The James Franco/ Harry Osborn Thread

True. And that left Peter to take care of Venom, who's a handful all on his own. A part of me would have loved to see that kind of teamup again in latter films, but eh, Harry's death was a honorable one so I'm not complaining.

I didnt want him to die, but it was a genuily fitting end to his arc, and he went out as a true hero, sacrificing himself for Peter, he must have known he was going to die when jumping in between Peter and Venom, yet he still did it, very heroic.

Agreed. Though, I think being able to get along off-stage is a big part of it too. Raimi's casting for Spider-Man was alot about the chemistry and I think that really translated well onscreen.

Well yeah, you can see by the extra's on all 3 movies (and mostly in the Blooper Reel on 3) how well they all got on with each other, and it definately translated into their performances, thankfully.

Agreed, seeing Harry go from good to being depressed and unhappy because of his fathers death and to make it worse, Harry found out Peter was Spider-Man. Then having Harry firgive Peter just brought a very happy smile to my face. They have been through good and bad times, but in the end stay friends.

Exactly, and that is what true friendship is all about, going through various trials and tribulations and still being friends at the end of it. Hearing Harry say "Non of that matters Peter, you're my friend" is just so emotional on various levels, and considering its the last thing Harry says, its just perfect.

Plus, i lost a friend 3 years ago, and Tobey's reaction to Harry's death is perfect, it almost gets me everytime.

Did anyone see on the dvd art section that there is some designs of what his costume could of looked like, they have one where it looks like a motorcycle helmet that covers his whole head.

Yeah, I pretty much get tears in my eyes when I see that scene.

By the way, sorry about your friend. :csad:

Anything remotley goblin-esque?

franco was the only good thing about this movie.

Well, I wouldn't say that he was the ONLY good thing about this movie. I'm a fan of Spider-Man 3, but yes, I think that Franco is probably the best part of the movie. I absolutely loved him.

At first, I thought that New Goblin/Green Goblin 2 would not have been able to carry and entire movie by himself. After seeing Spider-Man 3, my opinion changed. Spider-Man 3 would have been a great movie with just Harry and black-suited Spidey.

Damn straight. I know Sony would have never gone for doing another standalone Goblin, but it could have been done magnificently.

Agreed. Harry and Peter have enough of a history that it could have made for a very interesting movie between just the two of them. The characters have so much material that it would have worked out well.

But, complaints and problems aside, I still do like SM3.

I know it does me too. And they pulled it off without it sounding corny or, you know, overdoing it on the dramatics... which they could have done. It just came across naturally, which I approve of greatly.

And sorry to hear about your friend. :(

Nope,it's like they were going for a biker Goblin, and a night vision Splinter Cell Goblin. No wonder why they chose the New Goblin costume out of those ones.

Thankyou also, i appreciate it from both of you very much.

But yeah, the scene is perfect, and not corny in any way, it was very well done.

Yeah, the New Goblin costume is awesome and it works better than how those other designs would have worked.

James Franco = Best Actor For All Three Movies.

He did a great job as Harry Osborn and a great job as the New Goblin, even him dying was a great job due to his acting skills.

Agreed, he had some of the best scene's in Spidey 3 and possibly the best performance, some of his scene's were very emotional.

Cme on now, lets not be ignorant towards the movies'other strengths.

Oh the movie had other strength's (BTW i realise your comment wasnt directed at me :yay: ), but, for me, above anything else, it is Tobey's and James's performances that keep me coming back for repeat viewings.

Im watching the Filmmakers commentary now, and that one scene after the MJ/Harry kiss, where Harry see's his father again.

The emotion...lack of emotion..and pure evil you see on Harry's face, as his Norman is talking, is amazing. Perfectly done by Franco, who really shined in Spidey 3. I think his take on Harry is one of the best things about this entire trilogy.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE PART OF THE MOVIE...

The WHOLE part after MJ leaves Harry's house. The scene after that with Willem and Franco. Just absolutely LOVED that whole scene. Repeating his line from the first movie and leading Harry toward the TRUE goblin path.

FAVORITE PART OF THE TRILOGY, actually.

Small part but effective...

-2:48 in...and the talk with his father...

Not just that either.

The whole Harry in MJ's appartment, taking her by the neck and slamming her against the wall and using her as a pawn to get to Peter, destroying him emotionally and finally culminating with the Peter/Harry fist fight.

Amazing stuff.

Definitely, and that fight, though not as stylized as the train fight and other fights, is ONE of my all time favorite fights in the series just because these characters have soo much history together and watching them brawl it out man to man was brutal...

Yeah, cause, even though both have underlining special powers, its not Spider-Man vs. New Goblin, its Peter Parker vs. Harry Osborn, school long friends, now bitter rivals.

Which is great cause, for the entire fight, no webbing is used, Peter isn't stickin to walls, its just fist for fist, breaking ***** action. I loved it.

It still goes unnoticed, how important a role Harry played in Spidey 3, and how great Franco did with it.

Not to mention the scene in the diner were Franco was superb, the "So good!" and wink to Peter were fantastic, as was his sarcastic "Bravo" to MJ after he used her.

I agree the fight in the mansion was great, as it was a lot more intimate and personal than the other fights in the movie. You didnt want anyone to win that fight in fear of what happened to the loser, and i was truly shocked at the conclusion of the fight.

Agreed, Harry is such an addicting character to watch and James Franco really adds to that addictviness. I loved the fights between Peter and Harry. They have nothing to do with killing innocent people, etc. It's a conflict between two friends, which I find great.

I kinda wish they would of made Harry kept his memory after the Harry/Peter fight, and instead Harry becomes paralized from the neck down, that way he could still have the anger towards Peter, but he wouldn't be a threat to spidey for the rest of the movie, and maybe the next one as well.

Then in SM5 you could have Harry walk again, and becomes strong enough to continue his fight with spidey again, then in the end he decides to help Peter fight the new villain.

Exactly, in the mansion fight, they just want to kill one another, and its torture watching it, as we have seen in all 3 movies how good their friendship is, thats why its so great at the end when Harry turns good again, its like relief and elation at the same time.

That would have been interesting, but i liked very much Harry's arc in Spiderman 3, i think its possibly the one thing the movie got perfect.
