Iron Man 3 The IRON MAN 3 News & Speculation Thread - - - - - Part 14

Why did they even bother releasing it before most countries over seas.

This was a problem with The Avengers too.

A lot of movies do the staggered release schedule, starting overseas first, nowadays. They say it's somehow supposed to be an end-around against piracy.

Though we may never know, I personally don't think a version unlike Ben's Mandarin or even a Chinese Mandarin is automatically unworkable on film. I mean comics may not be the most high brow of media, but I doubt Marvel would stick with the character and keep bringing him back if he was completely unworkable as a concept.

They keep bringing Mandarin back in the comics because some EICs in the Bullpen hold to that tired old adage that a superhero is only as good as his villain. So they try to make Mandarin the archnemesis, and every iteration fails to win over fans, and they ditch him for another few years before giving it the old college try again.

They'd be far better off to try to make a completely new nemesis for Tony altogether. Maybe Technovore can gain enough fans to fill that role.

Thanks.

I'm by no means an Iron Man expert, but I have my doubts that's the case. Mandarin still has a lot of fans. That can't be waved away.

Commerce. Hitting the holiday sweet spot at the last weekend in April in a lot of Europe, as well as beating competition of other release dates over there. Meanwhile the first weekend of May has always been considered the kickoff to the summer movie season in America, so that's the other end of it.

I think another minor reason is that it curbs overseas piracy.

Also, is it true that the film is actually framed around [BLACKOUT]Tony telling Bruce the story[/BLACKOUT]?

Yes. In the after credits scene it is revealed that the opening and closing narrations were Tony telling the story to Bruce Banner. It's actually quite a funny bit.

Thanks.

Where are they, though? I've been a Marvel fan and collector since 1974, and I have yet to see a Mandarin cosplay at any of the cons; I have yet to hear any of my comic-shop buddies (from any decade) talk about Mandarin at all; I have yet to see Mandarin make any sort of impact on the Marvel Comics universe at all. Cartoons and toymakers have always been baffled about how to present him, and they usually create their own incarnations of him --- usually some rendition that's not likely to offend Asian customers. He's portrayed as everything from a sorcerer, to an ancient ghost, to a green-skinned alien, to a businessman, to a teenage descendant of Genghis Khan in magic armor. IM3 isn't doing anything new by making a version of Mandarin that is nothing like the comic books. In fact, the subject is explored in a miniseries a few years ago in which Mandarin forces a filmmaker to create a biopic about him, and the story is all smoke and mirrors and total bull****. I'll just say there's a very good chance that Shane Black happened to read that miniseries.

Good, that sounds great. It was what I was thinking when I heard about how the film opens.

So did they elaborate on
The Ten Rings organization at all? Was it just another part of the set-up? We're to assume Killian had all this in the works going all the way back to the first movie?

Read this -

It's very simple....half the world has not seen Iron Man 3...if you do not put spoilers about important things in the movie in spoiler tags...you will be infracted and put on probation. Do not ruin the movie for others.

What's left to speculate or news to read though? The movie has been released in some parts of the world and discussion about it is naturally going to happen amongst the people that have watched it.

Why would anyone knowingly come into this thread with said knowledge? It's now moved from idle speculation to actual spoilery fact. Why else do people want to read this thread still? Talk about an accident waiting to happen.

I think the big massive red text should be something like: ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Having said that, I'm always careful to use spoiler tags, but I did laugh when I saw this post which brings me to this response.

Not at all, actually.

Ten Rings are never mentioned verbally, but their logo is seen in quick snippets in all of Mandarin's recordings.

Hey, where'd the Mandarin thread go?

Why? Conversation was civil.

Can someone who has seen the movie please explain if:
[BLACKOUT]If they go into why tony is able to take out the arc reactor medically?[/BLACKOUT]

They don't really go into detail. The scene is simply the doctors taking shrapnel from inside Tony and that's it. But I assume some stitching was done around the chest.

Can somebody tell me what happened to Iron Patriot when:
That extremis woman touched his hand, he just froze for no reason? He couldn't move, how did that happen and then when Kilian was heating the armour around the belly, Rhodey just ejected himself out of it...Why couldn't they get Rhodey out before??

Yeah I wondered when he
threw the reactor into the water if he now has a massive gaping hole in his chest lol

Didn't she knock him down to the ground after heating his hand though? I think the armour ejected Rhodey because he kept saying "Don't eject, Don't eject" or something like that before it ejected him and he laid some short smackdown

I'm pretty sure the suit couldn't take the heat so it auto-opened for Killian.

People read this thread because it's the "main" IM3 thread. The word "Speculation" is still in the title, and a lot of us come here to still speculate on how things will tie in to Avengers and the rest of Phase II and the other movies.

Be patient. By next weekend, the bulk of us here in America will have had a shot at it, and the spoiler tags will be off (more or less).
