The inTOXICATED DC Boards Lounge - Part 2

Alright, alright, I'm in the middle of episode 4, and this ****in show is just awesome.

I just finished the 4th episode myself. Definitely showcases Kingpin's ruthlessness.

On a side note: There should be an adamant effort on the part of WB/DC to utilize the Netflix format in the future. If not Netflix, then definitely HBO.

I've only seen the first three episodes of Daredevil so far. The show is great. The fight scenes put the ones on Arrow and Agent's Of Shield to shame.

freakin totally agree!! the fight scenes holleeeeeee ^&*( they are phenomenal. i just finished episode 2 my girl and her freaking family was up talking i hadda wait for them to leaveto wtach it i wanted to watch more.
this show is outstanding and i love" the incident"references! that was hella cool! got the real world DD thing down

I'm halfway through the season now, and yeah, this is really fantastic. I think this is already up there as one of the best superhero TV series so far.

Yeah, I think I'll be rewatching it, too. It's really good. I've watched 7 so far, and I think I'll try and watch 1-2 tonight in bed, but we'll see, I may watch more. I told myself I was only going to watch 1-2 last night, and ended up watching 6.

I finished it an hour ago, it's pretty damn solid.

Watching episode 6 right now, interesting, and depressing at the same time.

Show's just awesome.
F^&*YEAH IT IS !! up until now i would have said the Flash but WHOA BABY! i am up to ep8 but i gotta say "condemned" with the Kingpin talking to DD over the radio is FREAKIN the best!!!
this is how you do a DD show!! i dont think a Movie could have given "the Devil his due" like this have! this show is out the box!!

Yeah, I love The Flash, but I really think Daredevil tops it. Probably not an entirely fair comparison, since Daredevil is more akin to a cable show and The Flash is network, but still. Both are good, though. Good time to be a TV fan and a superhero fan right now.

I've never wanted a workday to end so badly. Just wanna sprint home and finish it. I'm on ep 10.

I just finished episode 10, and it was great, but it did make me see one small flaw: Foggy. I mean, for the most part, he's a good actor, great comedic sidekick-esque character, but whenever he gets in an emotional scene, you can really see the actor has pretty limited range. But saying that, I hesitate to call that a "bad" thing really, just a thing not quite as good as the rest.

The suit also looks like ****, too. I can see why they didn't want to show it off. Maybe it'll look better in motion and all since I've only seen it when they randomly updated the icon to have Matt in costume, and the still on the the top display, but seems pretty horrible.

I think DDs suit, much like Barry's, looks better in motion.

I really really like that white painting Kingpin bought. I don't have that messed up attachment to it like he does, but I find it calming.

Yeah, you're probably right. I should've reserved judgement until I actually see it in motion, but having it update to that suddenly was a shock.

It does look better in motion, but I can see improvements later incorporated into the show.

Well how much more DD do we have left? I thought DD, Jess, Cage, and Danny got a season of 13 episodes and then a short Defenders thing.

From what I've read they're still open to doing stuff after The Defenders, depending on how successful this all turns out. I assume that it'll be like Avengers, where each character will have their own individual film (season, in this case), and The Defenders will happen every 2-3 years as a sort of event built on stuff done in those seasons.

If they all end up being successful, anyway. I would think Daredevil is a lock for a second season, at least. Seems to be pretty hot from what I can tell, though I guess it's impossible to tell for sure what the "ratings(?)" are for it.

I like the suit. Plus it's incomplete so plenty of time to add some finishing touches by the time he shows up again.

Just binged watched the first 6 episodes. It's been ok so far.

I think a lot of the more outrageous reactions have to do with

1) People not thinking the Marvel live action universe had room for this type of grit.

2) A lot of the people being unfamiliar with Daredevil and his world to the point that they had no idea his stories and characterizations could resonate on this level due to their own ignorant underestimation of the IP.

With 1 not making any real sense since it's something Marvel has seamlessly done both in comics and even with their movies since the movies tend to vary in tone and genre.

I like The Flash much better though and this is coming from someone who considers Daredevil his favorite Marvel and has done so since the late 80's. The small scale of this show kind of hurts it with the repeated sets and it's also kinda pretentious in the sense that there is a lot of examples of illogical behavior and it thinks it's really saying something with the dialogue but not really saying much at all.

However that's consistent with the source material particularly if you consider Brian Michael Bendis and David Mack's generally overrated inconsistent run that seems to have been the introductory point for DD for many on the net. Me myself? I grew up on Ann Nocenti's run while it was still ongoing and then got really acquainted with Miller's 80's stuff through reprints as a teen in the late 90's.

I would like to see the series evolve a bit and harken back to the silver and early bronze age DD stuff though tonally and not just drown in the grimdark influence of the stuff of people like Miller and Nocenti. Similar to what Karl Kesel and Joe Kelly did back in the 90's and what Mark Waid has been doing with his current run. That could be really fun.

When it comes to live action DD though it's good to finally have something wash off the horrible after taste of Mark Steven Johnson's awful DD movie and it's equally terrible but oddly often recommended Director's Cut.

Frankly I'm just glad that the character has been redeemed in the eyes of the general public now. It was feeling like I used to feel as a Batman fan after Batman & Robin and before the reboot. Like I was the only DD fan in the room; at least the only one not afraid to admit that I was a fan anyway.

Now I got another piece of media to compliment the excellence of Mark Waid's Daredevil comic from the last 4 years.

I don't watch Marvel Studios movies anymore. Haven't since The Avengers greatly disappointed me and I don't plan on ever seeing another again with 3 exceptions (Doctor Strange, Inhumans and another Hulk solo). This format though? this I could definitely be down with provided they use it as a format to showcase characters I actually like.

So I won't be seeing Luke Cage or his token white wife's show. But Iron Fist will have my attention. I just hope they use this format to finally do some justice to Ghost Rider and The Punisher for once. Also please give us a Morbius The Living Vampire series. Please!

The Director's Cut of DD movie is easily better than the theatrical cut, for one, some of the scenes that make the theatrical cut dumber are not included, like the sex scene and the street walk with Elektra before the rain scene. And the sequencing of scenes is better edited and paced.

I will watch the Luke Cage series, cause he's one of two fun halves in the Heroes for Hire duo of him and Iron Fist.

Just because it's better than liquid crap doesn't it exempt it from being crap itself.

To me the greatest sin of that movie is that it really fails to capture the tone and spirit of the comics. Yeah they try their best to cram a lot of superficial details from Miller's epic but without any of the heart and pathos that made it compelling on the page.

It feels awfully disjointed and unfocused like it has no idea where it wants to go but still wants to be a jack of all trades while mastering none. Easily one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. The execution is just awful in either version. Thank God the show didn't fall into any of those traps despite it's own flaws.

I'll only put up with his eventual appearances in the Iron First show.

As a person of color the character has just always been very off putting to me. Even as a kid I found him very awkward and felt it was way too obvious that privileged white people were trying to write a brother from the hood. Way too many stereotypes and disingenuous attempts at not letting his “blackness” define him but in the end black stereotypes end up accomplishing that task anyway. Dude was the quintessential "angry black man" of the industry for years.

This was made even worse when they tried to re-establish the character and bring him back to prominence in the 2000’s by working the most offensive racial stereotype of them all into his mythos. Having a white woman come in and be the only one that could “tame the beast” in the black man.

When you compare him to characters like The Falcon, Black Lightning, Mr. Terrific II, Black Panther and Deathlok who have avoided the same pitfalls even though they were also written by other priviliged white men it’s even more offensive.

I do realize that it comes from ignorance due to these guys probably never really spending too much time with actual POC. I would never dare say it’s racism cause a lot of those writers do have their heart in the write places intentionally. However it's still pretty jarring. Their inexperience with people of color is so vast that it sticks out like a sore thumb when you come across that type of writing that you can't help but notice.

This is why I gravitated so much towards Milestone Comics back in the day. That stuff felt very organic partially because it came from the collaborations of African Americans, Hispanics and Asian Americans. People who realize that the characters are people first and foremost and not a general representation of their race and creed or some strangers to the party like many non-POC writers tend to approach them ass.

**** Luke Cage and his sweet christmases. Since they are bringing Misty Knight and Iron Fist into this universe I would have to put up with his stupid presence every now and then. A decent tradeoff considering I get exposed to superior characters at the same time. Similar to the comic books.

Just saying it's not equally bad, didn't say it's good.

Felt like they were taking more from the Lee era than they took from Miller's.
And Lee's take on the character is not so good.

I'll only put up with his eventual appearances in the Iron First show.

In adaptions so far they didn't make him the angry walking trope -I think- so there may be hope for his show.
