonds with EBJ

THAT is the time line of venom. so sony and arid thought it was a good idea to shoehorn the above subtext into a movie that ALREADY had GG2, sandman and vulture. everyone has their own opinion but as far as I'm concerned raimi gets a pass. sure he could have attempted to do better with the tools he was given but he had ALREADY outlined their movie and sony were hellbent on including that one note piece of **** bad guy. and for what? so they could sell more toys? that's like somone building your house and you telling them to change the foundations to add a superfluous feature, sure they can do it but it isn't going to be as good as the original foundations.

why the **** they couldn't have left the man alone to finish the trilogy and then get rid of him and use movies 4 and 5 to tell the story of venom with new actors I will ****ing never know. IDIOTS!!

also if SM3 were better I'm 100% certain it would have broken the billion mark purely from the momentum of 1 and 2 and wom from 3

Another thing that irks me is that it's not even limited to comic book franchises anymore. Little by little this "Out with the old, in with the new" mentality is infecting all movie genres. They're rebooting all the horror franchises, Star Trek, Bond-what's next? Are we gonna get a new series of Die Hard & Lethal Weapon movies? A new Police Academy series? Beverly Hills Cop? Where does it end?
